Connecting to other computers on my network

I have a home network consisting of a Mac Pro wired to a router. A PC and a NAS are wired and an imac is connected wirelessly as well. When I want to connect to the NAS or other computers, I need to go into Network and manually connect to the device I desire. Sometimes the NAS or other computers are not seen in my network and I have to reboot in order for them to be seen.
Is there any way I can set up my network so that the others can be seen and connected immediately, without having to go through the network icon in my finder?

I imagine you can use Automator to map a network drive. Once it works, make an application out of it and then add that app into the startup process (system prefs/Accounts/your account/startup tab). Then every time you login, the drives will map automatically.

Another option is to write an AppleScript (which is Automator manually) and do the same thing. Then add it into the startup process under your Account in System Prefs.
