I'm on the search for some new speakers.
Mine are fine right now (these ones. (http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/02/72/42/64/0002724264388_215X215.jpg)) but I would like to free up some desk space.
I really like the set that ill0gical0ne has, and have seen many things similar to them.

Any suggestions in the $100-250 price range? :)

I don't really like the 'stick' speakers.
More the box type.

If you might be willing to put out a little more money... check out the Bose Companion 3. They sound great :)

It depends how much the ones I have right now sell for.
I don't know how much I want for them though. :o
Those Bose's are ok, I don't need something that small, I just need to get rid of mine because the speakers have to run through CD/Cassette/Radio box, and it's quite big.

I would have recommended the Companion 5 speakers, but might be more than you want to spend. They are fantastic in my opinion. I plan to buy them myself, at some point :D

would the JBL creatures 2.1 not be good? I was thinking of buying these for a macbook.
Retail at £50 ($100)

They would be fine, except I would like something bigger.
I've got about a 6 foot desk, with nothing on it but a 17" iMac and those Sony Speakers.

I picked up a pair of Harman/Kardon SoundSticks on the cheap and I have to say they are the best speakers I've ever purchased, very happy with them.
EDIT: Didn't see until after I posted that you don't like sticks, sorry.

Yeah, the SoundSticks are nice, but I don't really need a whole lot more desk space.
Thanks for the ideas, keep 'em coming! :)

Anyway, I myself plan on getting AudioEngine's AP5. www.audioengine.com - every review I've read says they have astounding audio quality. They are marketed as iPod speakers, but they are far more. Check em out. $300-350 (depending on where you look)
I'd consider these to be better than 'computer speakers'
Also: Howis the Rokit? How's the sound and volume? I was looking at KRK's RP5, myself. Did they come with the necessary cables or did you have to buy them separately? edit: my bad, I didn't read your whole post
