hello...may seem like a silly question

but is it possible (i'm pretty sure it is) to connect two macs by ethernet or airport?

sorry if i seem n00b-ish

You can connect 'em with a string of male ducks and some chewy if you want. Are you wanting to share files? Then enable it in the Sharing pane of System Preferences before connecting the two Macs with either AirPort or ethernet (or Firewire). 🙂

cool...thanks for that mad jew

although i'm still having trouble...when u go into file sharing...how many boxes do you tick?

Just Personal File Sharing should suffice. Do you have AppleTalk enabled in the Network pane of System Preferences, corresponding with the connection you're using? 🙂

At the Lenny Bruce midnight concert he mentioned how he tried to get there by asking the local aircraft operator if he could hire a plane as all the roads were snowed in. The operator said, "have you ever flown before" Lenny replied "No, but everyone never flew before, once".

Once you have all the correct setttings, how do you initiate a transfer?

From the Finder menu Go>Network and if you can't see the server then you could try Go>Connect to server and put the address in, it will be something like 10.0.0.x you can find what the number of the other computer is by going to the System Preferences and selecting Sharing and looking at the afp: address at the bottom

kk....thanx for the encourgement Db...i can get drop boxes...but i can't find them on the other mac...also i can only connect as a guest...how do i set a password or what username do i use?

You can use the username and password of an account on the machine you're connecting to. Sometimes it takes a little while for the folders to appear in the Network folder, which is why dogbone's Connect To Server tip is brilliant. You'll need the IP of the Mac you're connecting to, and this can be found on that Mac in the Sharing pane of System Preferences, when you click on Personal File Sharing (make sure not to uncheck it). This'll display the entire address you'd need to put into the Connect To Server box.
