Link: Apple re-edits iPhone commercials due to controversy: Removes “mysterious 12th icon” (http://www.macbytes.com/link.php?sid=20070607130532)
Description:: Faithful Macenstein readers Rick and Cyril have noticed that anyone who downloads the latest version of the “How To” commercial will not see that infamous scene at 00:02:76. It has been replaced.

Where Sunday night, you could clearly see a shot where there were 12 icons on the iPhone instead of the customary 11, the latest edit shows a closer, zoomed in version, and only the smallest hint of the “Calculator” and “Notes” icons visible. It also appears that the “Calculator” and “Notes” icons are back in their original placement, where in Sunday’s version, they had been pushed over 1 place, along with the “Clock” and “Settings” icons.

Seems like they went to a hell of a lot of effort over such a small issue

They must read the rumor blogs quite closely.

You know this thing is going to be big when people are analyzing the commercial like an episode of Lost.

My theory is that the iPhone is actually in purgatory. Anyone?

(Edit: Just noticed Cindynjgirl79's signature. Freaky.)

It shouldn't surprise you. This is Steve Jobs' project, and as such, it's under his direct scrutiny.

The evidence is still there in "There's never been an ipod", see the first close up (sorry don't have a time code but it is very early on, with clock, calculator, notes and settings visible as the bottom row of main icons).

(Posted this without reading the main story, they pointed this out as an update)

FYI: The new version of "Never Been" has just been reframed (zoomed in). The Notes icon still takes the same path as if there were twelve apps when leaving the screen, down and to the right. With only eleven apps, its path would be down and to the left.
