monitor cracking noise?

I have an emac with a CRT monitor (it's about 3-4 years old). Has worked fine until the other day I turned it on and suddenly these loud cracking noises appeared. There is no smell. I'm thinking it's the monitor because it flickers every time it cracks.

any ideas? do you know how much it would cost to fix?

It's dying. The high voltage section that is. The price to repair is probably more than the machine is worth.
