differences between osX and the pc os(x86), help

i need 5 big , huge differences between the systems osX and x86.

Define peecee OS. You have Solaris x86, BSD, SCO UNIX, linux, DOS, Windows, etc. If you want to compare OS X to Windows, then how about better file and directory security, more immune to viruses, built upon industry standards rather then self created specifications, the hardware and software were designed as one, rather then separate entities. The OS is also faster then the bloated code in Windows. More functionality because its based upon UNIX. Some companies sell software that will work on UNIX platforms (Sun, HP, etc.) and the Windows server line. If you want a lot of capabilities, you have to use the UNIX variation, as the OS is too constrictive in what functionality it offers. Since the OS is constrictive, so are the functions an application can provide.

well first, why do you want to compare an operating system [OS X] and a processor platform [x86]?? Makes no sense.

1. OS X gets the hell out of your way, Windows likes to ask you 16 different ways to set up networking.

2. OS X is much easier to look at from both an aesthetic viewpoint and a fatigue viewpoint. Softer and more "printed" looking.

3. The hardware is much better overall than Windows boxes, looks nicer in the office and lasts longer.

4. The whole software/hardware intergration thing. Much better user experience.

5. It just works, 99% of the time, with little or no effort for the usual user.

um... os x is an OS. x86 is a processor.

unix is an OS. pc is a hardware...

could you define the problem a little better? do you want OS X vs. UNIX (which aren't the same) vs. Windows? Linux? Or PPC vs. x86?

"PC" is commonly used to describe a computer running Windows, but technically, it's just a "personal computer." Macs are also PCs.

x86 refers to Intel processors which used to be called 8086, 286, 386, 486, etc. After 486, Intel started calling their chips with names, i.e. Pentium, Celeron, etc. Windows runs on Intel chips... But so can Linux and other "PC" OSes.

I think the original question you meant to ask is the difference between Mac OS X and MS Windows. I don't know where UNIX comes in, except that since OS X is based on UNIX technology, you might have thought OS X is the same as UNIX...

Other than the fact OS X is made by Apple and Windows by Microsoft, differences are mostly due to taste. OS X runs on PPC, which are RISC chips while Windows runs on Intel/AMD chips, which are CISC chips. ([ed] actually, my knowledge is fuzzy here... AMD is still CISC, right? differences between them are kinda small these days, but...) Both OSes are 32 bit, GUI based...

Usability, stability, etc. are based on personal taste, though since this is a Mac forum, you'll find most people here finding OS X to be more usable and stable.

Not os x86. OS stands for operating system and therefore is software. Take Mac OS, Windows or Unix, for example.

On the other side is the hardware, where you could compare the x86 (notice the missing os ;) ) to the PPC. Intel uses the x86 technoloy, while Apple uses the PPC one.

After having built a machine with one of the above hardwares, you can then use an operating system on it, like Windows for the x86 and Mac OS for the PPC.

i ahve not slept in 3 days flat, and only about 3 hors from day to day in the last few weeks, please forgive me, i have to deliver a thesis in about one day and i don't know what i am asking anymore, hehehehe.
