how do you add mp4s to your i phone?

I ripped a dvd and made an mp4 file which can play in windows media player no problem, but itunes is not picking it up? Any suggestions?

I was having the same problem, just dragging into itunes, and nothing would happen at all. I had the '+' icon indicating that it would go into the library,but upon drag and drop, no dice.

I discovered that the file name was too long for the itunes library. The Venuture Brothers Season 2 Episode 1 didn't take, so I renamed the file to something much more succinct and without spaces, and it works great now.
