Anyone with a SR MBP NOT have an audio static problem?

Just trying to work out if it is a wide spread problem or not. Here's the thread about it:

It seems to be most notable when you use headphones.

I am thinking of getting one, but since I do a lot of audio work, I don't want to get something that will be worse than my current PowerBook G4.

My MBP does not have any static noise problems. I can play audio from the built in speakers, headphones, and external speakers without any cracking- even at full volume.

I would say that it is an isolated issue- I went to the Apple store to check out the audio quality of MBPs, and they didnt sound abnormal either.

I have the 2.2ghz, plugged headphones and couldn't hear any static. The sound is crystal clear.

while at the apple store, i plugged my headphones into different laptops while playing around with some programs. Didn't notice any static or other problems.

A major and consistent issue like that would have easily been fixed by apple. I"m sure those with the problem got defective models... which they should prob return.

I haven't noticed any static problems with my MBP and I've been using 10.4.10 since it was released. :)

Although I do use optical into my amplifier rather than hard wired.

yeah, but from what I experience and understand, this is not a problem when playing audio, it occurs when no audio is playing. In fact, one of the fixes I have heard suggests playing a "silent" track.

just to clarify, I have a 2.33 MPB, not SR

it's always there! If you play a track as silent as you can you'll notice the noise is still there!! (system volume only one bar up, iTunes as low as it gets so you still hear)

it sucks! It is a magnitude louder than on any other device I have hear, including the prior C2D 2,16GHz MBP!

Wow, considering how many people posted in that thread linked, there are a ton of people here saying they have none!

I have it, but it's REALLY quiet, and while it may be playing when music is playing, it's so quiet I couldn't possibly hear it with music on. The only reason I even noticed it was when I had my headphones in with music on pause and I clicked something. A very faint background buzzy sound came on with the click noise, and stayed on for a bit longer, then turned off to complete silence again.

I believe this was before my upgrade to 10.4.10 since I only did that the night before last, but I can't swear on that.

I'm fairly sure everybody has the same noise level here. It all depends on what speakers you use!

If you use external speakers or a big headset you'll probably never notice!

I use low impedance earplugs (Etymotic ER4P). The static is very very obvious here no matter the volume level! (of course just listen to nothing to really realize how loud it is!)

Downgrade to 10.4.9 and you'll be fine. If you're having wireless dropouts, those will disappear too.

I think this is correct. As others have noted, I began to notice some static while there is an audio signal going to the speakers but while it is a silent track. As soon as something opens the sound device but doesn't output audio, you can hear a bit of noise. This was NOT the case before the update.

I read somewhere that this is part of Apple's 'marketing strategy,' to encourage people to upgrade to Leopard. It's been a few weeks and Apple has neglected to address any of the issues brought on by 10.4.10, which has seemingly caused a lot more problems than any updates in the past, at least more consistent, widespread ones.

Weren't there a lot of problems with the 10.3.9 update, before Tiger? :confused:

I've applied the update, and the static is still there. So you guys that claim not to have it are using earbud headphones, right? Not speakers?

Has anyone who has heard it on their machine gone to the Apple store and found one where they couldn't hear it? I'm just about ready to send thing thing in for repair, because its REALLY annoying, but not if they won't fix it.
