I want to make a magnet close for my iPhone case but I wanted to make sure of one thing.

Will a magnet effect the screen on the iPhone? I feel like it will but it seems as though the new incase case uses magnets

Welcome to the forums!

I see no reason why a magnet would mess up an iPhone. It uses non-magnetic storage, and I don't think the screen uses anything to do with magnets either.

I thought the gyros that sense the rotation of the iPhone from portrait to landscape mode are tiny magnets that are activated by electric current?

Maybe those gyros will get affected by your magnet, so be careful.

I am not sure, but you should ask Apple.

I have tried a rare earth neodymium magnet around my Iphone 3GS and the only thing I can see that it affects is the compass.... It has no affect on the orientation change, or anything. Although I did read somewhere that people think it had an affect on there battery charge.. I am not sure about this or not...

It only affects the compass on the 3GS. My belt case has a strong magnet on the flip part of the case and been using it for years now.

I did the same thing. There was no change in orientation. It still thinks its a boy so I'd say your safe

A strong magnet will damage the compass only

A strong magnet will damage the compass only

It will not damage the compass, only make it very inaccurate.

.......a.k.a. damaging the compass? lol.

Or do you mean only when the magnet is present and not afterward.

Just recalibrate and it's fine

IMPORTANT: The accuracy of digital compass headings may be negatively affected by magnetic or other environmental interference, including interference caused by the close proximity of the magnets contained in the iPhone earbuds. The digital compass should only be used for basic navigation assistance and should not be solely relied on to determine precise locations, proximity, distance, or direction.

Straight from apple

thought this would be helpful in some way

its a real compass not something digital, well yes it shows on your screen but the compass itself is mechanical and moving..

"Just recalibrate and it's fine" ? well if it gets damaged then you cant just use the "infinity/8" trick to correct it..
