This is news? They showed them at the WWDC.
Ah, I long for the good old days when "news" meant something other than "information".

Doesn't seem like a big deal for Macworld Expo. Will still be awhile before machines show up.

To what, 3500 developers?
This would be the first hands-on showing to a large general public. Some people actually might like to see one up close before ordering.

but are these going to be production machines, or still the developer preview machines? I would imagine they'd want them to be as polished as possible before putting them in front of the general public...

Anybody got any thoughs on this?
Have they mixed up the heat figures of the dual 2Ghz with a single one,
and just extrapolated it from there?

Speculation? Or do you have some evidence for this?

Yes, 3500 developers who have seen them, and 1 million Mac Rumours followers who have only seen them in pictures and Quicktime video files.
This is the first time a normal Joe would be allowed to touch a new G5 PM without losing his fingers. Mac geeks will finally be able to whack off to the sight of something tangible. ;)

I sure hope that Apple will show the updated PowerBook lineup, which Jozwiak will introduce during his keynote, at the same time! I am desperately waiting for a Rev.B 12-inch PowerBook. And many others have been waiting for an Aluminum 15-inch PowerBook since January.

I've heard that the G5 XServe will be coming out in August.
And while I'm on the subject of G5, those of you who ordered G5's and had them modified (aka- more memory, better graphics card, etc..), those won't ship until the beginning of september. Those of us who bought just the box, will get ship sometime in August.

It must be for the duel because that figure seems way too high for a chip with its number of transisters, clock rate, and manufactureing process size.

I have a secret feeling that Apple will ditch the mouse idea all together and introduce some newer better interface. THe more I think about the mouse/trackball/trackpad interface, the less efficiant it seems.
I aslo realy want a new Dual G5 15in. Powerbook that gets delivered to you house be very limber asian twins.
My guess is Apple will show off it's new "Office Suite"

i wonder how long it will be before apple stores have them...? will we have to wait til they're shipping in full to see them in the stores?
seeing one in person might be a good reason to go to macworld after all... of course, it would be pretty neat to order it and be totally 100% surprised when it arrives, having never seen it in person.. heh.

What the!?!?!? The more G5s they show at these expos, the less Apple will be shipping out in August! Stop wasting those precious aluminum boxes!
And one more thing - Has anyone else noticed that when you type in "Apple" mid-sentence in Mircosoft Word, it does not try to correct the capitalized 'A' in Apple. That's kind of cool.

This news might just be designed to get more people to the show. I know that there seems to have been a great deal of constant pressure to get people through the doors of this one. Having a G5 around that people can rub up against might just be an attempt to make people stand up and take notice. I'm sure the announcement about it was.
And I hope, hope, hope they do the ta-da! with a new 12" PB. I would be extra good this year if they did.

Go check out the eMac for the new Apple keyboard and mouse. Saw one at a compusa yesterday. keyboard keys have same great feel; overall the outside edge of the keyboard is non-existant so it has a smaller form factor. Mouse is basically the same as the Apple Pro mouse.

However, the upside will be the refurbished units avilable for $200 to $400 off retail. :-)

Don't you know that aluminum is the 3rd most common element on Earth? The first 3 are oxygen, silicon, and aluminum, in that order.

I don't think I'll be able to get that close. I will try my best though. The apple folks won't look to kindly to people trying to pull stuff off the machines. Anyway I doubt they have them hooked up to moniters, we just get to stare at them.:(
