I have a not-so-legal copy of XP, I burned it as an ISO file, it boots if I hold down option at startup, my harddrive has already been partitioned with Bootcamp, but when Bootcamp asks to insert an XP disk it doesn't recognize it as one.

Am I okay to just boot from the XP disk and go from there?

nope you need a proper copy of XP (ie one you have paid for)

bootcamp will detect if you have a proper bootable CD in there rather then a upgrade i think ?

Countdown to this thread being locked by a moderator... 3... 2... 1...

To the OP: Seriously, don't ask for help if software you've acquired illegally doesn't do what you expect. Buy a licence - or better still, get used to OSX!

Proper XP Upgrade discs are bootable... they just require that an installed prior version of Windows or its install media be present to proceed.

What the OP probably has is not a proper copy. And to be absolutely clear, having a copy of the install media means nothing without a valid product key. You'll get about 30% into the installation process and you will be asked for such a key. If you have a valid key, you will then have 30 days to activate -- you won't be able install critical system updates and Windows will start complaining. OH Microsoft does a decent job of figuring out if the key in question has already been activated elsewhere and you may be required to talk to someone on the phone to explain your actions to complete the process if this is the case.

Go to newegg.com and buy an OEM copy of XP Home for $90 and be done with it.

No, no and no...

Did I mention no?

Not on my boards, even if it is ripping Psychosoft off....

Sorry.
