Apple DVD Player [Archive] - MacRumors Forums

I'm having major problems with the Apple DVD Player in OS X. I've got the latest G4, but for some reason I cannot watch a DVD in OS X. The only way I can get past this is to boot up in OS 9. I put the DVD disk in & nothing happens, it doesn't even know what it is in Toast.

Has anyone else had or having this problem?

Try another DVD player for the Mac called VLC from www.videolan.org .It is free and allows you to play DVDs from any country.

I know that after 5 region changes, the Mac DVD player is blocked and can only read DVDs from the last region you used. Does VLC allow you to bypass the 5 changes, does it make the Mac DVD drive a region-free drive?

It bypasses the region checking part of Mac OS X and your DVD drive.
