View Full Version : Post your Quicksilver Interface!

I love this little app, and lately I've been looking for a new interface. After trying out a couple of looks, I decided it might be neat to see how other MR users had theirs configured. Below is my current look, let's see yours!

Just in case some might not know: type COMMAND + SHIFT + 4, then hit SPACEBAR. Invoke Quicksilver and click on it, and a picture will be saved to your desktop. :)

Not sure how long this thread can be kept alive. There's only two standard interfaces (as far as I know), but maybe someone can surprise me with something nice and special... :)

BTW, I use the Bezel one, too...

The interfaces included with my QS are: Cube, Primer, Bezel, Menu, and Flashligh. And there's a third-party one floating around out there that smokes :)

Personally, I use the Bezel with a little bit of glass. I'll post a shot later when I get back on my Mac at home.

Go to the plug-ins bit, and search for 'interface' :)

Just guessing, but it could be that you do not have the latest beta (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/)...

You enable the iTunes plugin, and then you just scroll through the list of actions for iTunes.

I've got all the browsing functionality, and all I've got installed is the standard iTunes module.

EDIT: Just to clarify, these aren't actions for the iTunes.app itself; they're actions of other items in your primary search, like iTunes Playlists.

Right, that's all I installed as well. Once I have itunes on my quicksilver, I press down and I get to browse.

I also installed some type of notification program / album display so I know what's playing, so I don't even have to bring up itunes. Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

and about that program you use to show your current track; what do you use? I use "You control Tunes" i actually like it a lot!:D :D

You don't need anything other than QuickSilver. I used to have YouControlTunes or any of a half dozen other programs, but then I discovered that QuickSilver's built-in stuff puts them all to shame. To control/display stuff in iTunes:

1. Make sure you have the iTunes and Growl modules installed (and of course make sure you have Growl itself installed).
2. Go to the "iTunes" panel on the main preferences screen and check "Show Artwork", "Monitor recent tracks", and "Display track notifications".
3. Go to the "Handlers" panel on the main preferences screen and select Growl for Notification.
4. At this point, a notification will pop up whenever iTunes changes tracks. Go to your Growl prefpane to change the display properties for that notification. Additionally, I setup QuickSilver triggers for iTunes; if you set one for "Show playing track" (I use Option-Command-i) it will pop up the same Growl notifier to show you what track is playing at any time when you press that key combo. I also use Option-Command-RightArrow, Option-Command-LeftArrow, and Option-Command-Space for Next, Previous, and Play/Pause respectively.

With QuickSilver and those steps, I have completely eliminated the need for any other iTunes control/info program. QuickSilver's handling of these events is more elegant than any other program I've used AND it conserves resources by allowing you to run fewer apps in the background.

EDIT: If you've seen Growl then you're probably fully aware of this, but see attached screenshot for an example of QuickSilver using Growl to notify me of the track information. Growl style is Music Video.

It doesn't really crash like other programs, it usually just disappears and the only way to get it back, for me, is to use spotlight as I don't have a dock. But it crashes daily on me, nothing too big, as it is still in beta.

QS crashes about once a week for me. It's by far the most common crash on my computer. Normally I'd be annoyed that it crashes like that, but since QS is by far and away my most used and OS X altering application, I can't use a Mac without it, so it gets plenty of slack about crashing weekly.

You can.

Go to the quicksilver preference pane and navigate to catalog. Go to custom, click the plus symbol on the bottom, and add whichever folder you would like to scan. After that's done a drawer should slide out letting you select how deep to scan. Be careful as this can slow down your response time with a lot of files. :apple:

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but this is the coolest thing I've seen today.

That gear icon had always kept me away because it never conveyed what the action was. To me it said "settings." Now I can use QuickSilver without it freaking bugging me. Thanks!

By the way, to anyone wondering how to do this, the file is in the Dock.app in /System/Library/Core Services/ Search for it in coverflow view and you'll find it. Make a copy and rename the png to defaultAction.icns (no need to convert it to an icon) and drag to QuickSilver (right click > Show Package Contents) /Contents/Resources/. Then restart QuickSilver.

Now all someone needs to do is make a Lion QuickLook interface:
