I actually don't know of any app that does what CoverSutra does that does it for free. There are numerous that do something kind of similar to CoverSutra -- like ByteController (http://bytetastic.com/) (for controlling iTunes) + Growl (http://growl.info) (to display artwork) and a slew of others -- but none of them will display the artwork as beautifully as CoverSutra does.

CoverSutra is nice, but if you don't mind not having that silly floating window, and you don't want to pay, just get the following:

1. The Yahoo! Widget Engine (free, and with thousands of widgets, many of which are quite beautiful and useful)

2. This widget (http://widgets.yahoo.com/gallery/view.php?widget=33155) for displaying the artwork in a jewel case...

3. And my personal favorite and the only iTunes controller I will ever use, iMote (http://www.mkd.cc/imote/). Coupled with Growl notifications, it's really quite nice. Really iMote could be replaced with any other iTunes controller that supports hotkeys but it's the only one I know of that supports Growl. I use the "Music Video" display type, and it's beautiful. Hit Ctrl-Right for next song, and a little music-video type scroller with artwork slides up from the bottom of the screen, announcing all the informaiton, and then it slides back down within a few seconds. Don't need anything else. Oh yeah, and it's free. See attached file.

Edit: Interesting tidbit, the Chinese government blocks the CoverSutra site, probably because it has the word "sutra" in it? :)

Edit 2: Okay I was wrong, since http://www.kamasutra.com works. O_O Weird.

Very good eyes. :)
I used CandyBar for the icons, and ClearDock for the background. The dock spacers are part of the Albook icon set.

OK, I am having a brainless moment right now. I downloaded the icon set from deviantart, and it is in .ip format. Candybar can't open it, and I can't find anything else. I want to replace my dock icons. Any advice?

I wouldn't get the set from deviantart. Here is the link I would use:

http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/artists.php?id=410

Scroll down to the Albook section, and get the icons from that.

You should be able to open up Candybar, drag the icons onto the right programs, and off you go.

I have it on my computer at home. If the OP doesn't get back to you first I'll send you a PM with an attachment.

The pic is surrounded by a black background. You could probably cut out the image itself, and paste it into a photoshop document with a black background and it would look exactly the same.

Get the icons from here (http://lbaumann.com/) instead....that'll probably give them to you a format you can actually use.

Hm, I'm using fairly "stock" icons, but when I do fancy a change, I like seeing what pixelgirlpresents (http://pixelgirlpresents.com/) has. (Geeze, shows how long since I last went there, things look a bit different and they have iPhone wallpapers, now, too. :p)

Wow very nice,
by "on rotate" do you mean, that with a mac you can have the desktop, basically, set to random?? so every time you turn it on, or wake it up it will change?? that's pretty cool

You can choose to have the desktop change on a given schedule. 5 minutes, 30 minutes, every hour, etc. Is this not possible in Windows?

I've not had a different wallpaper from the standard Apple ones for some time now, but after getting a new camera, getting into photography and taking some shots while on holiday I thought I'd start using my own photographs as wallpaper again.

This one is taken while on holiday in Weymouth, UK of a sunset. It's not my best sunset picture I took, but I like it.

I would normally have 20-odd small "photodesktop" photos going all the way around my desktop of my friends and family (I'm going to London soon so wanted pics of everyone on my desktop) but being as I didn't want to paste those photos here, I temporarily disabled Photodesktop for this screenshot.

How did you get your dock and top tool bar to look like leopard?

by using leopard. look in the upper right, at the spotlight icon... it's not the 10.4 icon.

It isn't leopard. Look at the dock. It extends over the ammount of icons he has and there is no "mirror" on it.

....ok, I'll bite. How'd you do that? A link please?

I took the simple way out. It's just a GUI modification using Style XP, Object Dock, and Paint Shop Pro. Once you get Style XP go pick up the Tiger theme from interfacelift.com. Get object dock, get a Mac icon package anywhere. Stick all that together. Last but not least find your favourite Mac wallpaper (I like Panther's) and then in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop apply a gaussian blur effect on a black line along the top of the image to give the impression of a taskbar shadow (since Windows taskbars don't cast shadows). If you want to give it that extra Mac touch then go to the control panel and pick the black Windows mouse cursor. So to recap:

1. Get Style XP and Tiger theme for XP (www.interfacelift.com)
2. Get Object Dock and Mac Icons (www.stardock.com)
3. Find a Mac wallpaper and paint the shadow on
4. Change your cursor

There you go. A sad Mac-wannabe PC. =) I've had it like this for a year. I'm getting my Macbook in 2 days and I'll be glad to have the real thing, but the imitation sure makes XP look a lot better.

No, you're talking about different pics, but more than that JDT's Finder is the Tiger version of the Finder....so he's definitely NOT running Leopard. Plus, the Dock is all wrong (not just the reflection).

I would normally have 20-odd small "photodesktop" photos going all the way around my desktop of my friends and family (I'm going to London soon so wanted pics of everyone on my desktop) but being as I didn't want to paste those photos here, I temporarily disabled Photodesktop for this screenshot.

It's an app you download from alwin troost here:

It's pretty good. I used to just have 4 or 5 along the bottom, now I have loads.

I've attached another quick desktop to show what it looks like using some other random photos I took.

To turn it on and off simply click on the PhotoDesktop icon in the menubar and untick "Activate PhotoDesktop".

It is MenuCalendarClock, basically lets you bring a quick drop-down of this months calendar and jump straight to dates, very handy. Linux already has it, I really can't understand why this isn't a feature of iCal, but this little program is worth it.

To be honest yes it will a little. But I don't actually notice it. If I deactivated it all and ran my Mac normal I'd doubt I'd really notice better performance, which is why they are still active. Anything that starts to slow my computers down I take off.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the iMac, handles things like that brilliantly and doesn't flinch, its only 2Gb RAM so nothing too spectacular.

My PowerBook didn't do too bad either, though it eventually started to show some slight memory hogginess, but still not too bad.

What is that Adium style and how do you make it so it aligns to the bottom of the screen without it expanding down below the screen?

Just a custom one I made, it's called Floating Downwind (as is the color scheme). I can share it if you like. And if you drag the contact list down to that corner, it actually auto-figures it outit will expand up instead of down, no option tick necessary.

At least I think so. I've had it there so long that I really don't remember. :o
