Sounds true for the most part but there is no way every Apple store is getting 500 units, not nearly enough for flagship stores.

I'd guess 500 is the amount for the standard apple store. Flagship stores probably get 1000 or more.
I'd venture to say AT&T stores will get 100.
1800 x 100 + 500 x 200 + extras is about 300,000 phones. A reasonable number.

Why would you conclude 100 for ATT stores??? They are staying late open as well and they hired 2,000 temp. employees for this launch. Concerning ATT stores, quantites will be determinied solely on demographics and population.

Well I figure the 100 is an average. Stores in affluent areas will have more, and not so many on the other end of the spectrum.

iphone is surely going to be huge, but it seems that it would be detrimental to apple as a company to limit how many people come in, or are in at any given time. given they only recently dropped 'computers' and changed the company name to apple, inc, it seems foolish to completely ignore people who might want to be looking at computers too.
on another note, the new in-store displays are amazing. they really look awesome.

How will this work for indoor mall stores? Will a store such as the one in Mission Viejo Mall also get 500?

Crowd management.
They simply do not want things to turn into a zoo. Nothing wrong with only 50 people IMO. That just means I will actually be able to find a salesperson to talk to me.

50 people can fit in a Regular Apple Store? I must go to the small ones.

I think it would be more detrimental if someone got trampled, or if the stores got closed down for fire code violations.

Reading this post has convinced me of one thing ... I think there will be a lot of people disappointed on Friday when they can't get the iPhone. I really can not believe these numbers.

I dunno why AT&T or Apple Stores would figure they'd have to be open late on Friday night if they don't plan on having enough stock to take care of everyone whether you show up at noon or 6 p.m. If people aren't setting up service in-store you'd figure it would be quick-ish.

This thread is BS as the stores, both Apple and AT&T don't know how many iPhones they will have in stock yet. When word gets out, it will get out hard....not by one Apple store concierge.

Exactly. AT&T stores don't need 4 hours to sell 50 phones.
Ordinarily I'd expect on the order of 100-200 thousand Phones ready to go. That'd be around 100 a store. Maybe Apple pulled off a miracle and has half a million shipping stateside.
