View Full Version : What useful parts are left from my PM G5 Quad?

Jun 11, 2007, 10:50 AM
My PM G5 Quad is in need of a new logic board and processor. I am waiting until after WWDC to see if there will be an update to the Mac Pro line - as I will be buying a new one to replace my old one.

Question for the group: what's useful to keep from my old G5? I feel like I'm parting out an old Camaro or something.

I'm plannning to at minimum keep the HD and just pop it into the new machine (hope I can do that). I'm fairly certain the RAM is not going to be compatible, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can scavenge off the old machine.

From the machine itself? Relatively little other than the drive, and possibly the optical drive (there's room in a MacPro for 2 opticals) Otherwise, everything else is either incompatible or redundant.

Yes, that's what I was afraid of. :(

And yes, I do mean from the machine itself...

You can probably sell it for scrap to a reseller, as parts for other systems. I was offered to do that when my PBG4 died, however later used the RAM in another computer so was glad I didn't.

The optical drive and hard drive are still of use. I'd part out everything else.

You could sell the case of your G5, I've seen people interested in those.

You didn't get Applecare?

It's truly the best investment you can make and will save you loads of money down the road.
