Has anyone with the new MBP's (2.2-2.4GHz) tried SimCity 4 Deluxe? After reading earlier threads and articles regarding the Univeral Binary update (beta) it seems its been met with mixed results with varying machines i.e. Mac Pro/MBP 2.16-2.33GHz. While somewhat playable under Rosetta I have reason to pause after reading others experience with the Nvidia 8600M GT and Aspyr games. I certainly would appreciate anyone's input as I would hate to plunk down the $50-$60 for SimCity 4 Deluxe only to find it virtually unplayable on my SR MBP.

I have SimCity 4 Deluxe, but I have yet to play it on my new 2.2GHz MacBook Pro. Perhaps if I remember, I will try doing so tomorrow. :)

Thanks, I had actually purchased SimCity 4(no Rush Hour) back in 2004 and had tried it on my then Powerbook G4 1.5GHz and it was like watching bad stop motion animation. The CD went missing but I'd like to play this game again in OSX as installing bootcamp and XP for one game is a last last last resort. Funny thing was when I was at my local CompUSA last month and saw SimCity 4 Deluxe for $19.99 in the Apple games section. Picked it up but my skepticism got the better of me and I saw that it was the PC version:(

Yeah, I was wondering if it ran well on intel mac. But since you got macbook pro, you can install XP on it or you can play PC games w/o runnin' XP on it. I think it's called W.I.N.E. something like that. Hopes this help!

This game is kick-ass!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion but perusing the WINE HQ site it looks like actually getting SC4 to work is still a work in progress.

I have been playing Simcity 4 deluxe with the beta patch on my new 2.4 ghz MBP smoothly for several days. Of course it might be faster when the final version of the UB patch comes out, but so far, no complaints here. :)

Thanks for the reply. I had actually went by CompUSA today and had SC4 Deluxe in my hand but set it down until I heard about its playability. Is it fairly smooth when scrolling throughout your city? I would expect some slowdown when your city gets larger due to the redrawing but it's comforting to know that despite being a beta, the game holds some promise when it finally goes UB.

Edit: I do have to admit it's pretty sick when you see the PC version of SC4 Deluxe retailing for $19.99 and Aspyr's port is $59.99. Ouch.

Okay, I caved in and purchased SC4 Deluxe from CompUSA, although I still can't get over that the PC version is only $19.99 while the Aspyr port is $59.99. I have it and the Universal beta patch installed on my 15" 2.4GHz MBP with 4GB of ram. Gameplay is not as smooth as I would have hoped as there are quite a bit of graphical anomalies i.e. cars vanishing and buildings glowing. Scrolling throughout your city can be somewhat laggy and I had experienced the same results when I had played the standalone SC4 on my 1.5GHz Powerbook. Anyone still playing this game, I suggest visit:

I just hope Aspyr is still developing the patch. I have this massive craving for SimCity 4, but I want it on my Mac.
