Edu Discount - do you have to be there in person?

My sister is eligible for the edu discount. She has her college ID. I want to buy her a Mac. She lives 1 1/2 hrs away. Can I go to my neighborhood Apple store to buy this for her, with some sort of note or copy of her id or something? Or does she have to be there in person?

I don't want to do online, since she wants the Mac in hand sooner than delivery will be.
 
If she can't go to the Apple Store, just order it online. If it's a standard model with no hardware upgrades you'll get it quickly anyway.

What is the delivery time typically? If i ordered today, is it like a week?
The issue with delivery is that with nobody home in the daytime, leaving a box at the doorstep scares me. OR if they wont leave it, it is hard to get UPS/USPS to come when you are home. It turns into a 2 week ordeal.
