Hi, I haven't bought my mac yet and I was wondering what everyone recommends for software. I'll need a word processing program and more than likely a presentation program. But I read that Appleworks has both of those plus a spreadsheet app. Is this correct? Is Appleworks basically like Microsoft Works whereas iWork is like Word/powerpoint equivalent. Is there much of a difference between the word processor and presenation program in Appleworks versus iWork(or does applework include pages and keynote).
Sorry if this is confusing. Thanks for any advice :) :apple: :)

I don't have a mac (yet), but I've heard from several people that Appleworks has been quietly ignored, so it's probably not as up-to-date as iwork. I'd really go with iWork, plus the rumor is there might be a spreadsheet app on that soon as well :)

I would go with iWork, since Appleworks is basically dead, and iWork is its successor.

Appleworks seems like a program from 1997...it's way out of date.
Keynote and Pages from iWork are beautiful programs.

I just bought iWork '08, only 10 months after buying iWork '06. And I was so blown away by the iWork '08 trial that I bought it after only 1 day of trying it out. Give it a shot.

I would say NeoOffice, I haven't used this personally (seeing as, I don't have a mac yet) but it is free, and from what I can tell, a decent word processor, but if you can spend the money, I would say iWork
