Can you sync content to the :apple:TV then delete the source content? Thus using the :apple:TV as a file server of sorts?
160GB is useful to me as simple storage, I will flood the :apple:TV with TV/movies - I watch, then delete once I've watched them. (which I assume you can do via the remote? )
Storage space is an issue, so the extra HDD space would be welcomed.
Thanks, :apple:tv in transit

No, deletion is done as part of the syncing process. If it's gone from iTunes, it's gone. Or if your sync settings are for unwatched content only it vanishes on its own.

maybe if you used a modded :apple: TV, but I don't think you can do it normally. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So you must have your content on both the :apple:tv and the source?
Or avoid syncing once you delete the source (so as not to lose the :apple:tv copy?) by either switching it off or switching the source off?
I'm confused as to the point of the 160GB HDD here if it isn't for this? It's handy having some content direct on the :apple:tv if the file server is out of action but 160GB seems way OTT if it has to be duplicated?
apologies for stupid questions, couldn't find a straightforward answer via apple.com

Yes. You sync stuff from one iTunes library to the :apple:TV and if you make changes to the source library they get reflected on the :apple:TV. If you avoid syncing, e.g. by unplugging the ethernet between the :apple:TV and iTunes source you have no way of changing the content on the :apple:TV.
Unless, of course, you mod your :apple:TV.

Thanks balamw, looks like I'll be modding
Curious that Apple's provided 160GB of duplicate storage space. New Apple RAID TV?!
here's to workarounds :)
