Do these exist?

I am looking to get a Laptop drive and use it externally with a 2.5 inch enclouser, however I want firewire 800 compatability. FW800 is not really required, but I just want it for the speed.

Thanks :)

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that 2.5" drives are a lot slower than 3.5" drives even at the same RPM, and therefore would not saturate a FW400 bus so having the additional speed of FW800 would not be seen.

No 2.5" drive could keep up with FW 800. You're better off with simply FW400.

Nevertheless, FW800 drive enclosures for 2.5" drives are available, as seen on the OWC site: See FireWire 2.5" Drive Enclosure Kits section (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/add-ons-and-hubs/enclosure-kits)

Not true. The Seagate Momentus 7200rpm drive (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Seagate/ST910021A/) is capable of a maximum external transfer rate of 100MB/s, faster than FW800's 80MB/s.
