Although my Xbox hasn't chewed up a disc like the one pictured in this article, I'm wondering if Microsoft would be willing to send me a refurbished or repaired Xbox because I have lots of scratches on the edges of all my discs. I'm starting to worry that I might need to buy replacement discs for my whole library...

I have a model that was built in August 2006 because apparently Target had those Xbox's for a whole when I went to get mine.

Any idea if it's worth calling?

Mine started scratching discs and then had trouble reading discs that were not scratched. I called Microsoft, they sent me a coffin, I shipped it back, and within a week I got a new machine with 1 free month of Xbox Live. Nice and easy process. If I were you I'd take care of it before it completely ruins a disc. The good news for me is: the new machine plays the disc the old one scratched up without any trouble at all :)
