View Full Version : What's your 'uniform'?
Blue Velvet

A friend of mine and I are always joking about each others 'uniforms' i.e. the clothes we're almost always seen in.
If I knocked on your door at any time during the day, would you be most likely to be wearing?
Do you have any signature items like certain sneakers, Tshirts, hats, shades, etc?
I'm usually wearing black... or dark colours like grey or dark red, almost always in black trousers and black heels or sandals. I always tend to gravitate towards the same kind of clothes... You'd never see me in a floral print skirt... :D

Jeans and a t-shirt are my 'civvies' – my feet are either shod in a pair of Doc Martens boots, or a pair of plimmies if it's a bit on the warmer side. I tend to wear darker colours, too – I look a bit odd if I've got too much bright stuff on. :o

For shirts usually sport a polo collar not "popped" and semi-tightly to snugly fitting from American Eagle (though I have one for H&M), collared shirt (from H&M or sometimes Gap), or a tee shirt i generally bought online from a store like bustedtees.com.
For bottoms i am almost always in tightish jeans (not hard to get into or too exposing, just ones more tapered and "slim fitting").
With footwear I have two options: when it is cool I wear sneakers (black adidas sambas or Brown Asics Onizuka Tigers). When it basically 50 and above i'll usually throw on my pair of leather flip flops from AE.
That's about it. I guess I could add that I wear glasses :p

I've got some Levi's that I think might be older than some of the members here.
At home: New Balance 991's, T-shirt or sport jersey, the aforementioned Levi's. Summer brings out the cargo type shorts.
On the job: pretty much the same thing. My place of biz is pretty informal. Some of the old timers who have been there since the 60's and 70's still do the "white shirt and tie every day" thing though. Alas, their numbers are dwindling a little more each year. Time always wins.

You will never see me wearing jeans. Haven't since elementary school.
Usually I wear a t-shirt and those zip-off pants/shorts combo. My shirts comprise of independent/local bands, disney, themed design, etc.
I do wear some nice dressy shirts and pants once and a while
My signature thing to have on are pins or badges as a friend calls them. They are mostly on my backpack/messenanger bags and on my light black jacket and Sasquatch track jacket.

in the summer when im not in school i teach jujitsu, so i wear a gi which is a jujitsu uniform. sometimes i add 10 lbs of sweat to the uniform. i know, what a tasty image...
when i was playing judo competitively i used to go through gi's every other year. the uniform is one of the best ways to choke your opponent, by pulling it tight over an exposed neck. at the very least, you will give your opponent a nasty red mark on the neck.

spring/summer:
usually you'll find me in my giant black sandals from Target. i bought them 3 years ago off their clearance rack for $12, and i've been wearing them ever since. i am 3.5 inches taller when i'm wearing them. since i wear them pretty much every day when it's warm out, they're starting to fall apart...and that makes me sad.
aside from the sandals, i'm usually in a crazy skirt and a black tee. yeah, it's a little boring, but i spice things up with accessories. ;)
fall/winter:
you'll find me in jeans, a printed tee, a black cardigan, and my fuzzy black velcro Rocket Dog shoes. again, very boring, but usually the tees are pretty odd/interesting.

Monday: light blue shirt with crossing pinstripes
Tuesday: medium blue checkered shirt
Wednesday: light blue shirt
Thursday: dark blue shirt
For Friday, in the summer I wear jeans and my brown polo, while in the winter I wear jeans and a black waffle knit T (http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=24887&pid=484940) from the Gap (which is funny, since generally I detest the store)
For outside, in the summer I wear pretty much anything with short sleeves. Jeans, shorts, shoes, flip-flops are all dependant on the weather. In the winter, I wear what I would wear to work on Fridays. The only variation I have in the winter is that I have that waffle T in orange, red, black, blue, yellow, black, green, and black. The wife made me get the variety of colors.

Wow...
I really like my routine. It makes the week go by a bit quicker, it helps me remember what day of the week it is, and I never have to think about what I'm wearing. And, it really minimizes my closet space, since I don't have much that I wear.

Well lets see... When I'm not at work I'm usually found in shorts and a tee shirt, unless I'm going out somewhere. Then I'll throw a shirt over a white tee. Flip flops, my Merrells, or my Docs depending. Sometimes even my hiking boots if I'm gonna be on a trail all day.
For work it varies drastically depending. Slacks, shoes, shirt, tie, jacket -- the whole nine yards if I'm meeting with a client or potential client. Jeans and a halfway decent shirt and Docs or Merrells if I'm going to be walking a job site with a Contractor. I learned the hard way not to wear black slacks to a job site.
I used to be a "jeans and tee shirt" kind of guy pretty much exclusively, but the wife has encouraged me to expand my wardrobe, and work has required some nicer dress. I guess I don't really have a "uniform" anymore.

I think it was almost ten years ago that I coined the phrase "The Uniform" to denote the standard male business casual dress of light blue oxford shirt and tan khakis. (See the Steve Ballmer videos for the most appalling example thereof.)
Me? Well, I try to change it up a lot. However, my go-to casual mode of dress is:
Baby blue t-shirt, either a plain l/s or s/s with interesting print
Dark blue jeans
Black suede Adidas Gazelles or brown casual shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction or Unlisted, usually)
For the dress casual look:
Nice dress shirt or v-neck sweater, either a good solid color or interesting striped pattern
Grey slacks
Black dress shoes
I used to just wear black, black, and more black. Now I typically reserve the black for my jacket, shoes, or occasional t-shirt. Wouldn't mind finding a good pair of black jeans again, or some slim-fitting black trousers.
My feelings on jeans are conflicted: I love how comfortable and versatile they are, but it drives me nuts when I go out and notice that everyone else is wearing blue jeans as well! Seeing row upon row of semi-faded blue legs on the bus is kind of... depressing, actually.

A short sleeve button down with generic Asian Characters on them, Black jeans (some times blue) and my ratty shoes. (have to wear building shoes at work so I never care about shoes).
In the winter you can find me rocking that look with a hoodie thrown over it.

Usually...
Fresh white valleys and pink tube socks
Tight gray Levi's and shirts with polka dots
Rolex watch but it's fake
Gold gazelle glasses and a platinum chain
But it's fake...
Mickey Avalon anyone?
But really usually something like this in the summer:
