On the Apple pages outlining the specifications etc for Final Cut Express, in a PDF file entitled "Final Cut Express HD 3.5 Qualified Devices", there are listed a number of camcorders all of which either use a Protocol of Firewire or Firewire Basic. I am hoping to move up shortly to FCE and wondered, as the camcorder I have is a Canon MVX460 (Elura 100):

1) What the difference was between Firewire and Firewire Basic
2) Whether the functionality of either FCE or the camcorder would be compromised because the MVX460 is only listed as being Firewire Basic

Thanks for any comments.

hogmog - unsure whether this will help - but, I have the Elura 100 and use it all the time with FCE with no issues. I've done several final productions and the interface between the camera and FCE have worked well.

Hope this helps
