This is absolutely the first time I've even thought about attempting to shoot fireworks. It was a pretty nice show at the fairgrounds, though short, but it was free. 
There were some nice flowers around so I took a few shots before the sun went all the way down.

I took about 60 fireworks shots, some playing with settings in manual mode and some with the Fireworks preset scene mode. I couldn't tell you which I was using for these.

I'm no pro and I'm still learning with my Canon PowerShot G7. I might not of chosen the best for comparison but in ways, flowers and fireworks are very similar. Bright colors, blooming... you get the idea.
