playing mkv files with quicktime

Hi, I got my first ever mac yesterday and I would appreciate some help with this problem.

The files play fine in VLC but I would like to play them using front row. I found this post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=300835) which should help me but I (think) I have done what it says and still have no luck - the only bit I'm not sure on is the beta bit? is this refering to a beta of perian or divx? I think it is refering to perian so I googled that and have found this (http://digg.com/apple/Perian_1_0_released) article which says perian 1.0 doesn't exist!

I'm very confused - please help me!

as far as i can see though, 1.0 beta is the only version that plays mkv files - the version on the link you provided (0.5) doesn't!

does anyone know where I can get a beta of version 1 from?
