Well, we have had Geekfest in New Orleans and DC, and I know it hasn't been a year yet, but I want to host a Geekfest here in Tuscaloosa.

I helped get the first one going, and hopefully this one will pan out. I need input from folks as to when they could come. I am personally thinking sometime towards the middle to end of August.

Yep, it will be hot. Real hot, but that means a lot of bikini's at the pool ;)

There will be real southern BBQ, and fun to be had. A quick jaunt to Birmingham will show everyone a great nightlife while they are here. Bands such as Train, Bare Naked Ladies, and many, many others play in Birmingham on a regular basis.

Also the comedy club will have some great acts next month as well. I would like to do it before the football season starts, as no one will be able to get a hotel on a football weekend.

So, that said, let me know if anyone is interested. My wife will cook some gumbo, and if Stelliform comes up, then I can have him bring some live crawfish and we can all have a boil. Eyelikeart is close, and I know that others are as well.

Plus, SouthWest Airlines flies into Birmingham, and it is cheap during the summer. Most places that fly southwest to Birmingham are like $59 round trip.

Just let me know. And get ready for Redneck geekfest. All the BBQ and tank tops you can stand.

Oh, and if your working computer sits on top of your non working computer. You might be a redneck geek ;)

Wow if you could get that going, I wish you good luck man.

How many members are close to alabama?

I think that will be a greater problem, but I'm sure the adult-ish (:p) members will come no matter what distance.

Well, there are actually a lot of people in and around Alabama that are members here.

Here is a link to the Birmingham city's site.

Bill White is going to be at the comedy club from the 6-10th. If people could come, then that would be worth going to. He is funny. Real funny. Go rent the "Blue Collar Comedy tour". He is the first performer. I personally think that the end of August would be better.

Cool, I didn't know we have members there! :)

I'm glad we have spreaded.

That site looks nice even with its own 'plan a meeting'! :D

Wish NYC did that. :(

People don't realize how nice Birmingham really is. Really nice city, with plenty to do.

A friend of mine is going to make T-Shirts for the event ;)

Yes, the ladies in Alabama are quite nice. Also, Jello, there are some of the best golf courses in the world here.

Even the people who live in Birmingham UK think its a s**thole:D

I used to live 20 miles from it, damn it's a grim place, Birmingham USA is a paradise in comparison:)

Well, I'll have to pass on this one - got too much going on and its only a couple months after the Geekfest up here.

That and we're planning on going to Cape Cod in August, so its not good timing.

Good luck and post lots of pics! :D

Nice one, BTTM! :D

Unfortunately I'll be visiting my parents in Northern California during that time...so it's a no go for me. I look forward to the time I'll be able to take you up on the offer.

What? This sounds awesome! A Geekfest in T-Town is one of the better ideas any of us have ever had. Post a definite weekend so I can ask for the time off to come up from Montgomery, man. Great idea! :D
