I'll be there - been to every East Coast show since '88 or so. But I'm not expecting much. With all the name-changes and Apple/IDG squabbling it's bound to be a lot smaller, both in vendors and attendees.

Yeah, that's got me a bit worried....I went and looked at the exhibitor list and wasn't all that impressed - not many big names.
No Adobe, Apple, Newtek, Alias/Wavefront or Game companies....
Now I'm thinking I'll get feed back from the people who go and base my decision on making the trip on the reports....

Ah, I think their View All button is broken. If you click on each letter of the alphabet you'll see there are more exhibitors than if you click view all.

No, though I've never been before. They're always so far from where I live! I wish they had an expo in Chicago during the school year. Then, at least, I could go to one while I'm at my university (if I can find time).
But Apple sure does know how to kill a party. Steve wasn't happy with the Expo plans, so he pulls out his keynote and the G5 announcement. Poor IDG :(
BUT maybe he will throw them a fish bone, like new keyboards, mice, and monitor. Or a brontosaurus bone, like 15" PBs.

Not poor IDG. Last year they were huge jerks. I was suppossed to be there to take photos for this company, along with another person who was writing an article. So we were press and talked to the person in charge the night before and he assured us that everything was set.
When we got there they were turning away 90% of the press and making them buy expo passes. Everyone was complaining and all they did was say "tough. you may have recieved a pass last year, but that was a different group, we control it now." Then this woman goes on about how she makes $200/hr and doesn't need to deal with complaints like this, and that it isnt a big deal as the pass is only $15.
Then when I went to get my pass they told me I was in the wrong line because I was suppossed to have a press pass, and to go back over to that line. It wasnt worth the headache I had to get the pass...let me tell you....geez

I don't think Steve will, but he has before. The first MacWorld Expo in NYC in fact. He was supposed to come on via Satelitte hookup. This was the expo in which the original iMac was announced and demoed. I remember vividly being told by Apple and Mac web sites that Steve was satelitte hookup, and then supposedly from what I understand Steve like flew overnight to make it at the last moment to announce the original iMac which was the beginning of the "resurrection" of the "bealeagured" Apple. I was told by some of the other attendees that Steve came rather hurryly and seemed like he had just come out of a shower or something....LOL!

I lived in Boston when they had it in Boston, and then they moved it to NYC. I thought it was kinda stupid and very short sighted. I thought Boston's legislature and stuff was a bunch of dumb stubborn idiots about the convention center thing.....they wanted the Democratic convention more.....and LOST that bid too....doh!!!!!!!! I still didn't complain. I still bought the Amtrak tickets and got hotel reservations. I even took my sweetie along with me when the Cube got launched. It was nice to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and the WTC building before it got blowed up. To me it really doesn't matter whether it is in Boston or NYC.....either way it was expensive for me! I, however, admit that I am glad it is back in Boston where it was from the beginning on the East Coast and had a history there.....and well my mom still lives in the Boston area so it gives me a chance to see my mom and family......and maybe if I get lucky my sweetie and I can crash at mom's apartment instead of having to pay the hotel fees.....YAY!!!! If it had stayed in NYC, I still would have considered going in 2004 if I had the money to go. It really isn't a big deal. I just wish the Bostonians and New Yorkers or should I say Bastonians and New Yawkers would take a chill pill and call a truce or peace or something......the Bambino curse and all!

Sorry man,
It's just that i've been to each macworld since 99, and wanted the july tradition to continue. I'd always get whatever company i was working for to pay for some passes and i'd essentially be getting points at the office for 'research' and 'keeping ahead of the technology. 4 hours of freetime and free passes? How could i pass that up? I doubt that my company's going to pay for me to take time off to go to Boston for a mac fest. Oh well. Enjoy it next year. I hope the Apple IDG tension softens before then or it'll be a pretty boring show.

Well, for free tics, it will be saving me $35, but I don't know if I'm going to get one or not.
Now the train fare costs 144 and parking puts that just around $200. Now I'm wondering if its going to be worth it. It not much, but since I'm saving up for a new machine, every little bit will help.
I'd love to hear from people who go what they think and if its worth the trip.

$200 to go to MWCP? That's 100x what I'll be spending to get there! If the MTA wasn't such a corrupt and inefficient organization, my subway ride would be more like $1.00, and then I could say you are spending 200x as much me!
But seriously, $200 seems like a lot for a non-Jobs keynote. If I were you, I'd put it towards that new machine you're saving up for.

I'm leaning that way right now myself. I'm under a bit of a crunch getting the money together as it is and every little bit will help. I'm planning on dropping $6k for the whole thing anyway :D
It would be nice to see the machines in person and meet up with some friends, but its all a matter of priority. I tried to get work to pay for it, but there's nothing there that really affects my job....so, it would be a vacation day and a travel expenses on me....not that I wouldn't have fun, but....

attendance is down.
By last week, about 13,000 people and about 130 exhibitors had registered for Macworld, which opens at the Javits Center. Korse would not estimate how many more people will show up this week, but said he considers the early registration numbers a success because the show is all new.

Sadly only NY & Washington are listed on the schedule, no Boston information to be found. We still have Amtrak, just at a premium price. Since I'm 6' 8" a bus would probably be miserable for that long of a distance. A plane is bad enough! :(

nice price, only thing is that its 4 hours, leaves at 8:30 - so if there is no traffic I might get there by 12:30 - more likely 1 and then have to leave at 5:30...thats a little tight for me. 8 hours on a bus too....blah....if I really thought I should go I'd cough up the money and take the train. We'll see what happens tomorrow if anything new shows up or something interesting makes it worth while.

The G5's seemed good, but they don't let you play with them. They have an apple employee at each one and you tell them what to do and they do it for you because it is a "protoype machine with a beta OS".
That pissed me off. PLus the expo was really really small.

I just wanted to see what the machine was capable of. I had a bunch of QuickTime instances going, a few transparent Terminal windows over the movies, a Photoshop effect in progress, and some active window resizing. The machine held up very well. They even let me take off the side panel. Though despite all my begging and pleading, they wouldn't let me remove the plastic cover...

I, too, ordered the "FREE" tickets. I was excited about going and the tickets HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN SENT! If I go to my order confirmation it simply says that my order is confirmed on the 9th (I even got a confirmation email) but that NO SHIPPING has taken place.
I know beggars can't be choosers and all, but the TIX are now $10 more than if would have ordered them direct and after all of the minute by minute updates from the various sites (ok, hour by hour maybe), I'm not sure I'm going.
I think mainly it's the bad taste of the FREE TICKET PRESS STUNT. Has ANYONE received their tickets? (It's a bit late to receive them on FRIDAY.)

Well, i was there today, and they let us play with them all we wanted, with the exception of the one machine running Panther. THAT one we couldn't use without an Apple Employee watching us, but we were allowed to play a little while they watched.
My friend and I even convinced the Apple guy to take the plastic cover off the G5 on the rotating pedestal and look at the fans, processers etc.
He even said you can run it just fine with the metal cover off and the plastic one on.
w00t! now I can show my friends the beautiful wiring (which, by the way, is perfect, which I am sure helps the airflow).
