The iPod AV cable, can you plug that directly into the iPod headphone jack and it will work, or do you have to have the special dock as well?

Just plug it into the headphone jack, go to the settings and enable TV-out.

Yes, you can do it straight from the headphone jack.

Is the one you have the actual one from apple, or is it another brand?
(it looks like a different brand to me)

It's a generic brand but works great. (I have an actual Apple one I got from a connection kit as well, and I can't see any difference in the quality, even on a 55" TV!)

i have a REALLY generic cable from an older video camera. these cables work great! however, you're going to want to encode your ipod videos in MPEG2 for the quality to shine. apple charges you a nice markup on their cable and i've seen these cable kits selling at radioshack for 30-40 bucks (ripoff!). 10 bucks for a nice white one is totally sweet.

The DVD Burner: if I were to take it out of the case and put it in my G4's optical drive bay, would it work just the same as if plugged into USB 2.0?
My USB 2.0 card is incredibly sketchy and only works for very small files (basically making it useless) and I doubt it would get very many succesful burns with bad data transfer.
LMK, possibly interested.
