I really am so tired of all the news and hype, but I can't help myself. I keep reading the stupid stories about the tiniest bit of second-hand information. And then when the reviews and user experience stories stopped, I can't seem to get enough.
My wife keeps saying that I've got issues. I'm starting to agree.

I'm really tired of the iPhone news, rumors and reviews.
1. iPhone is too expensive given the storage capacity. Flash prices going down will take care of this (I wouldn't mind paying 649$CAD if the iPhone had, say, 32GB of storage).
2. iPhone is not yet available in Canada (only a matter of time, however it seems Rogers are being slow in making a deal with Apple, according to local news).
3. iPhone will require a Rogers subscription (not good, see #4)
4. Rogers offers no coverage whatsoever in the area I'm moving to in a few weeks.
I can't wait until we see new Leopard, Macs (especially Mac mini or its replacement) and iPod rumors/news.

I was talking about the meaning of the word :p. It didn't show up when I did a dictionary search or a define: google search. And all the iPhone news stories have started to get annoying, but not nearly as annoying as all the posts about the iPhone when they were appearing in forum spy before I edited the preferences. (I will get the iPhone around next Saturday though)

That's a good idea, I think I'm going to have to adopt it. Not that I'm not interested in the iPhone, but there are just too many threads about it (as expected).
I was talking about the meaning of the word :p. It didn't show up when I did a dictionary search or a define: google search.
My first thought was that he meant gypped (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gypped), although I'm not sure if that makes any sense in this context.

Just goes to show how out of touch Al Qaeda has become. They used to be media manipulating experts now they drive trucks in to Glaswege airport. When it's obvious that even a small firecracker set off in the iPhone store would get more coverage.

It seems like over 1/3 of voters don't want to read more iPhone news.
Although this is the week of the iPhone's release and thus their desire seems hopeless, there actually IS a workaround: don't click articles that are about the iPhone.
Now, there's a tip for identifying exactly which headlines to avoid: they contain the word "iPhone." Now you know the secret to iPhone-free browsing :)
You can use the same tip to customize your web browsing in other ways. Click on topics and articles that interest you, and don't click on ones that don't. Soon you'll be in control of your OWN Internet experience!
Yes see where is reads "macrumors" in the URL. That's MACrumors not PHONErumors. Don't care about phones
Agreed. "MAC" discussion shouldn't include Cinema Displays, iBooks, AirPort, AppleTV, iPods, iPhone, iLife, iWork, Final Cut, iSight, Apple corporate happenings, or any 3rd-party stuff at all.
But for some reason, MacRumors chooses to include Mac-RELATED articles. I guess there's demand for that and MacRumors is just feeding people what interests them, but I think it's so wrong! So what if the iPhone runs OS X and does a lot to promote the Mac platform. It's only RELATED to Macs and usable WITH Macs and runs the same OS... it's not an ACTUAL Mac and should not be discussed!
I guess MacRumors is not the site for us :(

With Apple Computer, Inc. now being named too Apple, Inc. maybe it's time to rename macrumors to applerumors. Or is it still a macrumors since the iPhone is running OS X? That should quiet all the people sick of the iPhone rumors/stories.

Yes, I'm wondering what happened to Mac software and hardware. Maybe they don't make it anymore. :) IMHO there isn't enough merging/closing of threads. And now we're going to be bombarded with the inevitable "OMFG! What is this piece of **** I stood in line for three days for?" posts until gen 2 or 3 phones are released.
But then again, as someone said, I don't have to read the iPhone threads. So I'm cool. :)

Great new poll idea. How many people who got an iPhone are over-impressed, impressed, under-impressed, or have regrets? Now if they could make it available to vote only from an iPhone, we'd be set for a good, accurate poll that would really measure the "hype."
Otherwise, it seems odd that some people carry so much disdain for a device that they haven't even used. Sorta like, "I hate sushi, but I've never tried it."
P.S., I love my iPhone and I DO hate sushi.

At the current time, you have to scroll back at least 20 stories on the MacRumors front page to get to a non-iPhone-related entry (MacBook Pro software update I think). Talk about overkill...
I currently have minimal interest in the iPhone. Not only is it not coming out in Europe for a long time, but when it does it will be Vodafone (not the miles better O2 in my opinion) and it will likely be way more than £250 ($500) with 2 year contract that the US version costs - already too expensive! It may have 3G in Europe, but what phone doesn't and wow I'll be able to take Safari with me.
However, I know that it is all the rage at the moment in the US and everyone is excited about it. It's just a shame that Apple appears to even have forgotten about the iPod, which must have sickened Mac users at the time it began to get popular.
I don't blame MacRumors for all the coverage - it's the biggest and hottest thing around at the moment for you guys across the pond - and it's not as if there are any other rumours about at the moment...
I'm still waiting for iLife '07...
The iPhone hype will slowly die down, and Mac will be back soon.

Hmmm... seems like Arn's got this card up his sleeve if he needs it some day: www.applerumors.com/ (http://www.applerumors.com/). (I assume you know that, being a demi-god and all.)
I think what happened here is that Apple sold everyone on the iPhone, meaning people in the media are super excited about their new iPhone. Endgadget didn't pick up twelve iPhones just to get a statistical sample.

during iWeek was the dearth of coverage about Paris Hilton and her iPhone.
Notice how she got sprung from the Big House just before the iPhone was available. I've just got to know how the World's Greatest Person* likes her iPhone (or, if she didn't get one, why not?), what she does with it, and when will she, like white smoke coming from the chimney at the Vatican, pronounce it "hot?" C'mon, <airquotes>real journalists</airquotes>, do I have to do your job for you?!
*The World's Greatest Person is determined by the Greatness Quotient, which is:
(Media Attention)/Achievements
Paris is the first person since Baby Jessica, who fell down the well, to achieve infinitude on this scale.

I don't plan to buy one now, but I most likely will in the future. I like to keep track of the ups and downs, pluses and minuses, etc. of the iPhone in the real world (it was a phantom until last Friday) so I will know when a good time to jump in comes around. The week before the 40GB iPhone 2.0 comes out is NOT a good time to get in the game.

I think you're missing the point to an extent, from my understanding it's are you fed up with hearing constantly about the iPhone, not your impressions of the device you just bought. Save that for the right forum.
I started to get a bit annoyed about 1-2 weeks back when we were getting 6-7 iPhone stories hitting Page 1 every day. Even the number of bits of information didn't bother me so much, it was and is the trickling out of and fragmenting of information and stories related to it. One topic says "Reviews due this evening", another "Walt Mossberg Reviews iPhone" and the almost instantly after that we get "More iPhone reviews".
I know this is a once in a decade piece of news, but if this was any other brand new Apple device, I'm fairly certain at most we would get "MacSlab Reviews due today" and "Walt Mossberg Reviews MacSlab". The latter would then be edited to add as an update at the bottom "Other reviews can be found here, here and here". Not enough usage of merging stories and adding updates as there would ordinarily be for my liking.

This is sort of how I feel. I might get one when they finally become available in Canada but I really wish we'd hear more about some Mac desktops. I'd love to hear news/rumors about Mac Minis (other than those concerning its demise), iMacs, or affordable Mac Pros. (Was the quad-core behemoth the last desktop update?) On the other hand, a bombardment of iPhone stories is better than stagnation.

I'm at the tipping point, myself.
It was cool learning about all the breaking news, and whatnot, but now that it's here and I've played with one, I'm done. No more iPhone news needed.
The worst part is going to be the unending flash ads for free iPhones.
As for this site, I'm ready to see more Mac news again.

I think the Minis are some of the best ideas of Apple. They're just WAY overpriced them. Once you add a monitor it (say 23 inch) it (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6474002/wo/K82m0kXP6amc2WdEsjz1oVCVMEa/3.?p=0) comes out as much as the iMac (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6474002/wo/K82m0kXP6amc2WdEsjz1oVCVMEa/5.?p=0) but it still doesn't have the processor power, the hard drive space or the extra inch on the monitor. WTF Apple?
That would be my next purchase except for the pricing problem.

Middle ground here: I don't mind the iPhone coverage, but I wouldn't mind seeing some more updates on Leopard, iMac, and the Mac Mini. The iPhone looks like a terrific product, but I'm already a Verizon customer, so I will have to wait another six months. Still, it is good to sit on the sidelines, watch AT&T and Apple work out the kinks, and by Christmas, I am there.
In the meantime, I am sure there is other news about the Pro apps, Leopard, the iMac, and the Mini (maybe Mini Tower?) that could be discussed, too. :)

It is not mere hype if it is real news. This is real news. The depth and breadth of coverage is impressive and if you really don't care about iPhone, which I hear is actually possible, then the abundance of coverage does seem to supress Mac news. Except there was so much sensational Mac news after the release of C2D and Xeon, it was petered out, precisely to make room in the Apple machine for the release of iPhone. It has gone pretty smoothly considering everything. I am amused by the AT&T quote that they sold more iPhones in the first weekend than any other wireless device in their history. All sold out. One wonders if that was due to supply constraints or lack of faith.

I am the owner of a very famous phone.
My roommate treats me 100% different since i got this phone. She was never nice to me, and avoided me, never wanted to talk or look at me.
Now that I have the iPhone... no joke, she is nice to me. she smiles and treats me nicely... very strange.
I knew that when I upgraded from my poor old, 28 month old flip phone, that I was buying an iPhone as a MacBook owner who wanted a phone made for a Mac user.
And then Jobs made us a phone that is so friggin' pimpin...
If this phone got a fraction of the attention it has gotten, I'd still have bought it!!!
So all of the hype is really annoying to me as a very low key person who does not like much attention. Owning a 'famous' phone is an annoyance, really. Everybody wants to see the damn thing and it's really just my phone.

Way to resurrect :p
well the iPhone is a better device,
it offers
1. Edge (which is defiantly a plus, even though some would prefer 3G)
2. A kick ass phone (just the phone app and SMS) one of the best phones I have ever used
3. the ability to add calendar events
4. A camera
5. Widgets
6. Maps
7. Notes
8. mail
9. all in one!
Seriously, you have to carry a cell phone with you now days anyway.
I would buy the iPhone over again in a heartbeat over a touch!
