Hi guys, I'm new here, just thought I would introduce myself and say hello! Basically, I'm a huge Apple fan, so this seemed the right place to share my knowledge, and hopefully gain some more! I don't yet own a Mac myself (shock horror) however all the years of using them at school and round mates houses has certainly given me some experience. The Only Apple products I have at the moment is the 16GB iPhone 3G (which I am in love with) and my old 20GB Black & White screened iPod with the click wheel. At the moment, I'm currently saving for either a MacBook / MacBook Pro or 24" iMac (as you can see I am keeping my options open!)

Anyway, that was enough of an introduction.

Hi! Found this forum while looking for a fix about a software update thing. Got my solution, and now I'm sticking around just in case. Posting from a MacBook Pro 15". Had a PowerBook that got fried last year, hence the MBP.

Anyway. Hi.

Hey guys, I am new here and thought it would be the right thing to introduce myself. I am not sure if this is the right place to post it, but it seemed to fit. My name is Paul and I have been a mac user for about 6 months now. I used to be a PC user but like many, made the switch (and will never go back) I am 16 years old and have being saving up over the past 6 months to buy all that is involved in my setup. I personally think its pretty decent and I will post it in the u18's setups. When I do I will also put a link here. Anyways, I should hopefully be around for a while on here as I LOVE discussing apple and all things new. so without further ado, Hi. :D

Hello guys, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have been an rumor onlooker for quite some time now and decided it was time to jump in. There is some great hardware/software topics abound and I couldn't help but want to become all inclusive. Looking forward to sharing everything Apple and computer related.

Respectfully,

Good Morning all.

I joined the MacRumors community after doing some research on what might be a fun, active and informative forum board. Last forum I was a regular participant with, was back in the days before Spymac imploded - (nuf said), so I'm going to try MR and see how that goes.
The boards have been around here for years and the formula works, so my peeps tell me.

Figured it'd only be right to say Hello & introduce myself.
I'm working as a graphic designer, a job I love. It's the primary reason why I switched over to a Mac as well- I'd had it with PC's after number 5 gave me the same woes as number 1,2,3 and 4... bought a little eMac as my first Apple product a few years ago, After doing a body of research & some time with a friends who let me borrow one of his Mac computers for a couple months.
Haven't looked back since. Missing the Blue-Screen-of-Death, and unexpected program closures, I am not.

Current set up is a 20" G4 iMac with 2gb Ram, upgraded DVD-r/w drive with 120gb internal HD, 500gb external HD. running OS X 10.4 Tiger. Wacom Intuos 3 6 x 11 tablet & and a bunch of other stuff nobody really cares about.
:p

She's admittedly getting a little dated, but I still love her. Saving up for a full-blown latest-model aluminum 24 inch iMac, but 'ol G4 here will continue to have a home.

Lesse- what else can I blather on about... My Home State is Hawaii, I'm an avid reader though my spelling is atrocious, I like petite brunettes, Tried snowboarding last year (think I'll keep it), Jagerbombs make my clothes fall off, I have the same birthday as when the world is supposedly going to end (Dec 21 2012 - won't that be nice. I still get cake, right?), I try to learn something new every day.
Ok- nice to make everyones acquaintance-
Hope to have fun here & maybe make a few new friends along the way.

DigiCatRedux Out. :)

Hey,

I lurk here occasionally but never post.

I started in mac communities about 8 year ago, first in a small Rogue Spear gaming community moving on to MacAddict (now Mac|Life, or M|LF) and then to several off shoots of MacAddict (ch54 and now macstack). Some guys over in that direction mentioned this place and boom, I found something to replace MacAddict.

I've got a 20 inch 2nd generation iMac, a video ipod thats like 4 years old and im fiending for an iPhone. Damn you tmobile!

I'm not technically new, but I did join about a month ago and, not knowing about this thread, I felt I never got the proper welcome. I'm kidding, I don't expect a welcome, though I would like to say welcome to all of the new members that are constantly joining Macrumors. Hello there and have a good time! (we promise we won't bite)

I have to say, this is one of my stranger posts on here. Whatever.

Welcome all newbies! :D

Yeah, I'm not really a newbie but these 4 months since I joined MacRumors have been worthwhile. I have a White MacBook 2.4GHz at the moment and have been enjoying my daily visits to Macrumors, checking the forums and rumors, well done guys and gals for making such a great community! I hope to be on here for a long while! :)

Long may it continue!

Thanks

Haha, I'm in fact new, unlike some of the people above me. Haha. I'm new and still discovered this thread!

Anyway, I've been using Apple computers since I was very young. I used my family's iMac when I was 13 or so to make websites. I've had almost every mini-sized iPod to date. I have a Power Book that I demolished and only works when the power cord is in a certain place and if I touch it, it dies. :p

I'm new to posting here, but not new to it's community. I've been reading Mac Rumors for years for tips, ideas, tricks, etc.

Now that I should be receiving my iMac (the first of my own) tomorrow or Friday, I thought I'd join the community to learn what I can!

Hello all, I'm technically not all that new (although I did join only a month ago, but lurked reading the forum for months before that and I switched in April after many months research to my wonderful MBP; I don't plan to switch back). To those newer than myself, welcome to the forum and to the world of Mac. It is a fascinating world, and the forum community is very helpful, too. Beware, though; Nanofrog is quite right; this forum is addictive, evilly so. Cheers and good luck

That's known as an avatar, but having one requires 500 posts. You can read all about it in the FAQs: Link (http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:MacRumors_FAQ#I_can.27t_upload_an_avatar)

With some time and patients, it's an easy enough goal to reach. :)

(Please note, however, that any posts that are off-topic, useless, or otherwise purely intended to pad your post count will be quickly removed by the moderators.)

hi everybody! bought my first mac a couple weeks ago after messing around with pc's for pretty much my whole life. i was really into pc gaming for the most part which is why i always had a windows machine, but constantly updating your hardware to play the latest and greatest got annoying. before i usually ran linux on my non-gaming, everyday use machines, but now i have a sleek macbook pro to replace them all. still have a nice powerful windows machine for when i want to game though.:D

helloz people, I am newz. to start off, i bought my first mac last year around in november, and havent used the apple half of my partition that much, since i use vista on the other side soley. to be honest, i dont use my mac side that much since i dont have pirated software/applications for the os, so i pimp vista now. yeah, that's not what you want to hear, but why would i lie? i like apple os cool ok, but i can't right click and that is a big annoyance for me. now, believe it or not, i would bet big bucks that i used a mac a long time before most of you, since i was playing with macs when most here were in diapers. however, i still can't get adjusted with most of it but have been set in my old ways. can i break out of it, or should i? give me five reasons and/or benefits to break out of the mold. thanks for the opportunity to break ice and give an openner...:apple::apple::apple::apple:

I've been lurking on MacRumors and a bunch of other Apple fan sites for 2 years. Finally, I've taking the plunge and posted some comments. I'm new to Macs as of 2006 and now my household has several Apple products. I am just waiting for the new MBs and MBPs so I can treat myself!

I wish I had a longer history with Apple products. I started out programming on a PDP-11, then a VAX, and then on to DOS/Windows. I never had ANY personal exposure to Macs. My business is now 100% Windows, although as one of the owners, I am working to change that. Unfortunately, so much of the software we need is Windows-only, and virtualization is not a solution - it's just a work-around. We need more Mac-Windows parity in applications!!!!!

I'm new as of an hour ago and I cant seem to start a new thread/ question so I guess this is a good space:

I have an issue with iphoto.

I unfortunately moved photos within Finder, the result being black thumbnails in iphoto. I change the source file in Preferences with no change.

I have downloaded photos files all over the place in Finder and need to consolidate.

Oh hey a new member thread. Neat.

My name's Dan and I'm a designer. Lately I've been designing and sometimes making furniture, but I'm an industrial designer at heart. I have a late Macbook Pro and I used to be a mechanic. In this economic weather, who knows what I'll be doing tomorrow. I'm a newly minted Mac enthusiast, a convert after catastrophic PC multiple component failure on my BYO that I'd been using for the last four years, late summer 2007. QOS at Best Buy and the like drove me away, and a friend at the Apple store showed me the way.

I'm studying English Language and Literature along with Media Studies and hope to go on to become an English specialist Upper Primary/Lower Secondary teacher. I hold a black belt in Wado Ryu Karate and I'm working as an instructor in primary schools around my home town.

After months of lurking and reading, I finally signed up yesterday.

My name's John. Up until two or three years ago I could have been on the Microsoft 'I'm a PC' ad - I was freakin' evangelical about the things. Then I got an iPod. Then I started working in a Mac-based office. Then a year ago, I got me a MacBook Pro. I've never looked back.

Seems like this is a fun forum, and one of the friendliest I've been around. I'll try not to lower the tone of the place. :D

And I'll post a bit in the 'Post your setup!' 'Post what your wearing!' 'Post your last shopping!' threads over the next few days by way of a more personal introduction.

Hello everyone, , this is my 1st post as I decided to join an Apple specific forum and it seems as if I am ALWAYS seeing Macrumors Forum coming up in Google searches that I am always doing so I just figured since I am constantly searching for answers about my Apple products and related things I may as well get to know a few good people and maybe get a little better answers to my "Constant" questions...LOL!!!! I apologize if this thread belongs somewhere else, this just seemed to be the most appropriate area, I have been a member of quite a few different forums for the better part of the last decade or so, so I am pretty familiar with Forum rules and procedures. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and I'm sure you'll all be hearing plenty from me. Thanx, "Get Inked"

Hi everyone!

I decided to join this forum after about a month of looking around for info about my "new" eMac. I've decided to get back into using macs after my dissatisfaction with Vista and ugly looking PC's.

The mac I own at the moment is a 1Ghz (ATI graphics) eMac and I used to own a Bondi Blue (revision A) iMac G3.

Hopefully, I can get a Mac Mini later on in the year so I can have a more modern Mac experience :D

Hello everyone!!

I'm new to the Mac world and I'd just like to stop by and introduce myself.
I am a 23 year old and I recently purchased the new aluminum MacBook 13.3inch 2.0ghz
I'm having fun with the laptop so far and I am hoping to learn a lot from this site/forum and its members.

See you around

Hi, my name is Bryan and after lurking for some time I decide to create an account and get in on the discussion.

I've used Apples/Macs since I was about 6 years old, as our schools here almost exclusively use Mac. At home we used PCs and I had a PC until I made the big switch in 2004 when I bought a 17" flat panel iMac G4.

I used that computer for 4 years without a single crash/problem. Last January I bought a late 2007 iMac 2.4ghz core 2 duo and I recently upgraded the ram to 4 gb.

I also have an 80gb iPod classic (black). I am a faithful Apple user, and I can say that while not my entire family are Apple users, we are Microsoft free (my stepdad uses Linux). So far, I've convinced my sister and 3 friends to buy Macs when it came time to buy a new computer... and they're all hooked now.

Hello everyone! I'm very happy to join this online community.

I've been a follower of Apple for a relatively short 1.5 years, but have definitely become "absorbed" so to speak (can't wait to hear *that* taken out of context:) ).

I'm in college and just completing my junior year working towards a BSBA in Finance (great timing, no?).

I own a unibody 2.4 Macbook and a white iPhone. Also, I've converted my girlfriend and bought her a unibody 2.0 and a white iPhone as well.

Lastly, I work for Apple Retail! Best part time job I've had, ever! Funny story- when I started there (1.5 years ago) I had never used a Mac before. Now I'm really happy with my switch!

Anyway, I'm very glad to join this community!

Thank you

Well, i just transfered over here from iPod Touch Fans (http://www.ipodtouchfans.com) because i got banned, and i got sick of that site anyway. I like this site a lot better because it is more mainstreamed to all Apple products and not just the "iPod Touch." I am very happy to have a fresh start and a fun adventure here at this forum!

All the best

Hey all :D

Well, I'm Captain Awesome - Because you're just dying to know, here's a list of my Apple crap:

- 3 Xserves
- PowerBook G4 15" aluminum
- AirPort Extreme (the older dome one)

I want a unibody MBP and an iPhone 3G S (3GS?).
Ooh, and an LED cinema display.

Unless I somehow manage to get myself banned, I'm here to stay :D

Hi

New member to to this forum although I have been a faithfull visitor of the macrumors site since I bought my Ipod Touch a year ago. And that has been such a nice experience that last week I bought myself a mac mini. Not a new model, but a 2007 model, at a stock clearance. I decided to go cheap so I can save for the new iMac (2010?) later.... :)

After 20 years of windows computing I must say the first days were confusing and I am still struggling with the keyboard shortcuts a bit, but overall, I'm quite excited ! I hope to learn a lot more on this forum.

Hi, I'm a newbie to posting but not to apple products.

My first apple purchase was the 2G iPod and it's still going!
I have a mac mini, macbook "13, itouch, shuffle 1G and 2G, and my latest addition was the iPhone 3G. I'm still learning how that one works. I guess I'm apple obsessed ever since my crappy Dell died.

Joined macrumers to get tips on what my apple products can do!

I'm new to the world of Mac. I have an iMac, and dabble in a bit of video editing for a local public access cable show. I'm not much of a gamer, but I recently downloaded Myst IV, but don't know how to proceed. I joined this forum to see if someone could help me start the game.

I would like to say that I am a newbie.. BUT. When I had the iphone before I was a member with around 300 posts.. after I shattered my iphone, I deleted my account on here, and joined PinStack (because I had a BB). I cant for the life of me remember my name, I think it was Jenna8620 or something like that.

So in a sense, yes I am a newbie..

My name is Jenna (obviously), I am 23, and I graduate in 2 semesters as a Paralegal, law school is in my plans for life, I am on my 2nd 1st gen iPhone, and I am getting a Macbook as soon as my school money comes in.. :)

Howdy, y'all!

This is my 12th post on the board (still proudly rated a noob) and I just discovered this thread. I've worked with Mac iBooks for a few years and found them nice enough. The thing that pushed me over the edge in favor of the Mac was the clean OS and its superiority in fighting viruses. Well, that and my old, old PC now qualifies as a historic monument.

Hope to run into some other newbies on the playground and happy Apple biting!

Cheers!

Hi guys,

I am Chrismac from mac-forums.com, and thought I would sign up here :)

My career is in IT and I have been working on MS/Linux based netrworks since day 1, however I 'switched' in June this year after purchasing an iPhone!

This is what I have had pass through my hands since June this year [in order]:-

Apple iPhone 3G.
Apple MacBook White 2GB RAM > Then upgraded to 4GB RAM.
Apple iPhone 3GS.
Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2GB RAM / 160GB HDD > Then upgraded to 4GB RAM / 320GB HDD.
Apple MacBook Pro 15" 2GB RAM / 250GB HDD > Just ordered 4GB of RAM and a 320GB 7200rpm HDD.

As you can tell I have tuned into a Mac NUT!

I have got to the stage where using a MS machine grates on me! lol ;)

Anyway - hello! :apple:

Just a quick post to say hello to everyone, and hopefully i'll be able to give my input to some posts and also be getting some great advice off everyone here :)

Got my first white MacBook about a year ago, slightly upgraded it with a new bigger hard drive and more memory, then i got myself the current iMac only a few months ago and loving it. Then i went Apple mad and signed upto a contract on O2 for the iPhone 3G S. Currently im a I.T Engineer here in Scotland for a nationwide company based in the UK.

Hobbys including the likes of computers, gaming, photography, cycling, eating out etc.

So, anyway ill stop going on but looking forward to being a regular contributer to the forum.

I just joined the forum after doing a google search for "ipod collectors," as this site came up under the top 2 results. I follow macrumors on Twitter and get alot of useful info, so thought would give this a try....

I did the search for "ipod collectors" b/c a family member of mine has the original ipod and was going to use as a trade in at the Apple Store for a new ipod. A tech working there suggested that he sell as a Collector's Item instead, as would be worth ALOT more than the trade in offer, so posting this in case any of you ipod collectors might be interested? I believe it is the first generation/first model released, and it uses the firewire charger. It looks practically new to me, and just noticed some minor surface scratches on the silver back -- And it works fine! I am not totally sure of the gigabytes, but "think" it is 5GB model.

I told him that I would do some research on it, so if anyone out there has any interest, or can suggest where I should further look for pricing info, etc. I would greatly appreciate :)

Also, I have a 4GB ipod mini (Gold Color) that is still in the box and was never used (It also charges via the firewire cable). Additionally, I have the ipod mini Dock that is in the wrapped box and unopened box.

Thanks.....:apple:

Hi. Just like the original Mac said on that beautiful wintry day, January 24, 1984. :D

Rank newbie to MR -- have mercy on my n00b soul. ;) Used Macs since the SE in 1987 and never looked back ever since.

Funniest Mac heart attack story: one day in 1992, I decided to boot an old pinball game on a 400K MFS-formatted Mac 3.5" floppy disk on a SE with a 20 MB hard drive while waiting for somebody. I didn't realize it, but the bootable disk had System 1.0 on it. So when it booted into the original Finder, I didn't see the 20 MB hard drive icon on the desktop. I just about needed emergency dry-cleaning, especially since it wasn't my Mac. ;) Then I remembered that System 1.0 had no idea what hard drives were and couldn't even mount them. Game worked great. Afterwards, rebooted and saw the familiar System 6 desktop AND the hard drive icon. Whew!

Well, hey, hi to everybody -- I'm liking my 7th day here. :)

Hi.

Not exactly a 'new' member. I first joined a couple of years ago when I bought a refurb macbook that came with a duff battery. I sent it back, and went back to Windows with a Samsung laptop.

Now that laptop has started dying, I took the opportunity (and staff discount!) to get a MacBook. (and it works!)

So, I will probably be here more from now on.

Hey Guys,

My name is Andrew and I work as a certified Mac tech for my college that I attend in CT.

I have been wanting an iPhone for over a year now but having t-mobile doesn't really help. So my girlfriend bought me an Ipod touch, thinking I would kick my obsession and buy a blackberry like her. That plan back fired the iTouch just made me want one more :).

So this weekend I bit the bullet and bought a used iPhone 3g on ebay for 300 dollars and then the next morning bought another 3g from a friend of a friend for 100 bucks. I don't know where he was the night before . In any case I have TWO NOW!! :D, I'm selling one of them though because being a college student I kinda need the money.

I'll be hanging out here and over in the other sections but being a new iPhone user I have a feeling i'll be in here a lot to check out what you guys are up to.

Sorry for the long read, I just wanted to introduce myself.

I'm 16 years old and work at MagnumMac, NZ's largest Premium Reseller. As we don't have an official Apple presence in NZ yet, we're basically the closest you get.

I switched to the Mac in 2006, and have used them on and off as well for many years.

Hey all, switched from my beloved Windows Mobile 6.5 phone yesterday to the new iPhone 3GS. So far it seems alright. Going to definitely need to jailbreak this thing today though, I'm not liking the restrictiveness of the phone. Windows Mobile may be a bit slower but it seems like there's way more programs and modifications out there.

Anyway, I figured I would say hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I secretly wish my company would block access from work...I would get a lot more work done ;)

Just joined a few weeks ago and have found it extremely helpful and I have been able to chime in on a few topics as well to help. :)

Have:

iMac Mini, MacBook, AppleTV, Airport Extreme, and several iPods including two iPhone 3Gs and an Ipod Touch.

Been a Mac user since 1990 in college, been an owner since 1996. LOVED working for a company (AccuWeather) that only used Macs inhouse for all forecasting work and of course, for all their graphical needs. :D it was nice to see different parts of the company get the neweast Macs as they came out. Haven't worked their in 7 years...so I have to buy my own and live vicariously through others.

Hello everyone,

I have been a pc user since 1996 and today made my first mac purchase :) . I got sick and tired of windows and the cheaply made pc's that are on the market. Windows 7 to me was not very good, boring and buggy on my laptop. bought a dell studio 1735 in August of 2008, should have bought a mac back then. Today I bought the 27 inch iMac with the i7 core processor and 8 gigs of ram. I can't wait to get it, suppose to ship by January 12th. Nice forum you have here, will visit often, cheers!. :apple:

Hello everyone! I'm a proud owner of a 13" Macbook, duo core, intel 2.0GHz, 160GB, 2GBram. I've built a website devoted to mac users, just a lil free one, just for fun. :) I'm absolutely in love with my macbook, as I'm sure you all are in love with yours. MAC RULES THE WORLD!!! Well, eventually anyways... and with the introduction of the ipad into the world, things are going to turn towards Apple inc. even more, and I say... "FULL SPEED AHEAD STEVE!!!"

I'm happy to have joined this forum, it's long overdue, I hope to meet a lot of friends and fellow mac users here, share my knowledge, and hopefully gain some knowledge as well! So to start off with, here are three programs that I think are amazing upgrades to any mac, (except Jitouch, as it requires either touch screen or trackpad) You all likely know of these programs already, but if not, then I've helped contribute to the mac community as a start, with hopes of good times ahead. :) Thanks for reading my post, feel free to check out my profile, and my new website! Have fun everyone, and lets all say it together... "APPLE = LIFE!!!"

Here's my three programs I'd like to mention so far...

1) Jitouch - Extra gestures for the trackpad or magic mouse!
2) Bumptop - 3D desktop for your mac!! Very cool!!
3) FluidTunes - Isight control of your itunes music!!! Amazing, handsfree!!

Please visit my website.

Well, I agree, everyone does have their preference. I can't bash PC, I used PC for years and years. Lol, all of my computer knowledge comes from PC. I won my macbook in a draw, and since then, I've been very, very impressed. In my opinion, the difference is night and day, but as said, to each his/her own, I'm a mac man myself though. :)

I work at a Sobeys Warehouse, and they had a Sobeys family day at Canada's Wonderland. (Theme Park) They offered cheap tickets, so I took my friend and his girl, and my girl. They held a draw at mid day, hundreds of people entered it. There were 15 prizes, and then the grand prize, my macbook. When they called my name, I nearly fainted. (literally) My girlfriend was sooooo jealous! (She owned a macbook at the time, but was in transition to an imac desktop) At that time, I'd never even used a mac. I had no idea how to even use it. When it was finally shipped to me, and I opened it, turning it on was like finding a bar of gold bouillon. Lol. My life hasn't been the same since.

I used to dabble here and there with computers, but now, I'm in head first. I've started business ideas, an online charitable organization, a few websites, I even used my mac in school, business computers, and recieved an award for mastering dreamweaver and e-business! I live on my mac, give or take a few hours for other things. Lmao.

Hi everyone. I've recently started a retail business - I've started with laptop accessories and wanting to learn how to expand my business without needing too much capital. I hope this forum is the best venue to learn about this and meet people who can help me.

Ive been a member less than 2 months and so far, Ive posted my own help in other peoples threads more than I expected. I joined because of a problem Im having with my imac(still have no solution). I like this site although I feel a few members in here are judgemental against me because of my occupation. Guess I shouldnt have been honest about that or maybe shouldnt have even answered it. I have no intention of offending anybody here, although it seems that my "adult" sense of humor has maybe offended a few members. I guess they shouldnt read anymore of my responses. If the Moderator says something about it, I will comply. But for now, Im glad to be here.

Just got a Macbook Pro 15" MC118LL/A last week and trying to learn a whole new world to me. I've been building my own PC's since the early 90's and started out with DOS 3.3 so it's a hard road to start down for me.

I've been trying to assemble a list of 'must have' apps to equip my Mac well so it will hopefully help me ease in a little better. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and ilife 09 and iwork 09. I am going to boot camp it with windows 7 ultimate (I have a microsoft technet subscription) so I can see how it runs on the mac as well.

I picked up the Macbook sealed from ebay with the bing cashback for 1308 delivered from a trusted seller. Seeing that the same model is 1699 from Best Buy I think I got a really nice deal, however I do want to upgrade the hard disc as I have about 100gb of personal music so the 250 gb drive will disappear quickly when I add that and the boot camp windows 7.

I know the new macbooks are coming out soon, but with the 10% bing cashback and the price I paid for my first mac I'm ecstatic with it and maybe in a year or so I'll look at what is new.

Right now I just want to learn another platform. My wife was raised on macs so she just sometimes can be heard giggling at me when I talk to this mac saying things like 'oh come on now, where is it hidden?' 'where's THAT coming from?' 'why is that icon bouncing on the bottom?' I've leaned a lot of the basics since I got it last week but I'm still just a greenhorn to be honest.

Thanks for reading and I have a couple of questions but I'll post them in a few days.

Reason being I am finding the need for a laptop while in college and recently got an iPhone fell in love with it and Apple. Hoping this new laptop will be the same.

Just wanted to introduce myself, looks like a good forum to be a part of!

I've been a long-time contributor to political forums, but for quite a while I've been tired of the all stupidity, rancor and name-calling. As a Buddhist, I'm trying to cultivate a more peaceful and kind mentality, and felt these forums sabotaged my efforts.

I kept searching for a site where people weren't just interested in venting and stumbled across macrumors. What a find! Not only are there discussions on politics, religion and current events, but also graphic and web design, (I'm a twenty-year professional) not to mention macs (20 years of devotion).

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Peace out y'all :D

That's right folks, another new guy! You've won me over dang it! :)

So a quick history, I started on an Apple IIe a long time ago. Time goes by and of course I got sucked into the world of PCs. I've spent the last 10 years on Windows XP and then about 2 years ago I just started getting sick of Windows in general. Now I've been working on Ubuntu for the past 6 months, much better! I've always been an Ipod fan, have owned several different gens, including a few Ipod Touch. Only reason I haven't gotten an Iphone yet is because I haven't wanted to switch to Verizon (will be getting Iphone "HD" this summer, regardless).

So, my conversion story is simple. I was always a blind "hater", never really knowing why I didn't like Apple computers. A few weeks ago I went to Haiti for some missionary work (setting a new network from the ground up at a school). While I was there a friend was always using his Macbook Pro. I ended up using it a lot as well and asked lots of questions. By day two I was sold...I fell in love with how streamlined everything was. Programs ran with efficiency, not so many lock ups, an OS that just seemed to WORK! So that's my love story!

I haven't bought a Mac yet, but I've been on here for the last week reading a lot. I was actually stacked and ready to go out and by a MBP, but then I got a warning from a friend to hold off until the refresh. Wow was I ever glad...I'd been pissed if I had done that within days/weeks of new ones coming out. Sorry for the being long winded, just wanted to share...happy to be hear and a proud new "Apple guy". Thanks for an informational, wealth of information here.

Hey everyone. I've been reading this site for a long time but just decided to join today. I've always been a PC/Windows/Microsoft kind of guy but the last few years they seem to have lost the plot. You can tell that they spend a huge amount of R&D dollars in the corporate space because we see new and interesting server platforms and business systems from them all the time but their consumer innovation has been nonexistent for some time now. I remember how the consumer computing world changed when we went from DOS to Windows. I remember the leap to Win 95 and then to 98 and XP in the consumer world. I remember the shift that came with the NT kernel and Win 2000 in the corporate world. Looking at the Apple consumer product suite at the time, it wasn't a good fit for me and never drew my interest.

Fast forward to the present. Win XP is end of life, Windows Vista was a cruel and shameful joke on the consumer, and Win 7 just strikes me as service pack 4 for XP. I make the statement from an innovation perspective for the consumer. Sure the kernel has changed, sure the security model is different, etc, etc. But what about the "WOW" factor for consumers. There was a time when we could look forward to the next big shift and embrace it. Looking at Ballmer's interview at D8, you can tell that when it comes to consumers, they don't know what people want anymore. They're grasping at straws and symptoms but they're not leading innovation anymore.

For that reason, I'm making the shift to Apple for my next computing device. I don't know what that is yet but I do know that for the last few years, all the WOW factor has come from Apple.

Hello!

My name is Joe and I go by the persona of JVB when I am podcasting.

I have always enjoyed Apple products because of the quality of its craftmanship. My first Apple-based purchase was an iPod Touch for my wife on Mothers Day, 2 years ago. Now, after 3 iPhones, I have my 16 gig iPad and I love it.

I have been a reader of Mac Forums for many years and I thank everyone for their informative conversations that helped me solve problems I've had with my Apple products in the past, and future. :)

Troon
Jul 7, 2010, 07:48 AM
Hi. I’ll do a short introduction.

I’m from a small town in Scotland called Troon (Famous for hosting the Golf Open Championship). I actually live in Thailand 90% of the time.

My switch to Apple happened last oct when i bought an Iphone 3Gs, i actually expected it to be difficult to use. I was wrong.

I had a compaq Laptop (the first PC of any sort that i personally bought) for 4 years and can’t say i had that many problems with it.

I wanted a new laptop for about a year but couldn’t really justify buying one because i didn’t really need one because my uses for a laptop are very simple. I brows about online. Download music, upload pictures and videos, send Emails and use Office for work.

Then last November my 15 year old step daughter asked if she could get a cheap laptop. With in 5 minutes i had my old laptop in my bag, i drove to my friends who is a wizz kid with computers, gave him the laptop and told him to scrub everything on it and put windows 7 on it along with new Thai keys and language in the laptop.

Drove into town to the Apple store which took about another 10 minutes, and roughly 15 minutes later had a 15” MacBook pro with 250Gb HD amd snow leopard installed and I also bought Windows Office for it as i am used to using it.

I got home, opened it, and i think the easiest explanation i can give as to how my experience of changing to Mac was................ it worked and it was easy.

Personally i think the whole Mac v PC thing is a bit childish at times and i don’t mean to offend anyone with that ladies and gents. And until i bought a MAC i knew very little about them, and like most of you will have said, i am never going back to PC, everything just works!!

I am a DJ and will be using my MBP to DJ soon once i install Traktor, you can see my set up in my Avatar :)

I can’t say i will add anything to this board, it will be a case of me asking questions now and again as i am not too clued up about computers, although i wish i was as i find them fascinating.

There’s a wee intro from your newest joiner ladies and gents.

Lurch.
Oct 16, 2010, 10:36 AM
G'day guys,

The name is Jason, but Lurch to most.
I'm a IT Manager at the University of Canberra, here in Oz.
Most of my life I've been a strictly 'Doze guy, but always had a curiosity of Apple gear. So first came the iPhone, then work wanted me to take an iPad to play with and now was due for a new laptop - so I chose the 13" Macbook Pro.
Ive only had the MBP for a couple of days, but already love it. I doubt I'll even bother dual-booting it, not unless some *really* insanely great new game comes out, and considering my gaming has been getting less and less over the last few years, thats pretty doubtful anyway.
So yeah... am I a convert - not sure yet, but certainly enjoying the change. What do they say? Think Different? Its working thus far....

Cheers,
Lurch

G'day everyone,

I've just joined up on this forum, as I thought it's probably a wise idea to be on a Mac forum, in case I get stuck with something (which I sort of have already - I'll most likely post another thread on this).

Anyway, I'm an Australian tech-head (or something like that). I'm a web developer (including Flash in the mix) and programmer. Other than that I do have some bit of skill in graphic art, 3D, and video editing.

A few months ago I saw the light and made the switch to Mac, getting myself a used Mac Pro 1,1. It's an Intel Xeon Quad-Core 2.26Ghz, I recently upgraded the memory to 8GB, ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 MB GPU, and 750GB (500GB, 250GB) hard drive.

Anyway, look forward to talking more.

Hi, I have a Mac mini PPC--one of the older ones, getting on for six years, I guess (family computer). Like it but it's getting a bit slow--but then so am I--and I plan to keep it going a while yet. I've got a fair amount of experience with computers from my job, but not really deep technical knowledge.

When I do web searches for various problems I encounter I keep landing in here, so it made sense to join.

~Rich

P.S. The very first Mac I used was, I think, a Macintosh Plus in the late eighties. Nine-inch B&W screen, no hard drive, an auxiliary floppy drive so we could use data disks. We used it at our library to print catalog cards in non-roman scripts. With the late lamented Word Perfect, of course.

Hello to all !

Just a small message to present myself...I've been reading the news and the forum for a while now and though it would be time to join !

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right section, I looked around and it seemed like the best place !

As to our beloved apple products, I own a early 2008 MBP...so I'll be on the market for a new computer by this summer...I'm looking forward to the next iMac refresh as I might be buying a desktop and will be keeping an eye on the MBA to replace my laptop. Obviously the forums are great for feedback before making a move so I'll definitively be around :)

I'm from french canada so sometimes my spelling can be wrong...pardon me ! :D

Have a good one !

Sooooo, hey ya'll!

Ok, ok, I'll stop.

New here. Been a lurker for a long time, but finally got up the gumption to join. I have a blackbook (mid-2008) that I saved from ebay... it was my first mac, a spur-of-the-moment purchase, and one of the best things I've ever bought. It did, after all, convince me to run away from the world of Windows ;)

I also have a 3rd gen ipod touch... so I'm not exactly drowning in Apple products, but I DO have a new 15" i7 MBP ordered that was a birthday gift to myself... that counts for something, eh?

Hi,

Joined in Jan. I end up supporting my dad and sister with their Mac problems, so I thought why not put some of what I know to use..

Great people here.

hello everyone! i just joined the forums today and would simply like to introduce myself. my name is gabriel and i have been a windows user for over 15 years now. that all changed with my purchase of the new generation mac mini. first thing i swapped out was the 2gb ram with 8gb of crucial memory. noticed a huge improvement especially in cs3 and bridge. i am currently using a gateway fpd2185w monitor with apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. i am looking into getting an ips monitor and those dell ips monitors are looking very good especially for the price. my monitor was flickering yesterday while running intensive applications but seems to be working fine now. i noticed others on here have experienced flickering screens so i will keep a close eye on it.

other apple products i own are iphone 3gs (wife and i), ipod classic 160gb, airport express and that's about it. so far it's been an easy transition from windows to mac and would appreciate any further advice from you fellow experienced members on here. :)

Hello newish member. Canadian expat working in an NGO (not the UN) in Geneva. Picked up an iphone 4 in January and as they say at McDs "Im lovin' it".

Got a PC desktop at home, a 5 months old HP Pavilion with Windows 7 which I actually like and picked for gaming purposes as well as internet etc. in spite of pressure from some Mac using friends. Next computer may be a Mac though. :)

Nice forum and it has given me some very useful tips.

I've been on here regularly since just before the release of the iPad2. This is my one-stop shop for any and all quest/answers I may have.

I have a Toshiba PC and Iphone 4, and Ipad 2. I've had ipods, and touches before but nothing to involved. My brother has a Mac and it seems to be pretty innovative.

Hi guys,

We’re a team of drunk* Iphone App Developers. I'm a graphic designer, and she's singl... I mean a programmer. ;)
We joined together to give the world simple yet great Iphone apps. Help us with our drinking problem by downloading our (mostly free) apps.
Thank you! :)

There is a weekly drinking vs. revenue graph, new apps coming
this week, and more news..

Anyways, we're using a whole bunch of apple products, we got all 4 iphones, as we try to adapt all our apps to every software version/resolution. My first mac I got around 2004, never imagined I'd be a developer one day. :)

Hope to have a great time here on forum!

Hey! :)

I am LggN, a new member of your forum at MacRumors! I have viewed this forum as a guest for some time now. I know, you probably don't care, and neither would I if I were you, but I have to introduce myself! :P

I LOVE technology, and I like to stay up-to-date. I hope this forum is friendly, like another forum I am a member of. I see this place has a bunch of members too, so I am guessing that is good!

I hope to see you on the forum! Well, if you reply. Otherwise I will have no clue who "you" are/is. :p

Hello,

I finally decided to become a member after lurking for some time. I'm mostly intrigued by the community - while I've had my macbook pro for a while, and a varied selection of ipods over the years, I'm not all that passionate about computers in general... Seems like these boards have a good thing going, and I'm glad to become part of it :)

I'll be seeing you all around!

You need to be a member for awhile and have at least 500 posts to add an avatar. Hang around for bit and enjoy yourself. You'll be there in no time. :) Welcome

You look in your User CP, but you need the requisite number of posts first.

Keep pitching, for I believe the number is 500.

EDIT: Whoops, there was another page. :o

DOUBLE EDIT: I believe that you are the first I remember from the "armpit of America". :p

I didn't see a "New Users" or "Welcome" section so I thought this would be appropriate for a New User introduction!

My Name is Chris. Long Time Apple fan, yet long time Dell owner. I'm 14 and I'm (going into) the 9th grade. I have always had a love for computers, especially mobile computers (Laptops & Smartphones). I currently don't own a Personal Mac or iPhone (My Macbook is my work computer; Yeah, I have work computer! :D) but i do know how Macs work and I get to use one on a daily basis, and I do own a iPhone. Ok I guess I DO own a Mac, but it's a 12-inch Powerbook G4, which you can't do much with anyways. Since I'm going into the digital arts department I hope to end up getting a Macbook (Though I would REALLY enjoy a Macbook Air!) So that's pretty much me! I hope to be an active member on the forums!

Hello everyone I am new here:apple:

Oh cool an apple smilie, I am going to use that rather then a period:apple:
Well I decided to join since I am a big apple fan and like discussing apple products and culture:apple:

I am waiting for the release of lion, although I'm not to sure if I need to get it, it only has few features that I would really enjoy out of it, but then again it is going to be pretty cheap:apple:

Quick question, what day do you think Lion would be released? since it has yet to be released, and I thought it would have been released today, I am going to guess July 10th since that is Nikola Tesla's Birthday!

FNG here.

I never owned an Apple system but, I had a few Hackintoshes.. Don't hate.. I no longer have them and now I have a PB G4 17" 1Gcpu 2G ram.

I'm hoping to get a MBP here in the next few weeks. I would LIKE to get one before Lion's release so if I don't like Lion, I can fall back to Snow Leopard. I'm on the fence to get the 17" or 15" MBP.... I need to carry it around so I'm leaning for the 15" but, I want the size of the 17". I'm currently spoiled on the 17" G4. (and my 22.5" wide flat panel)

Otherwise, I'm a SysAdminII for a library and we are all Windows. I am a FreeBSD junkie and when Mac OS X came out, I've always wanted one. I'm finally to the point to where I can get one.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying the board and have learned enough to make my bank account smaller... Hence my sig...

Hey guys i am a new apple fanatic. I have had the iPhone4 about a year now, ipad2 since March 11 and just recently bought my first 13.3" MBP. Which i have to say is by far the best computer I've ever bought. My next move will be the new Mac Mini and apple tv for all my movies and shows. I have already learned quite a bit here so thanks!!

I just registered today, but I've been visiting this site for MONTHS to resolve my macbook pro 13" 2010's issues and to avail everytime except recently, hence my registration. Hopefully I'll get helped out by all the experts and ppl with experiences. What I've learned so far is that the more trouble I go through with my Macbook, the more I learn about it. :apple: for life

Hi thought I'd introduce myself.

Long time Mac Rumors user but only recently joined the Forum.

I've just ordered my first Mac. A 15" MBP with High Res Anti Glare. 2.0GHz Quad Core i7 - Hopefully arrives Thursday!! :D

I've also got a 32GB 3Gs which I'll hopefully upgrade when the 5 comes out!

I'm a keen Photographer (hence the Anti Glare on the MBP for when I'm using Lightroom and Photoshop)

I work as a Colourist for a TV production company in the UK. We mainly make Wildlife, factual and observational documentaries.

So thats me saying Hi.
