I just noticed this topic, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a longtime journalist and mac enthusiast living in British Columbia. I also do a lot of reading and tai chi. If you're interested in freeware, check out my sig. It's done with the Textpattern CMS — another hobby of mine.

Hi,
My name's Aaron. I switched to macs in 2002 and haven't looked back since. I live in Chapel Hill, NC, and...at 3 pm today, I received a phone call from the person who interviewed me for the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. I'm going to be starting med school in the fall, and I am absolutely on cloud nine right now!

Hello, I'm vid1987. i signed up here about a month ago since i got my new Intel Core Duo iMac (which is a great computer). i just haven't got around to posting. I am a 18 year old (male) C/C++ programmer and i'm learning OpenGL for making games. And i'm also getting into independent filmmaking. I guess the reason why i don't post often is because i don't fit in with most computer nerds. mainly because i'm a Spiritualist antisexual and a lot of forums i've been on before people just laugh at me. I just sit at my computer screen thinking of cool ideas for projects... either i'm coding, writing film scripts, or even composing music on my Yamaha piano..

Ok, that was my introduction.. now you all know a bit about me. I'm making another post right now in the "Market Place" section.

EDIT
Ok, nevermind, can't post there..

Peace

Hello everyone :D

My name's Ben, I live in the UK, and my very first Mac (the new mini) is on it's way to me as I speak. Well, it's most likely languishing in a depot somewhere, but you know what I mean.

I know how seriously a lot of Mac users take their Apple wares. I've been watching a lot of the old keynotes (currently watching Paris 2004, no Steve, boo hoo) and my understanding of the culture associated with Apple has grown considerably. What a company! The 1984 video was, well, interesting - I'm certainly glad to be coming to you in 2006 after so much change and innovation has already taken place, though regret somewhat missing out on all the excitement as I struggled with Windows 95-XP. I'll still be a Windows user indefinitely, but I should have explored the only credible alternative, OS X, a long time ago.

I'm not doing this by halves, so I'm going to try and replace the Sony LCD TV in my room with the 23" ACD, Intel mini Core Duo with 2GB RAM, Soundsticks & EyeTV. It's been a long time since I've shared my room with a computer, and the mini will no doubt be a quiet and unobtrusive solution for networked audio, video and net use.

I found Macrumors after promising myself that I'd buy my first Mac when the Intel mini arrived. Knowing that an Intel mini was rumoured for the 28th Feb kept me coming back, and I watched the text version of the announcement thanks to this site. Once I'd placed my order I just had to register to talk to all you wonderful people about everything Mac!

Thanks for having me!

Hello to all,

I have only been using mac for about a year now, and I really enjoy them. I have been getting into video, and photo editing with my iMac G5. I have not totally switched over to mac, as I still have my Dell 700m for work trips. The forums look exciting, and alot of activity going on. I hope to put my 2 cents in, and learn from the more seasoned members.

I work for a large Roofing Manufacturing Company in the Engineering Department. I am into electronics. I have 2 iPods, a psp, a digital camera.

If there is anything I have missed, feel free to message me and ask.

Thank you

Made my first screw-up and started my very own "look at me" thread without seeing this one first. Sorry. :p

To wit:

So, I'm new to this discussion forum (no stranger to forums, however) and relatively new to the Mac.

I just recently bought the new iMac (Intel 20") and have been really happy (with a [very] few minor complaints- which, I may add, still remain unresolved-- another subject for another section of this board, I suppose).

I just wanted to pop in quickly and introduce myself. I've always found it good practice to jump in on the "off-topic," if you will, forum and say hello before I go about asking stupid questions in the other sections of the board. My hope is kindness lends to forgiveness.

Like I said... I'm new to the Mac experience.

hello, I just purchased my 1st mac (1st laptop) in October, (PB G4, 1.67gh,100G). I've been very happy, just like all of the mac users I work with told me.

I am going to Austrailia next week, and I was wondering what, if anything, I may need to do for my PB to function over there. I know this is the newbie page, but I'm sure someone can enlighten me!:)

Hallo, I'm Steve and I'm not an alcoholic, some may spot my user name of stebu from elsewhere.
Although I'm not a new member, this is the first serious post from me. I confess I spent ages on Spymac and returned here after yet another shutdown. I wonder what took me so long as I was fed up with posts about favourite colours and what was had for breakfast.
So, after noting the more intelligent threads on macrumors, I'll be hanging out here for a while.

My first introduction to apple products was the ipod, which I bought 2 years ago and LOVED it and ever since then contemplated buying an apple computer. After having had enough of my dell freezing and crashing on me these past few weeks (I have no idea what is wrong with it but it's made me want to throw it out the window.LOL):p I decided to check out apple.

yo, I've been reading these forums for close to two years now (I believe), but hadn't made the leap into registering until today. I just finished my freshman year of college, and now that my part time job has become fulltime for the duration of the summer, I've got quite a bit of free time whilst sitting behind a computer. Thought I'd join, say hello to everyone and stop leeching off the community without contributing something myself.

Anywho, my name is devin, I live in the suburbs just north of Dallas, and it looks like I'll be spending my summer working-days hanging around here and the NTAG forums.

On sites such as DDRFreak.com, bemanistyle.com, iLounge.com (when i posted), iOnMac.com (havnt for a year), TiVoCommunity.com (Died down since the happy hour section became crap) you might know me as tomo_kun, tomokun or whatever.

I have been a mac OWNER for just over a year now, however my first mac was the ones in the classroom in 1st grade. Ever since before then even, those damn mac infomercials got to me ^^;;.

Im 15 and living in Wisconsin. Ive been playing Music games for a long time. When I was ten I started playing DanceDanceRevolution in 2001. In my opinion it is the easiest music game created, however it is still a lot of fun. I enjoy playing beatmaniaIIDX (Japan please, none of this US port stuff), InTheGroove, pump it Up, Pop'N Music etc. And my favorite music game, ParaParaParadise. I ParaPara so a videogame that has some of the most popular, yet kinda old routines, is still a lot of fun.

Ive been reading macrumors for a long time, and that bathroom store post made me want to join in!

Hello beautiful Mac users!

My name is Sheriff, and I'll be scoping out this place in the next couple of days.

I'm currently running a 12-inch 1.0 Ghz iBook G4 768 MB RAM.

Looking forward to getting a new Macbook or MBP, but I want to wait until I know exactly what I'm getting and why. It looks like it may be smart to wait a bit...

Anywho, looks like a great forum with some really smart people here. I'm looking forward to learning lots about macs... and maybe even becoming a mac expert.

hello…

i look forward to a pleasant experience among you guys and gals too…

i am on a 1400c soon to buy a MB waiting for the inevitable shakeout…

having read that august might be a time when new things might happen my plan is to wait until then to make the purchase in the meantime i have to get up to speed on OS X and get back into the poweruser mode including hardware and software options…

i retired Army in Hawaii in the early 80's and due to some health issues have kept a pretty low profile after getting a BS in CS and a BA in Math and Written Communication thanks to the VA programs available to disabled veterans…

my first Mac was the first Macintosh a 128 if i remember right and i pretty much had every Mac as it came out up to a SE30 because at the time the educational discount was considerably more significant back in the day…

i have busied myself with proofing and editing other's writing for the last 20 years or so and i have lost my edge… i considered myself a poweruser but that is certainly no longer the case although i am enthused about the new things i am going to have to learn moving to OS X and the MacBook…

i hope i can contribute to this site i know i am going to profit from my participation…

anyway thanks in advance for what i am sure will be a chance to learn a lot…

i cant wait to see what this post is going to look like…

Ahh, well new member to the forums. Maybe some of you know me from mac-forums.com . My first mac was an iBook G4 with a bad HD. Put a new one in and loaded linux on it. WHen I go to buy Tiger for it, I find the Combo drive is messed up, so I can buy a new drive and wait to get Tiger, or trade my laptop. So I traded for a perfect iBook G3 500 12 inch. Should be coming in the mail today or tomorrow and I am quite excited to finally make the switch completely.

I bought a MacBook as a gift to myself on my birthday since I have been interested in buying one for some time but lacked the resources to upgrade to Pro. Until recently I had been using a DELL Dimension PC. If you have any experience with those, you can imagine my joy at the fact that, six days later, it still hasn't had a total system wipe.

I've been frequenting this site from afar for some time, and today I became interested enough to join. So hello, I suppose.

Hi my name's Jasper Byrne, I am a Mac user of four years or so. My computer life started with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k, then I progressed to the Commodore Amiga, which was my great love up until its death in around '94. My next purchase was a Pentium MMX 166, which got upgraded over several years until it bacame a PIII 333, at which point Apple bought Logic Audio, my software of choice, and I had to switch. However I didn't regret it... I have to say I never liked pre-OSX MacOS, but once I found myself sucked into OSX, I just couldn't suffer Windows anymore!

I use computers for just about everything, I'm a professional musician / producer / DJ, and I also do the graphic design for my two record labels, using Adobe soft and 3DS Max. I am a keen photographer and use my Apple for this also. I also love to program, sort of as a hobby (I took a degree in it) - I released my first commercial game aged 18 in 1994 on the Amiga called 'Keith's Quest' (look for it free online and run it under UAE, the Amiga emulator!)

My music artist-name is Sonic, you can check out my myspace page if you like - www.myspace.com/sonicspace - I've sold a lot of records thanks to my Titanium PB G4 1Ghz!

Anyway, thanks for welcoming into the MR community.

Living near and working in Edinburgh, Bonnie Scotland.

About to change over to mac gear from PC/Cubase. Glad I looked in as I'll probably hang off until after imac update/upgrade.

Just got to say I really like the breadth of debate on this site, it's got it all and just a little more for good measure.

I'm off to debate/argue/maybe even agree elsewhere.

Or maybe I just found a new home!

Got my first Mac a few months ago and now really into all things Apple!

I even watched the WWDC video, all of it, right the way thro, with no breaks!

Does that make me a bad person?

I do have a Parallels habit I think I should declare!

I've been reading this amazing site for years. I'm am a complete convert 5 years running. I saw the Powermac G3 years ago and knew macs were something special. I work in video and film production and my career is having a good start.

Any ichatters out there? I could use some more mac buddies on my list. Most of my friends use AIM.

What can I say? Been lurking for a few days. Very useful site and will continue to lurk. Will ask for help here if I need it as there seems to be very knowledgeable (is that how it's spelt?) people hanging around here.

I thought I had managed to have a little picture thinggy in my profile. Will try again. :(

Just seeked and found. You can't have an avatar without a minimum number of posts. Right, got my beer chilling, off now!!!

hey, I'm a brand new member. I own an ibook g3, but my high school provides all its students with ibook g4s (and maybe macbooks this year). At the moment though, g3 ibook took a shower by accident and now refuses to start. It's all apart on my desk with a hair dryer and one of those cans of compressed air next to it.

...just awesome...

Hey,

I've just joined up and am (almost) a complete newb when it comes to Macs, though I am learning slowly :) I'm a 17 year old college student and I'm just beginning to start learning some web editing script (basics of html pretty much mastered) and I'm interested in starting to develop using xcode and such.

At the moment I'm playing with an iMac G3 333Mhz Rev.D but I am intending to invest in a Macbook as soon as possible.

Any tips for a (almost) newb would be very handy and much appreciated!

Hi, im interested in macs. I have been a pc user all my life. Im ready to switch. Ive been looking at the MBP's for awhile now. Im waiting for the merom update. Ive been a macrumors reader now for a few months. I would purchase a MBP right now but all the problems with them has made me wait for a fix. Macs are more expensive than pc's and i want to make sure that it is worth it. All my friends have macs and they rave about them. Im not so sold on them yet.Any pros or cons on gettin a Mac rather than another pc notebook? I know that macs have heat related issues which i havent heard of in the pc world. Also random shutdowns which also isnt a pc issue. Are they going to fix this or am i gonna spend 2K on something that is going to constantly have problems? Mostly every thread on macs say that on tuesday, the updates for the MB and MBP are coming, but.......its always next tuesday. How many more tuesdays before we actually see something? Anyways, if anyone has some advice on why i should switch to macs or stay with pc, let me know. Im neutral.

I'm brand spankin' new here at MacRumors, and pretty new to Macs in general!

I needed a new laptop, and finally broke down and made the switch - bought a MacBook.

So far I love it, and from browsing the site/forums here this looks like a great place to help me get the most outta my Mac!

Hi all.

Im new to MacRumors, I only started regularly visiting MR a few weeks ago though I've been a Mac user for over a year now. I love how my Mac just works, I've never had a single problem with it, it makes me wonder how I coped under the many years of Microsoft Reigime. Microsoft isnt all bad though...can be quite pleasant to use if you are VERY careful with it:)

Im a 2nd yr Mech Engineering student at UCL in London, my interests are mainly in anything to do with business, cars and gadgets.

Hi everyone, I have read the posts on htis site a few times and thought it might be worth registering. I have never ever had an imac or mac before, but I love Apple, and I have the iPod with video 5.0 gen 30Gb. After having this for a while, I have decided to give M$ Window$ the boot once and for all, kiss goodbye to spy/ad/malware and horrible worms (who likes worms anyway?! Certainly not moi!).

I shall be getting the 20" imac and adding some good speakers to it, possibly a TV transmitter thing and another monitor (dell). My budget doesn't allow for the 24" with customizations unfortunately. I hope to add 3 Gigs of RAM and the 256 megs video graphics card and the 500gig hard dive. I can't wait one bit! :p

So thats me introduced! I'm sure I will enjoy visiting these forums:D

Hi all,

joined recently after I came across this site after I googled 'mac' + 'rumor'. I had no idea, lol. Can't believe how many people are members here, the mac community is really strong. Anyway, don't have a mac yet, but my friend has lent me her macbook for a few weeks to convince me to make the switch. OK, so it has worked, once Leopard is released I'll be getting the 17" MBP.

I'm from the UK originally but live in Japan currently and I work as an astrophysicist, conducting work on gamma-ray bursters.

See you around, :)

Sup my mac community! I am 21 and been a mac user for about a year and a half and love it! The “straw that finally broke the camels back” was when I was running ProTools on a pc laptop (I still have nightmares!) ? I converted and never looked back! I disliked that pc so much I traded the pc laptop ($1000) for a used ipod ($250.)
I grew up in Nashville, TN and moved to TX to finish up school.
I’ve been in music my whole life and been doing audio recording stuff for about 2 years and have recently started video/ video editing (nothing big, so far stuff for my church, my college, weddings, and recently asked to do a training video for a small business.)
Video has been “a whole new world” (Aladdin music playing in the back ground.)
I actually stumbled across MacRumors while Googleing “digital video camera suggestions,” checked it out and quickly became a member once I saw that it wasn’t a bunch of no life geeks, but actually very knowledgeable pros! I was like “SCORE!” The first day I spent over 2 hours reading the video forum about HD and SD and actually learned a lot! The great thing is when the pros take time to answer a newbie’s question. MacRumors is very cool.

Hellos to everyone.

My name is Kat, 28, austin tx.
My first computer ever was an Apple IIC back in the dark ages....
I worked on macs in highschool for newspaper, and that was about it until about a year and a half ago.
I work on a 20 inch Imac and I love it...I will be purchasing a 17 inch Imac for my boyfriend this Christmas, along with a Nano even though he says he does not need one.
I can't survive without my 5gen Ipod...and once he gets a nano, he will not believe how he got along without one all this time.
I am a fan of this forum, thanks for all the information!

Hi guys I am new to the MacRumors community. I just purchased my first apple laptop -- a Macbook Bro C2D (entry level) and I love it!

My first computer was a Commodore 64 and then a Mac. I used that till I got my first PC and didn't look back till a few years ago when I purchased 2 PowerMac G4s for my design studio, but that was short lived when I picked up four PC powerhouses for the studio. For my recent purchase I decided to pickup a 15.4 MBP and I love it!.

I hope with this newly renewed love for macs I will utilize the 2 macs in the studio and purchase more systems.

Just registered and I'm new to all things mac.

I'm 44, married, 1 son - 16 years old, live in Texas, and have been using windows for, well, ever. Got tired of the constant maintenance for the household and I am looking for greener pastures.

I got a MacPro - it was delivered last Friday. 3ghz quad processor, 2gig ram, 500gig hard drive, and a big ol 23" cinema display. It's pretty nice.

Still learning the interface. So far, so good. I'm a poweruser on windows, and it's a bit frustrating for me on the mac right now getting around on the keyboard with shortcuts. That will come with time, I'm sure.

I got the mac for a few reasons. Besides the win-maintenance woes, I'll be getting into some serious "home-owner" video editing next year. And, I write commercial plugins for a product called SketchUp that are cross platform (win and mac). Now, I can truly test my scripts on the mac and not just guess whether or not they will work. And, when mac users have problems, I can now actually "see" what they are seeing.

I'm looking foward to getting into some deeper mac programming with cocoa and xcode. And, I'm sure I'll dive into Applescript too - I'll probably do that first.

Good to be here. Todd

I've been a Mac user since 1988 when I bought a Mac SE (2 floppies, no hard drive). Using a MacBook Pro these days. Have always made my living supporting Windows and Unix computers but have always used the Mac at home.

Anyway, it's a fun and useful forum. Glad to be here.

Yo, I'm new here... but not new to Macintosh, or any other Apple products. I have a few Macs in my house. Well. Five. And an iPod etc... My dad works and owns a graphic design company in Liverpool, so there's a good 15 Macs that I can use in his studio... He just bought a 24" iMac, and fitted it out with a Gig of kingston... Runs WoW like ***** off a shovel. Anyway. Are there any Adobe Photoshop users among us? I'd like to get to know a few people (because I'm sure they'll agree, OSX is the best Operating System to run any imaging software) If you want to see any of my artwork, my deviantART page is:

C&C would be nice, though I appreciate this isn't an art forum as such.

Anyway, laters. (Does anyone else play WoW? I'm on "Daggerspine" Realm, my character's (well, current character's - I plan to go Bloodelf in January) name is: "Jessop". (Tauren Warrior).)

I just bought another mac. It should be here tomorrow. I had a TiBook back when I was finishing up school but ended up selling it because I was broke.

I needed a winter hobby because all this snow has gotten me down, so I ordered a MacBook and will start learning and tweaking all over again.

In the summer, I like to hike, mtn bike, and golf, and the summer can't get here soon enough. For now, I'll tinker with my new toy.

Heya folks. I stumbled across MacRumors a week or two ago while doing a bit of research while trying to decide what, if any, Macintosh I should purchase.

I'm a Mac guy from way back when - my first computer was an Apple IIe, bought way back in 1986 or 1987 - but like a lot of other folks I felt obligated to migrate over to PCs. With my current PC on life-support, I decided I'd try Macintosh again, so here I am!

About me: I currently live near Iowa City, IA (home of the Unversity of Iowa for you Big 10 folks) and work as a customer service peon for ACT (yes, THAT ACT). I'm originally from the Chicago area (GO CUBS!) but moved out here to finish my "edumacation" and finding that I enjoy the quieter, more relaxed pace of life.

I'm enjoying the forums so far and looking forward to my new Mac.

Hey guys!

Finally got my MacBook Pro this morning. Spent all day playing around with it. Like Poseidon I am a mac user from way back... Although I was born in 86. I was using macs since I can remember, i've got a picture of myself at about 5 years old, barely the height of a desk and im standing up playing on a mac classic.

Before I went to university I owned a iMac 233Mhz and then inherited my family's powermac g3 300mhz. Going into university my parents bought me a pc 2.8Ghz as a gift(slight difference in speeds of my previous mac). I've been using that for the last 3 years until now!!! I had some extra cash from a back loan so I decided to spend it on a little gift for myself :D . Haha, anyways enough chit chat and back to business. Glad to be back. I'm sure you'll all see me around from time to time.

If you want to see my setup checkout the thread Post Your Mac Setup: Past & Present! (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3371488&posted=1#post3371488)

Hi guys.. new here, not really new to macs.. My first was an LCII with like a 40MB hard drive and 4 meg of ram, then I moved to a powermac 6100 with a 486 card in it (I felt like i could rule the world with it) then a G3 notebook, then unfortunately macless for a few years until last weekend when I got my wife a new white 2.0 macbook.. I liked it soooo much I sold my Lenovo t-60 (which is a great machine that I cannot say enough good about) and am making a deal for another macbook from a member here :) Just thought I would say high and all that jazz...

Hi everybody!:)

I just joined last night. I have an iBook G4 14", I got it this past Christmas. I got it used from apple.com I've been really happy with it so far. It's my first Apple, but I'd been wanting to get an Apple for a while. For the past 3 or 4 years, my family has had Linux. Ever since we got Linux, I haven't liked Windows. I joined so I can learn more about Apples since I don't really know that much about them.

I really like animals, especially dogs and ducks. I'm in my freshman year of college.

joined a few weeks ago and am very impressed at the friendliness of this site, as I am on 7 other boards; sometimes people can be very rude, but I have seen a near total absence of that here.

not a professional in AV, although that was my training 20+ years ago but I do want to use video occasionally for professional purposes e.g. putting together a DVD (see my post elsewhere).

Hi, name is Christian. I joined last month, forgot to post in here. I was unsure if I wanted to commit to purchase a brand new iMac, so I picked up 2 old G4s and took the best parts from each to make one Mac. So far I'm loving it. I'm waiting to see what the new generation of iMacs will be, and will more than likely pull the trigger then on a new one.

Also, I don't mean to brag but I am a certified ninja.

...and so this is the standard 'about me'.

i do way too much stuff in school--I totally love singing and acting and making mistakes and having fun. my taste in music and other stuff is different compared to everyone else, but it doesn't matter a whole lot--everyone has a totally fabulous unique style and you like what you like, right? i work at feed and read (http://www.feedread.com/) (hell yeah) and try to fit friends, work, school, and tons of other crap into my life... it's all a ton of fun. i like photography, i suck at the piano, and i love meeting new people. if i don't reply to a comment, i might just need a reminder. i promise. my family always spends a few weeks in the summer at the jersey shore, it's totally awesome because we always stay at the same old hotel and do the same stuff... that kinda stuff makes you feel better, you know?

but about moi? hmm, where do i start? i guess i'm a pretty busy guy in school, i do all honors and AP, key club, show choir, debate, national history day, the musicals, honor guard, regular chorus, student forum, and plenty of other stuff...so i don't have much spare time. but when i do have time, i LOVE hanging out with my friends, going to the movies, going to coldstone (!!!), playing piano, photography, and just partyin'...hahaha. i'm gay, but i'm def. not femme. and i don't define myself as "gay", it's just one of the bunch of parts that make up my personality. i'm usually calm and collected, but other times i'm just totally spontaneous and crazy. people who know me well also mention that i'm open minded, tolerant, and willing to try new things and meet new people. there's nothing i get really upset about and i don't think i've ever been seriously mad... i'm actually a pretty mellow guy. so try me sometime. =]

Recently joined about a couple days ago, it's been great. Although I do not own a Mac myself.. I am sure planning on it. Just want to read up and learn about it more through this forum and possibly make a purchase soon or this summer. Cleveland native, Chicago newbie. My forum name is actually based on a full name that I use for rpg video games or what not; "Mordekai Baine" with "dekai b" strategically implemented in it. Hope to get to know a lot of you!

Hi there,
I'm Kiang, I'm Belgian and I'm waiting to buy my first Mac in September, So I guess it couldn't hurt to get a bit deeper in the mac-world by browsing some forums :)
Right now I'm using an XP system (and it sucks :p ), but I tried to use Linux a while ago. I guess Linux is nice, but you really have to do alot of work before you can personalize/ properly useyour system, so the next thing I will be using, is a Mac!
I really hope it is at least half as great as it seems in Steve's keynote presentations :p

MacBook Pro - I lud it. Wont be going back.

I'm also a bit of an Audio nut. Look forward to learning more about apple lossless, and I'm sure I can add to any music server or high end audio discussions. My main 2 channel rig:

Apr 24, 2007, 04:59 PM
Hello everyone, I am Cheesecake and I must say I can be very tasty if cooked and prepared just right. I go good with wine, I must say.

Anyways, I just recently purchased and am now the owner of a MacBook Pro 15". As a kid my elementary schools used to have what we called the 'Mac Lab', which was almost always up and everybody wanted to get in there to use it. This carried on through most of my life, where I always found myself wondering about getting a Mac because I was tired of the problems being a PC user gave me. I finally went for it, deciding that I had been tired of being stuck tethered to my computer chair if I wanted to do something on my computer.

I decided to go pro for several reasons.

1.) I like to work in all forms of multimedia. Audio, Video, and Photo mainly. I wanted the extra juice the Pro could offer so that I would be able to get more done, faster. So far, it's much faster than my PC. Comparison wise, i'll say that rendering a piece of HD footage on my Pro using Final Cut Express HD took around a minute, while the same footage took nearly 5 minutes using Sony Vegas on my desktop. Sadly, I paid $599 for Vegas while I paid only $99 for Final Cut. I decided to run it on my Windows partition via bootcamp, and it went from a 5 minute render to a 3 minute render. Still not as fast. I was very impressed.

2.) I wanted to have a bit more muscle for gaming on the go. I only play maybe 2 games online, but I wanted them to not look like the crap my home PC pushes out. I get the looks (60 frames a second flat on max settings in Counter-Strike Source) but performance isn't always the greatest. For instance, I have extreme slowdown problems when running Phantasy Star Universe and I have Refresh rate problems when playing Silent Hill 3. It's enough to detract from my experience quite a bit, considering that on my PC I don't have these problems.

3.) I liked the 15" screen better than the 13". The extra screen space is wonderful in both the Mac OS X environment and the Windows environment. It's not quite as 'portable', but I see the tradeoff as worth it.

Anyways, that's why i'm here saying hello to you fine folks.

EDIT: For some strange reason I am unable to create threads anywhere on any forum. What up with that?

Hiya. Discovered this thread because TheAnswer (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=3779) linked to it from another (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=299385), so thought I'd write and say hullo.

I bought a Mac Pro and switched to the Mac last September after over 20 years working with other operating systems (DOS, Win 3.1-XP, X Window, HP/UX, etc.). I joined MacRumors earlier this month.

Apr 24, 2007, 06:22 PM
Hey, I'm Matt (hence my forum name ^_^)

I've been using P.C's (and Windows) for my entire life, and have pretty much been brought up on them. In the U.K Mac's are even rarer than over there, from what I know.

I already made a post beforehand (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=299385) but I'm going to be switching to a Mac once my exams are over.

I'm choosing a Macbook because of a/ costs and b/ size. I'm going to University in a few months, and so a small, laptop that doesn't break down or need maintaining is a must for me. I like Vista, but it's just not the direction that needs to be taken, and Microsoft is now finding that having to be compatible with every single piece of hardware is proving to be a disadvantage when it comes to coding their OS's.

Anyway, I look forward to being part of a vibrant and artistic community, where we can have honest debates and acknowledge faults in OS X, and recognize positive points in Windows and Linux :-)

Peace out.

I joined after years of browsing (but only occassionally) partially to procrastinate writing my senior thesis for my last year as an undergraduate but also because I'm in the market to buy a new Mac. I don't usually join online communities, but I am a Mac Addict so I'm making an exception.

For me waiting (for Santa Rosa, Leopard, oder was auch immer) is a must, considering the fact that I haven't picked a job yet and moving out is more important than buying a new computer since my powerbook is still kicking.

I bought my first computer at 15, a Dell Latitude - which eventually ended up in 2 pieces (I dropped it). I worked as a web designer so I bought a powerbook the summer before I started college. I've worked with Macs since I was 15 and refuse to go back, although my future job might require a PC....

I joined after browsing in March for quite some time, as a friend of mine got a new Macbook and I've been REALLY impressed with it.

I do a lot of stuff with music and games, mostly, and would love to edit movies and photos and such more if the software wasn't so expensive. (Photoshop licenses ftl.) I play guitar, and am in a band, and we use an iMac with Protools as our main recording station.

I'm typing this on my PC, which has been great to me. I have nothing against PCs or users of PCs... Except Vista. I'm learning to program and like to work with computers (especially since my girlfriend is a software engineer by profession, she got me into it), and figured having both platforms would be nice. Also, the big package of software that comes with it is a nice bonus, and programs like Delicious Library are an OCD person's dream.

I've been reading a lot and posting some, and I'm waiting until the updates to buy a Macbook Pro. But I won't keep posting threads asking when it is!

Hi, I come from the old Apple IIe and later IIci days, which pretty much dates me ... Since then I've moved over to Windows and have worked in Technology for a long time. Now that Mac has gone Intel inside I'm looking to go back to Apple and see if the "it just works" slogan is true :)

Discovered this forum while researching what model Mac I should buy and found the member posts very friendly and informative. I do semi-pro photography so hoping to learn from other Mac users on how their Mac workflow compares to Windows. I'm not biased towards Mac or Windows but will choose whichever tool gives me the best and most efficient results.

Hi eveybody. I've been thinking about joining for a while and have finally done it. I'm unsure of what is to come, but I am finally with my sort of people. I am a recent switcher, and own a MacBook to pull me through until I get my MacBook Pro. I was going through Apple's website everyday until i got it, but before... I had no idea Apple existed! I remember wishing there was a better way, and then I discovered Apple. It was the best moment in my life to hear my Mac make it's little start up noise that first time. I will never, ever leave macs. I'm unsure of what to expect from here, but i think it's going to be fun.

Hello all. I've been a long time PC-user, but now I have been assured of the Mac's greatness. I will be getting a Black MacBook as soon as Santa Rosa comes around (I need the better graphics for Final Cut Express). I have looked at every single Mac intensely (except the Mini), and I feel that the MacBook is the best choice for me. Anyway, I've been following MacRumors since the Mac Pro came out, and I'm stuck with this PC, so I guess you could call me a compulsive procrastinator.

Computer-illiterate, that is. My husband is the computer nerd in our family. Then, in order of computer-savviness, the dog second, then last... me. DH is a big MacNerd and somehow, slowly, subversively managed to convert me to the Mac. Whoops, had no idea this thread existed. I've already made around 30 or so posts, but figured I should introduce myself.

My real name is not Morty, and I'm not a poopface (though, admittedly, not strikingly handsome either); the handle was an amalgam of a lack of any clever ideas and me coming up with a name to get a few cheap chuckles out of people (which more often than not fails).

I'm a graphic designer hopeful who currently works as a support tech for a software developer to pay the bills, and I'm also a current PC user who is fed up with Windows and looking to get a new/updated Macbook Pro. I'm looking at the 17" model at around 3 GB of RAM, and then getting Adobe CS3 Design Premium, and then update my portfolio and get a website up and running. I hate how 'in-the-way' Windows is, I think it's so much easier to work in an environment that let's you do your thing.

I was directed to this site from another forum when inquiring about getting a MBP, and was told I should wait because it's due for an update (and how!), and I've been checking it pretty much daily. The forum is pretty active too as I can tell.

I stumbled across this when I was looking for a high definition camera. I have owned multiple macs (my third). This is a great place to see ideas and here from people who are smarter than me at computers. I love my mac. I am glad I came back after a gateway and dell episode. I am in the military, currently deployed to Afghanistan. This is my 3d time around. I know many of you think the wars are bad, so I will keep my opinion to myself.
But no matter what, support the troops. Thanks to all those who helped me with my other posts.:D

I look forward to providing any non-expert opinions.

Hi name is Emma, but feel free to call me anything! I haven't used a Mac since the screen was black and the type was orange, granted I was about 7 and only used it for donkey kong! So... I may end up being a big question asker as I want to learn everything so Toshi and I can be bestest friends forever!
I spend 9 hours a day on a pc (which personally I think hates me!) and so when I get home all I want to do is sit and stare at Toshi and let him work his wonders, but apparently I need to help him a bit. Good luck to me!
Good to met you all... fellow Mac lovers! :)

I've been around here for a couple days but I'd forgotten to introduce myself.

I have been a mac addict for years, and have also followed macrumors, but never got involved in the forums for some reason.

Right now I have my trusty first generation Mac Mini, loaded with a 1 gb stick of ram, and just bought a new white macbook with 2 gb of ram. In the past I've had a Powerbook, older iBook, G5, iMac, emac, and probably some others I'm forgetting lol.

I actually worked at an apple store for quite a while, and loved it. I hope I can share some knowledge, and also learn some new things while I'm here!

Anyways, I've been using a Mac for nearly 3 years now (got an iBook before senior year of high sch).. and wow.. Well... I dunno what else to say about myself anymore... So..

Ah-ha! An Introduction thread!

Anywho, I'm DinnyHoon, a UK-based switcher in full time education. Sadly, my only Mac is a 1.83GHz Core Duo Macbook with 512MB RAM and a 60GB HDD. I've only owned it since October, so expect some of the most trivial questions you have ever heard.

I found the forum after searching for a long time for an active Mac community, and then realising that MacRumors had a forum all along.

Hoping to become an active member of the forum with a decent reputation. And no, I don't call Windows "W1ndBlowz!" or anything like that.

Heya I'm new here (obviously). I've been trying to find a good forum for macs and whatnot and I believe I found it :)

It was around spring of last year that I wanted to get a new computer because my Windows PC was crapping out (and had been for over a year). Looking for notebooks, I wanted to own the perfect one. The only one that ever stood out was the macbook. I loved its design, but I had been a windows user all my life and I didn't want to learn a whole new OS, and I was happy with windows, or so I thought. I started looking up info on Tiger, seeing demos, reviews, using it every time I went to the mall at our apple store, and digging deeper and deeper into it. I fell in love with it. That summer I worked a landscaping job and the circus was in town, so they asked me to help out and they would pay me. By the time August ended I had my macbook and OS X and I never looked back :)

Me and my friends are all pretty informed when it comes to technology, and they couldn't believe that I chose to ditch windows for this foreign piece of software. That same August, one of them caved in and bought an iMac, and another is right now saving up for a macbook pro. It's a sickness I tell you! :D

As for me, I'm seventeen years old of dominican descent and live in an urban city close to Boston. I love my Xbox 360 and Wii, listen to all different kinds of music so if you want to recommend something I'm all ears. I'm a pretty weird person I'd like to think. But being weird is good!

Jeez I write too damn much, here's to great discussions!

I'm so happy to have my first Mac PLUS this forum to get answers to all my silly former-PC addict questions, such as:

Why the hell can't I right-click?
How do I get this damn Macintosh HD icon off my desktop?!?!?
and, of course
What happened to my blue screen of death??!?!! It was sort of pretty.

Since those have all been answered, I'll have to think of some new ones!

Well in the hype of the iPhone I never got to introduce myself (is there a user introduction area on this site?) and just wanted to say this is my favorite mac related forum because of how active and fast the users respond.

Also im the guy who had a macbook cooking a egg thing a while ago, that was my macbook, the one im typing on right now. That wasn't me in the video that was my friend, I was the one recording, and even thought I stated it was fake in my blog post nobody read past the title and picture and people argued about if it as real or fake

Hi all,

I've been reading the forums for a while. Great place. Thanks all for contributing -- you make me believe in human progress :)

I'm a PhD student in the USA originally from Holland. Gotta love how a culture of property rights and entrepeneurialism combined with a common law protecting these beneficial traits provide a way for me to enjoy the fruits of human ingenuity at low cost.

I love the USA and the iPhone I will hopefully get on independence day.
I just saw Transformers.
I have a MacBook I call MacBook.
Still thinking about an original name for my iPhone.

Peace!

I've been at the forums for almost a month now, and just now found this thread. I was a PC user for all of my life. I always knew there were Macs, but I hadn't ever really used one in-depth. At the time, I was happy with PC's and stuck with them. My cousin had an iBook G3 and showed it to me. I really didn't know a thing about Macs at the time, but I was amazed at Mac OS X and the incredible design of the computer. I still was wary of Macs and didn't want to relearn how to use a computer. Around 2004, I moved to a new school with Macs. I learned more and more about Macs, but still stayed on the Windows side of the fence.

It was only earlier this year when I bought my brand new Compaq Presario that I made the big switch. I was very excited about this new laptop, and couldn't wait to unbox it. I turn it on only to be inundated by crapware. I make my way through the huge stampede of trialware, antivirus, and obnoxious full-screen apps nagging me to sign up for some ISP. It took me over an hour to uninstall all of the junk like Quicken, Norton Internet Security, Vongo, HP Sidebar, AOL, and all of the HP/Compaq bloatware. I finally removed everything except the OS itself. Everything is going great. Only 2 months after I get it, I drop my laptop about 2 feet. I wasn't too concerned, as it didn't fall a huge distance. When I power it on, my monitor is dead. I hooked it up to my desktop monitor to see if everything is working, and I couldn't get past the login screen. So, I boot into VGA mode, and got to my desktop. My screen is at some insane resolution, like 400x200. I set it to 1020x768, and I get the BSOD. I reboot, and now, it won't even boot. I sent it off to get fixed, and it came back fine, but I still got the BSOD. I ran CHKDISK only to have it delete several critical system files. Anyway, I gave it a fresh install of Windows XP. A couple months ago, I got Vista. It installed without a hitch. Then, there's the driver hunt. After an hour of fiddling with drivers, activation, and other crap, it's up and running. Now, it's time to install my software. Wonderful. Some of my software won't install. I'm getting attacked with pesky UAC messages. Sometimes, my system would just suddenly do a cold reboot. I had enough. Back to XP! But now, XP won't install! It failed to copy several files, and just gave up. After days of fiddling, I got it installed. A month ago, my graphics card started overheating and crashing my system. Just a couple days ago, my monitor's connection has come loose and the screen flickers when you move it. Sometimes, the screen just goes black!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I'm sick and tired of Windows and it's stupidity. I've had it with Microsoft's carelessness towards details. I've decided to switch. I'm getting a new iMac soon, and I'm going to replace that stupid laptop with a shiny new MacBook. My dad has even decided to switch.

I've gone Mac. I'm never going back. ;)

Salutations!

I was a Mac user long before I knew anything about computers. I used Apple IIs (of some sort) in my elementary school, used Performas in middle school (had one at home, a 6360), had a G3 in High School, and in college unfortunately I bought a Dell Dimension for cost reasons.

Worst. Decision. Ever.

After six years, my elderly Dell is beginning to exhibit computer Alzheimer's Disease, and has forgotten various things. For instance, I can no longer backspace in Word; I am forced to use the delete key only. This is the latest ulcer-inducing aggravation in a long history of obnoxious problems with my computer. Currently, it is only able to run Firefox and Word 2003 without gagging.

SO, I have migrated to my fiance's iBook G4 (also purchased as a replacement for an ailing Dell), and have recently acquired a used iMac G4. Frankly, they are the coolest looking computers I have ever seen. I intend the G4 to be pressed into service as an audio server connected to my stereo, with external HDs containing my 20,000+ music files. As a main machine, my father is selling me one of his 20" G5's from the office for a few bills.

I am glad to be here! I've learned a great deal as a lurker, and I look forward to contributing from time to time.

Cheers!

Hello everyone! Newish Mac user here, got my C2D iMac in November and have got to know it very quickly - I'll never go back. ;p

I've known about these forums for a little while but only realised how thriving they were. I'm a long member of the Gameplay forums, and am registered to AVForums but I wanted to join a more Macintosh-based forum. Looks like a nice community with a variety of topics.

I look forward to my stay. :)

Hello all,

Just joined from the UK. I've been an Apple fan for a few years now, ever since I first had a proper play around with my mates Macbook Pro. Unfortunately I've only ever got to use my friends machines thus far, but that should all change soon. Thankfully I'll be purchasing my first Mac (a new 20" iMac), in November for my Birthday!

I have a first gen iPod nano, so I'm not totally Appleless! Been using this site for several months now to keep up to date with the latest news, the feed sits at the top of FireFox as a LiveBookmark :)

I've finally joined as it's getting pretty close to my purchase and no doubt I'll have a few questions as I venture into the world of the macintosh!

Whatup, everyone...

I struggle a bit with volunteering unsolicited personal information, because I'm quite sure by now that nobody really gives a (you-know-what), so I guess I'll just say hi. I'm Kyle. Nice to meet you and stuff. I've enjoyed reading threads and posts on this site for a while now - not quite sure why it took me this long to register, but oh well. I'm here now, so it's cool.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Maybe I'll be able to trick y'all into thinking that I'm a tolerable human being for a while. ;)

EDIT: I guess I should add that I run a PowerMac G5 (2ghz dual core, 2Gig RAM, 500gb HDD, 2x23" Cinema Displays), a MacBook Pro (2ghz intel, 1Gig RAM, 100gb HDD), an 8gb iPhone and and 80gb iPod. Couldn't imagine my life without a single one of them, and I feel a strange compulsion to go out and buy the new iMac, even though I'm so far from needing it...

Hello everyone,

I'm ms.gio from Chicago. I've been using my iBook G4 for about two year and I love it. I was originally a PC user and since getting my iBook G4I prefer using Macs over everything else. Even at work I use a Mac, a Powermac G4. Regarding joining MacRumors, I've been told multiple times by a fellow member here (my boyfriend, Placeofdis) that I should register for I would gain valuable knowledge regarding Macs and Apple's products. I'm hoping to gain such knowledge and maybe make some friends along with way. Besides becoming an Apple user for life, I'm a 4th year Psychology student who is hoping to go to Graduate school to become a Clinical Psychologist. I'm also an avid cyclist and billiards player.

Ciao,
ms.gio

Not quite sure about which laptop to buy so I take myself a bit more time and hope to find some help here and meet nice people.

Hi Michael, I am from SD too. I couldn't hit your website and cutting and pasting won't work because it's truncated.

I have been a PC user for over 20 years. I was in the computer field and have worked on most OS's including mainframes. I'm now going to SDSU and performing a reformat on my life. I purchased the MBP for school but I also wanted to use it for my amateur photography.

I was able to get a great deal because of educational discounts but sadly my MBP has a yellowing problem at the bottom of the screen. I'll give Apple a call and see what they say. One of the discounts was getting Adobe CS3 Design Premium. It'll have to wait until I get this screen problem fixed.

So far my Mac has given me anticipation, excitement, happiness, fear, disappointment, sadness.

I'm currently a 10th grader in high school (will be 16 next month!) and I run Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Track. As you can see in my sig I'm in need of a new :apple: computer soon hopefully next month for my bday. I like music a lot (its funny cause I share a birthday with the iPod) and of course I love Macs. This is the greatest Apple rumors site on the web because of the community that has grown around it. I hope to be on these forums for a long time cause it is fun to talk with other Mac people.:)

Hello, My Name is Jessica and I'm from PA. I live near a city called Johnstown and I seriously don't think you can buy a Mac anywhere around here. Everyone is all about the PC. I joined not that long ago and have yet to post anything until today. I'm a very opinionated person but I'm very shy when it comes to jumping into things. The first Apple product I bought was a black 1gb ipod nano (which my brother now uses). I current have a white 30gb Ipod Video, that is slowly dying on me. The next iPod I plan on buying is either an ipod touch or a classic. I've always had an interest in Mac computers and other Apple products but I never really started hating windows until I bought my latest PC. It's a Compaq Presario Desktop and it the biggest Peice of Crap I've ever seen. I'm purchasing a MacBook sometime between January 08' and June 08' and I'm super excited. It's going to mainly be used for college, where I plan on Majoring in Graphic Design. Right now I'm going to a community college to take some of my gen eds.

I know a bit about Macs since I worked with them in elementary school and in my vocational training in Graphic Arts in high school. I know I don't know it all, which is why I am here. I'm hoping I can learn new things from all of you.

I'm Kim, and I've been lurking here for years but until now, didn't join. My first Mac was a clamshell iMac, grape natch. Then along came my G3 iBook and I'm now the proud owner of a MacBook Pro since November 2006. Oh, and I can't forget my 1st generation iPod which is still working as far as I know but it will be replaced with an iPhone when I get it later this week or next week. YAY!

When I'm not obsessing about my iPhone, I'm busy working on school since I'm a sophomore at Art Institute Online, getting my degree in Interactive Media Design. I'm currently living in Arizona, near Phoenix and I think that's about it!

Howdy Everyone!

I just wanted to post a quick hello. This is the first Apple/Mac forum I've ever joined... no specific reason to, just for "poops and giggles!"

I've been an Apple user since '84 (an Apple iic) and a dedicated Mac user going on 19 years since my first SE/30 (which still sits in it's own special spot in my office). I work as the Technology Director for a mid-sized non-profit organization by which I oversee a department of five other people and approximately 120 machines. Married, no children to my crazy, but gorgeous wife of 13 years - also a Mac-Head (albeit, a convert).

We're still a PowerPC-only household, as I've had neither the need, nor desire to make the switch to Intel. We have been making the transition at work for various Windows-related (egads!) purposes, my main machine at work is a monster 24" Core2 iMac - yet I feel somehow "empty" when using... even though I know it's all in my head. At home, my main machine is a final-run HR 1.67GHz PowerBook G4 with 2GBs of ram, running x.5.1 and x.4.11... my main desktop is a "Dually" 2GHz G5 PowerMac with 4GBs of ram, running the same. The wife runs a 1.3GHz 12" PowerBook with 1.25GBs of ram and a 1.8GHz 17" iMac G5 with 1.5GBs... both are running x.4.11 (she hasn't warmed up to Leopard yet).

My two main passions are cars and computers/technology.. I've been a member of a few different automotive forums over the years yet, as I said... I've never joined any Mac or any other computer-centric forums for whatever reason. I look forward to getting to know and talking with you all in the days/weeks/months to come.

See you all around the boards!

Hiya!

Been around Macs since the Mac SE.

At different times in my career, I've been "forced" into the PC world but have always come back to my trusted Macs.

I've owned at least four - such is the dilemma which brought me to this forum. For the last few years, I've been struggling to find a way to get a bunch of old files off my old Macs in some sort of electronic way so that I still have access to them now.

Hoping to find some good advice now and in the future as I know I'll need it again.

Thanks for being here.

I just joined a few days ago. I don't actually have a Mac yet, but I've got plans to order one within a month or so.

I'm one of those folks who has been using PCs for years, but would like to try something different. Also, there are all those typical reasons... like being tired of viruses and crashing. I believe I purchased my first computer around 1991. It was a Tandy that ran an interface called Deskmate. I believe it was a TRS-80, Model 200. Although 1991 doesn't sound that long ago I really felt like I was on the cutting edge just because I owned a laptop! :D Even though Bill Gates was already the third most wealthy man in America, and the Altair PC first hit the market over 15 years prior.... there was no widespread public access to the internet, and a 24KB RAM computer with a monochrome display would cost you over a thousand bucks. So maybe I was part of the first wave(?). I think the best thing about having the Tandy was that I had to learn a number of DOS commands and other tactile operations. It didn't make me a computer genius, but I had a leg up on alot of other folks who started with more user friendly GUIs. It was sort of like learning to drive a car by starting with a manual transmission. Alot of casual computer users just sort of see them as magical boxes. I can at least find my way around in Windows Explorer and do some mild troubleshooting.

I've owned a series of desktops and laptops since the Tandy. My family now has a boat load of them. None are very special; just your typical "off the rack" stuff.

Laptops:
Compaq Presario V5000 (mine)
HP Pavilion dv8000 (wife's)
HP Pavilion tx1000z (wife's #2)
three Dell Inspiron 1521 (the kids')
HP Pavilion zd7000 (a beater that the kids sometimes use as a soccer ball)
Compaq Presario v2000 (an old beast)

Family Desktop:
HP Pavilion m7690y

Printer:
HP Officejet 7410 (connected to the family wireless network)

So you can see that my home is sort of an old folks home for computers. I do sort of like my wife's tx1000z. Every now and then, I consider getting a tx2000z instead of a MacBook.

I guess what it boils down to is that we have one heck of alot of stuff! :D

Our only real foray into the world of Apple has been with iPods. The kids all have 4GB Nanos, the wife has a Shuffle, and I roll with a 60GB unit. I've been happy with my iPod, although I have not figured out how to transfer music backwards (from my iPod, back onto iTunes). I've screwed up at least twice, and managed to erase everything each time (it's probably a full weekend of work to burn all my CDs into iTunes). I tried to do this with a shareware program called Music Rescue, but obviously I screwed something up. It would be nice if Apple would dummy-proof iTunes. Maybe they have.

Considering all this, it may be hard to believe that I haven't really been into computers or technology. I have always spent alot of time on the internet, and e-mail is like crack to me... but I have only recently started to become interested in the computers themselves. I'm even considering looking into taking Computer Science classes (maybe I could pursue a BS, to go along with the Liberal Arts BA I got over 20 years ago).

Pretty crazy that I typed all this. This is what happens when the snow traps me inside... and I didn't even talk about my 12 years as an Army officer, or my second career in the motorcycle industry. i'll have to save those for another snowy day. :p

My family owned older Macs when I was younger but then switched to windows. I used Windows all through school, but once my sister got a Mac, I took a liking to it and finally bought my Macbook after graduation from college. So far I love it and don't plan on getting any thing else other than Mac's from here on out.

hi,
short intro and question.

i am ichi (ichiro), refugee from Maccentral 10+ years, then the failed MW MacCentral Alumni, then i was booted from MacMinute after most of us refugees went there to join other from MC that had been there since a split we had years ago.
if you want to know ore about me, just ask, some info can be found here: http://www.math.fsu.edu/~trogers (espcially in he "soldier" folder). my youtube channel is ichisatori.

i'll pb be in the political spot and mostly.

let me say that i have enjoyed reading MR for sometime (i use SlashDock for that).

question about usage: is there any way to expand the thread index so i can see more than just the original post & title?

are there other mac user oriented political forums i might check out? just thought i'd ask.

peace

oops, may i not post in the political forum?

oh i see, darn. i have political things to say, what shall i ppst for 100 posts to be allowed to talk politics, fluff, post pads --not my style? :(

p.s don't mean to come right out causing trouble but what does 100 unrelated posts prove on topics i may not have come here for? i came in because i saw you have a political forum.

ichiro

100 posts before being able to reply to political topics is too much delay and far too much to ask.

why not believe ppl have good intentions first, before restricting them.

oh well. your board, your rules. not my cup of tea.

I was supposedly doing the wrong thing when I created an individual thread about introducing myself. But its okay, I will introduce myself once more. I got my intel iMac in January this year after being a Windows user for slightly more than a decade and I am loving every moment of it. I am not looking back one bit.

My name is Darran and I am from Singapore. 21 this year and loves to do programming, versed in Java, ASP, CSS, XHTML and JavaScript, I am doing some self learning and trying to add PHP to that list. I also like to play football (soccer in American terms) and support S.S. Lazio (a team from Rome, any fellow supporters?).

I have a personal wordpress blog (I talk about anything which comes to my mind and most often than not, about geeky stuff) and am in the midst of creating a whole new template myself. Oh and feel free to add me on my MSN and we could chat even further.

Born and raised in Vienna, Austria. 25 years old. Was never much of a computer person, really. but like what I can do with a Mac now. Enjoy working AND studying at the same time. Enjoy partying. And sun.

what my Username means? Find out for yourself...:)

I have joined because I want help identifying an Apple IIe game that I used to play when I was a kid. There isn't much I remember about it...I think it was a maze, and there were wizards and dragons if I'm not mistaken. I know this only describes about 80 games, but I would appreciate any suggestions. The game was so fun!

my names Jake...

Still using a damn dell desktop but I graduate from college in May so maaaaybe I can get enough grad cash to pick up the Black MacBook 2.4

For some reason in the last year I have just become very board with pc's in general and there is just something about Apple that intrigues me as a company that makes me want all of their products.

I really hope to have my macbook in less than a month and hopefully I be on here all day asking questions and maybe answering a few myself..

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself, I've just ordered my first Mac (Blackbook 2.4Ghz) and I should get it in about a week's time (and then I'll upgrade the RAM with Crucial memory!). I've been reading the forums for about a month now while doing my research, so I would like to thank all of you for your indirect help :p

Anyway, I hope to contribute in the future and be able to help other people who have questions or problems.

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to Mac, using my new Macbook Pro which was bought as a replacement for my aging Windows notebook. I decided to join the forum because I noticed that of all the new to Mac websites I'd been using, your wiki is the most useful to me and the one I now go to first when I have a question about my new Mac.

I have always wanted to own a Mac, but I was so entrenched with Windows software that I always hesitated. Now that Macs can be dual-booted with Windows removed that hesitation and when replacement time came I thought that now would be a good time to enter the Apple universe. Oddly enough, I've been enjoying my new Mac so much that I've been resisting the idea of putting Windows on it. I feel like if I were to do that I would really be cheating myself of the opportunity to delve into the Mac world and it would lengthen my learning curve with this machine.

I've been very impressed with everything so far. The out-of-the-box experience was really cool and I was able to be functional right away. Obviously there are a lot of differences between the platforms and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating at times. It is, since things I used to be able to do automatically I now have to think about. Slowly I'm starting to get the hang of things and there's plenty of help around when I need it.

It may sound strange, but the hardest thing to get used to (at least for me) is how well integrated all the Mac applications are. I'm not used to this level of integration and I'm finding out that the way I think I need to do something is a lot harder than it really is. A good example of this is drag-and-drop. In Windows you usually have to cut and paste things between applications because you are using stuff from different vendors and it's not always well supported depending on what you are doing. I'm just getting used to the fact that I can drag-and-drop all kinds of things between apps in my Mac without any problem at all.

I think this story will sum up my experience pretty well. One of the first things I did when I got my Mac was to download Firefox since I am familiar with it and use it on all my Windows boxes. I got it up and running and then I went off to explore all the new goodies that come with a Mac. When I got back to Firefox, I tried to use the three finger swipe to go back a page. Nothing happened. I had already gotten so used to this trackpad feature that right then I opened up Safari and have been using it for the most part ever since (maybe Firefox does support it in some way but I didn't feel like investigating it since I knew that I already had an installed browser that knew what my three fingered swipe meant).

Anyway... excuse my long winded first post. Thank you all for the great work and information that is provided by MacRumors. I look forward to learning from you.

Hi Y'all (nope I am English actually)

Been here for a few weeks now and I must say its a pleasure to have such helpful, nice people.

I have been for too many years, poisoned by the PC flame wars. I am home again.

My PC got sold over the weekend and soon it will darken my life no more; for I have stepped back into the light.

Many a year has passed since my LCII and System 7.1, and were it only for the power that the PC had until a few years ago (Thanks Steve!) - now I am proudly holding my head high at work; proclaiming I AM A MACNUT and PROUD OF IT!.....

so, er hi everybodypeeps (yeh I talk a lot, and often)

Hello everyone! New here. :p

I'm female, 18 years old and currently in college...

My first experience with a Mac was back in...umm...*calculates* around 2003-2004. It's my dad's laptop. I've been using it when the PC was broken and find it annoying sometimes because there are a lot of programs unavailable which I use when I was a windows user. When the PC got fixed, I missed the laptop and realized that I'm more compatible with a mac despite the programs I use missing. I've found alternatives, the PC broke down again for the millionth time, and we never looked back. Mac all the way! :) I'm now running on Mac Mini and looking forward to purchasing my own Mac Book Pro soon. :p

Interesting forum here. Very active! :apple:

I believe I'm actually getting a used Powermac G4 this weekend. Being 14, I don't have sufficient funds to buy a new Mac.

A brief history (in chronological order): owned a PC and used them at work - got an iBook (white 12 or 13") and swore I'd never go back to PCs - had to sell iBook and later on got PC (girlfriend said she wouldn't 'be sure' about using a Mac and I stupidly listened and didn't argue) - 1 year later PC gone (gf never used) and got MacBook (black, how silly) - just got my first Mac for the desktop a 20" beast, my poor eyes are almost popping out my head with acres of screen real estate and you can even hear the speakers!!!

Love it.

Gonna now post my insanely stupid question in another section.

Hello all.

R!

p.s. finally signed up after seeing so many q's I had answered by people here after Googling for answers.

Glad to be here. I've already begun to browse for information that can help me through my needs. I was deciding for some time on what kind of computer I should buy for my needs. I'm no stranger to computers, but have always worked with Window's-based PC's. I really can't say I've experienced major problems with any of my systems in the past, so my decision was going to be based on practical needs.

Most of my computer needs have evolved into personal data archiving and movie production, so the overall experience and need for changing peripherals or hardware has diminished. I figured now was the time to just give the iMac a try. I researched my needs and just took the pre-assembled variety.

:apple: iMac 24" Model - 2.8 GHz - 2 Gig RAM - 320 Gig HD - ATI 2600

That's a great-deal more than my needs require, so there was no need for a powerhouse system.

Thanks for being here to keep me updated on news and events, as well as assistance for software and troubleshooting.

I'm new round here

Using my mac for video/music editing, plus a lot of play. I have a lot of interface experience but could use a lot of hardware guidance. I also want an iPhone for work purposes, but I'm still debating that purchase.
