Me Personally I have Tmobile and my 2 year contract doesnt run out until Oct 2008. Seems like a long time away the cost to break the contract is 200.00 dollars. This is because I purchased a Tmobile Dash in Oct 2006 and recently I sold it for 250 and right now I have a crappy phone. So my dilemma is to upgrade to another phone with Tmobile or break the contract for 200.00 and go with At&T and the Iphone. The current plan I have with Tmobile is 1500 anytime free nights and weekends free long distance with no data for 49.99 + tax. So my question is are alot of your breaking your contracts with your current providers for the Iphone or are you waiting it out. Its a pretty hefty termantion fee. But Tmobile has nothing like the Iphone maybe the TMobile Wing which is touchscreen but I assume its nothing like the Iphone. Im just trying to get an idea of whats the best thing to do for me thanks in advance.

Yep. As soon as I get my iPhone im xfering my number and that will cancel my contract with Sprint and they will charge me the $150 cancellation fee. Sprint can go jump off a bridge. My contract ends in Jan 08 but its cheaper to just cancel now because they wont let you change to an emergency plan without extending your contract.

I will likely just switch from my Verizon contract and pawn my VX9900 on ebay to subsidize the $175 cancellation fee.

My T-Mobile contract ended June 3rd! I bought a new phone last year (june 3rd) but opted to pay a little more over going with a 2-year contract. worked in my favor!

I'm planning to not long after the release, not going to go get one on release day. Sprint keeps trying to tell me I've got a contract until November of next year because they gave me some free thing, even though I didn't change plans or get a new phone, but I'll be damned if they're gonna get away with that unless they can show me a signed contract with my name on it. Damn idiots in "customer service."

Yup I will be switching from Sprint to get the iPhone. Its funny Im catching ALOT of flak from people I know because I just got the Treo 700wx in March and I had to break contract with Verizon to get it and now Im breakin a contract again. What can I say, I love cell phones and really there hasnt been a phone that can do what I want until the iPhone comes out. Atleast I know I will be selling the 700wx on ebay and it will pull $250-$300 easy so Im not coming out of pocket for the cancellation fee.

I am with Tmobile and I am going to call and tell them Im moving to my family home in which no cell provider currently provides coverage. If that doesnt work then I will pay the termination fee.

I'm breaking Sprint. Had them for 7 years, am on an outstanding and cheap retention plan (tried to leave several times before) but the new Mogul WM6 PPC-6800 is driving me bonkers. It's sluggish and irritating. Worth returning it and paying $200 for me.
I just hope the calendar on the iPhone is adequate for a busy schedule. The lack of a to-do list is really puzzling. :(

By porting your number it is supposed to auto cancel your service. Or at least that is what I am told. I too am in the process of leaving Sprint. It got my BAN yesterday (no deposit 4 me!!!). I think I will ge tthe Family Plan with free no camera phones. Then buy the iPhones some time towards the end of July or maybe even August (400 for 2 line ETF FTW!!!).

I have one, and I'm totally happy with it. it reads SDHC so I've got a 4GB card in there, opera mini working swimmingly, and telenav works too.
The first day I had it it was really slow but I guess they do some OTA update right after you activate the phone and that's what caused the problem. it zips along now. Great phone, considering I got it for $109. Even with an 8GB sdhc I'll be coming out way ahead of the iPhone price and the service is only costing me $50/mo.

Hey JoJoCal . . . Have you checked into selling used Sprint phones? I have sold my unlocked Treo that I used on T-Mobile before, but I just removed the SIM card. I wasn't sure how to sell my Treo from Sprint since their is no SIM to remove.

I called t-mobile last week and bitched to them about an ongoing service problem I've had. They won't let me out of my contract but gave me a $100 credit on my bill. However my family plan is $100 a month plus t-zones and other charges - about $125 on average. Getting the $100 off and with how pricey my family plan is, it is cheaper for me to pay the $200 then to wait till March 08 to get out. My only issue is waiting for new Macs to comes out, hopefully mid to late July and to hear the response on the iPhone from consumers, i.e. forum members, as well as seeing and touching a display model in an Apple store.

Yea Im somewhat familiar with the process. Since mine doesnt have a sim card I need to call Sprint and have them release the serial or whatever that number is called. I then will do a hard reset which will wipe out the treo and return it to factory. Theres several people who sell the used Treos on ebay and the 700wx goes for about $300.

According to this, you should be able to cancel T-Mobile without a fee because they recently raised their text messaging prices:

You sure about VZW prorating? I called the other day and the rep told me it was $175 to cancel -- didn't matter that my contract is up in Oct.

One option is to use a service like cellswapper.com (http://www.cellswapper.com) . That will only cost you like $15 instead of $175+ to get out of your contract

If you signed a contract after march '06 then the termination fee is prorated on Verizon.

Naw... I can't switch until some one give me a good reason to sign up with a company that is almost as bad as Sprint except gives me slower data rates at 3x the price. Not to mention that the iPhone is still no where near as practical and functional as the Treo or other smartphones that cost must as much.
After checking out that Mogul WM6 PPC-6800I might just stick with Sprint after all... I hate the fact that it runs windows mobile but it looks a hell of a lot better than that outdated PalmOS.

According to the article and my talk with t-mobile moments ago, the notices went out in the April and May statements. I will have to check mine, but the language of the terms and conditions says you have 14 days to cancel and must follow some instructions, unless the notice dictates a longer time period. Not sure what the notice says, but the period to take advantage of this may have already passed.

So yeah, 14 days from the notice which was sent out in a bill I recieved last month, and I doubt that it is longer than that in the notice. Anyone know if the t-mobile early term fee is $175 or $200.

It really does take SDHC. I have 4GB in the phone right now, by the time you get one 8gb should be easy to get. Wifi works great. Opera mini beta 4 runs fine. I've got IM, threaded SMS running now with minimal hacking. Email works a lot better than WM5, it's much easier to configure. keyboard is really, really pleasant to use. And it's a very small phone, much smaller than the images would let you believe. It is smaller than the 8525. Telenav works great with my $60 bluetooth GPS reciever.
Music implementation is good with WM10. the screen is nice and bright, and they made a LOT of improvements on things about WM5 that really irritated me. Now you hit the send button and a really nice touchscreen keypad comes up, and it automatically recognizes the numbers you're typing in and gives you an easily accessible call log. Picture mail works fine.
I'm really happy with it. It also charges off any computer with a USB port through standard mini usb (really convenient). Signal is good.
Not enough it is missing that the iPhone has to convince me to give up my great deal on service and on the phone.

These things sound good. I may just pick one up as well. It says on Sprints website that it is WM6... when did you get yours since you are using WM5? I think WM6 is compatible with Missing Sync so I will be able to sync all of the MacOS X stuff with it but do you have problems with syncing it to your computer mac/pc?
Sorry just curious before I blow $400 on a Pocket PC when I am very used to Palm. And by the way... I really like the iPhone and the way you navigate around it and how it syncs so flawlessly with MacOS X, but feature for feature this phone seems better and cheaper.

From all the negatives I've heard about AT&T's network, there's no way in hell I'm switching. I do, however, like the new unlimited data plans, although unlimited dial-up speeds don't exactly turn me on... and they could have done a lot better than 200 texts.

AT&T has 3G available in most major cities, and its a hell of a lot faster than dial up!

I had a WM5 treo before I got this phone- it is in fact WM6.
Syncs fine to my computer with activesync (PC user) but if you've got an intel mac and parallels you're golden anyway.
I've had mine since launch on the 18th. Hacks are already coming out to enhance the functionality of WM6.
Let me just put it this way: WM6 is a HUGE improvement over WM5. It is much slicker, cleaner, and easier to navigate in fewer keystrokes. And if you really find yourself missing the iPhone, there's already iPhone themes right down to the "slide to unlock."
