No accidental damage is covered (or damage from non-apple ram or from unauthorized upgrades like overclocking.)
Coverage on portables is worldwide if you purchase both the machine and AppleCare in the US.
if i bought in in the states and within the first year a fault occured what i be covered in ireland for a repair?
