View Full Version : Flicker-Problem solved!

I recently recieved my third replacement and it used to have that flicker problem. (LG, both of the others were lg too and both of them had the yellow whatever) It can be described as waves or lines running downwards your screen. After installing the newest update it was not that dominant anymore.
Another interesting thing was that the lines were now running from the bottom to the top.
I' ve called a Genius and he gave me the hint to reset the PRAM and NVRAM.
That worked out for me. Now I have a wonderful MBP SR screen. Puuuh!

for the benefit of the forum, would you explain how to reset the PRAM and NVRAM?

Oh Sorry.
Shortly after you started your Computer press and hold Command+alt+p+r.
Now hold theese until you hear the startup sound a third time.
That's all.

Huh, I see that too. But I also see that it has lines on it, one darker than the ones on either side... are you sure that's not a trick of your eyes, like the way your eyes make crazy things happen when you look at horizontal blinds?

no, didnt work for me can you explain what needs to be done a bit clearer please?
i tried pressing ctrl alt p and r on startup and i dont see any difference

It's definitely not; I see flickering as well as horizontal lines moving down the screen. If you wanted to be extra sure, check the image out on a different display. I don't see the problem on either of the other 2 LCD monitors I've got.

Is that a screenshot or a photo of your display?

It's a screenshot that another MacRumors member posted. He noted that he was seeing flickering using Logic on his new 17" SR MBP and asked if anyone else was experiencing it as well. I'm on a 15" SR MBP, fyi.

You have to press :apple: -alt-p-r, NOT ctrl! Success...

My Macbook has been flickering for the last 5 months getting worse and worse. It has gone back to apple several times, they denied it was happening each time!?!?!?! What are you to do in such a situation? Anyway a friend of mine has a Macbook PRO (lucky git), I tried his 80w power adapter in my Macbook..... the flickering stopped, after hours of use still no flicker. I add that I have tried numerous 60w Macbook adapters since I had already been told it may have been an adapter fault, but to no avail. It seems, as improbable as it sounds, that the Macbook needs an 80w power supply not 60w!!!!!!

Hope this works for everyone with the screen flicker problem, as I know just how annoying this was getting!!!

Might be worth firing that in an email off to apple support see if they take notice.

Have done, lets see what happens (though I doubt that I am the only one to have tried this).

The flickering on the macbook is due to a faulty inverter. It's an easy fix. When I talked to the apple store genius about it, she told me that it's quite common and they don't need to see the issue to fix it. Another genius told me that if you press quite hard around the F4 key, it will induce flickering because that's where the inverter is.

I would call apple and then give them a link to the massive threads on thsi issue on the apple disucssion site. This is a known issue and I believe that it's in their database of issues.
