Remember all those stories a little while ago about how ATT peeps have been going around making sure their network was working clear and fast ahead of the iphone launch (i think it was called operation fine edge): boosting signals in areas that were originally weak or trying to give edge more power and so on. Anyway my question is does anyone who currently uses ATT think their some of their calls are "suddenly" clearer or Edge "seems" a little faster?

Yes, I too have wondered about "Operation Fine EDGE". TUAW wrote (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/05/atandt-tuning-edge-network-for-iphone/) about it a while back, my dad has an 8125 that uses EDGE, I'll have to ask if he's noticed any speed bumps.

Yea I asked one of my friends today (he uses edge) and he said the internet been a little just a tad faster lately... ah well maybe nobody else was using it at the time...

in my area, renton, wa, edge is still the same and call quality has been poor since early may.

I also wonder if previously bad areas have been improved. I live in Houston, TX and I've read some not-so-great things on the 'Net about the cell reception for AT&T/Cingular. I'm with Sprint now which has its areas of spottiness too...but if AT&T is worse, I'm not gonna enjoy the fact I plopped down $600+ for the iPhone.

Seattle area here, and I've noticed what seems like a LOT of network work going on lately - GPRS/EDGE has been going down for half an hour here and there, calls were occasionally having trouble, etc. Seems to have stopped as of late last week, and EDGE seems consderably faster.

I'd say it appears 30-50% faster than previously, but that may be in part wishful thinking on my part.

I noticed starting late last year that my signal was getting better. I don't use EDGE but I do notice much better signal quality. HSDPA speeds were good the last time I used it - 700k/s.
