But many people will be tuning in to see what is new with the iphone.

With all the hype and interest arounnd the iPhone, that record will be shattered.

We rarely even get close to the record until the front page is restored to normal, so hold on to your hats (in a bit...)

Cool, it's fun breaking records! It reflects great on MacRumors though as being a place where more and more people want to come to for their latest Mac news in cases like this.

Yup. 6,419 users is now the high-water mark.

The people from Guinness will need signed statements from each of us to verify that it's a MacRumors world record.

It's running slower than usual but I haven't had any errors.

So why the big records today when there really wasn't any surprise news.

So why the big records today when there really wasn't any surprise news.

Because there's always no end of people who thoroughly enjoy bitching about the lack of "any surprise news". :p ;)

and its awesome to see the record broken! hopefully it'll keep being broken come events.

I'd be interested in seeing how other mac related sites, like appleinsider, did today.

Nothing really to do with what was announced I believe - just that we had a better setup this time so more people could get online. I'm sure on previous occasions the record would have been set much higher if the capacity was there. We're slowing working out the bottlenecks :)

I'm still getting errors, hours afterwards, in fact I just got one while trying to reply. Must be still recovering, sort of like a hangover.

when i read that, i pictured Arn in his server room, partying, sharing drinks with the servers. "One for me, one for you" :p

That may have been when I was testing out Camino, Safari 3 and Firefox, so I don't know if it counted me 3 times.
