Mail Problem "New Mail Sound"

Ok, I wanted to change the default new mail sound.

I did the regular route of add new bla bla..tested the sound and I can hear it just fine. I have used both AIF and WAV.

However when I actually receive new Mail there is no sound at all ?

Any Ideas ?

What do you mean by "regular route?" did you hack it or change it via the "Sound" preferences? System Preferences>Sound

Do you have the "play alert sound" box checked?
Do you have the "alert volume" set to other than zero?

Regular meaning...Mail > Preferances > General > New Mail Sound...chose from list add/remove. When selecting the sound I have playback just fine. However when I get actual mail there is no playback 😕

Alert Volume at full as well.
