I am a mac user. I own a business based entirely on macs in the entertainment industry. Much of my professional success is due to Apple products. I work with technology every day, and I am well aware that first gen products pretty much suck big time.

I have waited 3 years to update my iPod for the "rumored" touch screen iPod. Well here it is in a phone form. I was as skeptical as many other people (mac users and not) about the iPhone's capabilities, shortcomings and whatever else you and I thought about handing $648 for it..

I have thought about it -before launch day- for 2 weeks - going back and forth whether I should get it or not. I hate 1st generation technology for the obvious reasons. And for this phone my biggest concern was EDGE. Well, yesterday on launch evening, I decided to say "****** it" and went to get it.

I was one of the first people to sign up for DSL when it became available in the mid 90's (even though at the time I was a kid and just made minimum wage). So to have a device like this in my hand at slower than today's speed after 10 years of high speed internet does not bother me a bit (after testing the phone of course).

I am blown away! Every freaking detail I can possibly think of has been taken care of. There is room for improvement, of course, but I can't say anything bad about this device. I love it!!! I would never go back. And as far as EDGE, I can totally live with the speed of it. It's not DSL or 3G but we can't expect a handheld computer to act like a desktop. EDGE on this phone is very bearable.

The iPhone is just like my first mac, one the best purchases I have made in life. I am not disappointed at all and can't really describe with words how happy I am to be alive and experienced so many huge steps in technology from Apple and every other company out there.

Today is a great f***ng happy day!!!!!

Reading posts like this makes me extremely excited to get my hands on mine! A friend of mine picked one up for me from the Mall of America Apple Store and I have to wait until tomorrow to get it!

I share your feelings. Went to the Apple Store today, and wow! I had doubts about spending $600 on a cell phone. But no longer. Using one is an experience that can't really be described with simple words IMO.

Xtoo, I'm glad we share the same sentiments - I love my iPhone, and it's just simply awesomely amazing (there isn't a perfect word to describe it, but these come somewhat close)! :D

Lots of concern about the slow EDGE network,... can anyone post real world web page loading times,.. like say from yahoo.com or wikipedia.com?

I was hyped up for it, and I feel a little down when I first strated playing.

However, I now see the light. It is *apple* after all! Just be fresh and not tired, when you judge it. It's simple, easy, and a lot of fun!

Edge is *perfect* for email and *so so* for using simple websites.

The EDGE speed is fairly slow. Not as bad as 56k, but still. The thing is, in this day and age, it's hard to be somewhere and NOT be within range of a wireless router, and on Wi-Fi it's blazing fast, so you'll be fine.

I like to think that I live on the bleeding edge of technology . I've owned a ton of great toys and this is the only one that feels distinctly different. I can't explain it but I'm so utterly blown away in every possible way it almost gets me emotional how incredible it is. Its like the device is so far ahead of its time that we just can't express how profoundly different the experience is.

If nothing else it is the coolest gadget that has been made to date. Even if it is not used as a phone most of the time. Infact this might be the first phone to be used solely for anything but a phone. LOL.

30+ hours into owning this thing, I completely agree with you guys, this is a phenomenal device. I know we kid about the RDF, but this really has lived up to the hype for me.

I kind of feel bad for the people that are still caught up in the few negatives and are therefore missing out on a great device!

No doubt the next one will be even better, but for right now this really makes my last couple of phones look absolutely pathetic.

Congrats to Apple for really knocking this one out of the park! No doubt this will spark major changes among the other phone makers. And probably a lot of shameless copying of the iPhone.

I just wanted to add that in day 2 I've graduated to two thumb typing. My last couple of posts have been from the phone.

And call quality and general utility as a phone today have been great.

Never have gotten the latest "thing" out before. But in the few hours since my iPhone got activated... all I can say is I am impressed. For me this is what a cell phone should have been all the long....

Only time will tell if my love of the iPhone will be the same a few months down the road.

I'm adding my name here to offset all the negative posts about it. I waited 6 months for this and was up till 4am messing around on it. I'm amazed at the web browsing, the smart interface, touchscreen, call quality, signal strength, wifi, and you know what, EDGE isn't as horrible as people make it out to be.

Anyway, glad to hear other users are enjoying it as well.
