http://www.iphoneurls.com

2 are up already. Interested in seeing what other apps get submitted to the site before release.

Good idea! I was wondering when this would come around. I am trying to think of a cool app to write, _if_ I do I will submit it. Regardless, I will use it when it comes out to find some apps.

I thought Steve was spinning this Web 2.0/AJAX thing quite a bit. But, I have to admit, that shopping list thing was kind of neat. This could be quite interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

I do wish we could install widgets though...

That's why I named it "iphoneurls.com" instead of something like "iphoneapplications.com". Since we're still not sure if the link even gets an icon anywhere but in Safari, it's too early to call it an "application". The fact that they can interact with iPhone functions (calls, etc.) is pretty cool nonetheless.

This is on Digg at http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_Application_Directory - my thought is to get as many links in possible in one place. I don't have ads or anything on the site, so I hope moderators don't mind me promoting it here.

Great idea. I'd be glad to lend a hand in giving it a little iPhoneish CSS stylings. Maybe make it look like the back of the album covers in Coverflow on the iPhone, with larger button links to make it easy to use on the iPhone.

I could use a simple stopwatch... Man, a phone, ipod, revolutionary internet device and a stopwatch in one box! :D

We got a site launching with lots of apps (not all optimized for iphone) on it. We're still building the site, but I'll post as soon as we're ready :)

What I need is a checkbook. Something like Clear Checkbook (https://www.clearcheckbook.com/)

Sadly, my web-programming skillz are surpassed only by my nunchuck and bow-hunting skillz.

I was planning on using Clear Checkbook anyway, but if somebody makes an optimized version, I'd definitely check it out. Heck, the guy who does Clear Checkbook might even do it.

Does anybody have any experience with this site?

Does anyone else think this is a really messy well to use other apps on the iPhone? Go into Safari, bookmark the app, use it in a browser window...they don't really feel a part of the iPhone, just bolted on top.

There are clearly spaces for other "widgets" on the Home screen...maybe Apple will allow certain approved/tested apps (as well as their own, like maybe iChat when/if it comes in a software update) to be a "full" widget and appear on the Home screen - for instance iChat, which vibrates when you get a message, puts a little icon in the top menubar when you have an unread message or a contact comes online...working much more like a proper app/widget. Also, you should be able to get rid of the current widgets you don't like/use (I'd never use stocks, for instance), and replace them with ones you do.

Maybe this web thing is just meant for smaller apps and as a way for everyone to contribute to the iPhone and give it much more perceived flexibility, but Apple will still stick to their original statement of closely monitoring and working with 3rd-party developers, and allowing a few "official" apps to be used/bought(?) as full widgets (iChat/MSN, GPS access in Maps, etc.)?

How possible would it be to have a flashcard "app" with AJAX? would one need a login or could all the data be stored as a cookie?

I need an eWallet type app. A small little database to store account numbers, user id/pw, etc.

The problem is that it needs to be secure and encrypted. I don't want the 14 year old AJAX kid in his basement storing my account numbers in his MySQL db.

I was just about to post this need as well.

I have SpashID which I still use (not with a phone anymore, just on my iMac.)
