My 30" cinema display has shipped but it'll be a couple of weeks until my new macbook pro arrives. In the meantime, is it possible to use a 1.5GHz powerbook with the 64MB video adapter to drive the cinema display at a reduced resolution? It'll give me something to play with while I'm waiting

If it's not dual link DVI you should get 1920 x 1200 out.

Great, thanks for the info. At least I'll get to play with it until the new laptop arrives :D

It turns out that the best I can get is 1280x800. It's an "even" number of pixels for scaling, so it doesn't look to blurry or anything, but I was hoping for 1920x1200. Oh well, the Macbook Pro should be here soon.

Yeah, it has something to do with the video card. I had a G5 Power Mac with a Radeon X800XT with a dual-link DVI port and it could only get 2 resolutions on the 30" - 1280x800 and 2560x1600 that would scale to fit the 30". The Radeon X1900XT on my Mac Pro, though will allow me to pick from a dozen resolutions and scale it to fit the 30".
