Cycle power on/off daily

AT&T:
I was having a bad connection problem with AT&T and the tech suppoort guy told me that all of their cell phones should be powered off/on every day to insire a godd connection wiht my local cell tower.

He said by powering off/on that it clears the SIM of cell tower registration data, then the SIM has to re-reister with my nearest cell tower.

Apple
To make a long story short... The Apple Genius at my local store also said cycling the power keeps the phone running faster (like when a compuer or cable modem has been on a long time, like months) and it runs better when you shut it down for a few minutes and power everything back up.

Wow, I wouldn't like that at all. I have a RAZR through Verizon and it has been turned off exactly 1 time in a year of owning it, and that was to put another battery in. I can see turning the iPhone off maybe once a month, but daily? No one is going to do that anyway.

it seems to be helping people with app crashes (e.g. safari, utube, maps) ... but i fully expect apple to fix this

The Tech said to do this with my wife's RAZR too, (her phone was also dropping calls).

I am not addressing cell phones, but I am a believer in recycling computers. I shutdown my personal machines on a daily basis. Sometimes I fall asleep and forget, but that is the exception. At work, I recycle all of my servers weekly, except for the Citrix farm. That recycles each morning at 2AM.

I would not be critical of anyone who does things differently. This works for me and I have fewer issues (seemingly).

Yup i've been with at&t for many years and all the sim-based phones i've had operate much better being shut off daily.

It's not that big of a deal, i've done it for years and have gotten use to it.

Yes, we are talking about completely powering OFF the iPhone (or any other A&T phone).

For the iPhone:

1) Hold down top button till you see Red Slider on the screen "slide to power off"
2) Slide it! :)
3) You can then wait a sec and power it back on.

I'm not sure if you need to wait at all or what a acceptable time period is but i typically wait 30 sec. or if it happens to be at night, I may just leave it off all night while it charges (no need to do THIS though), although then I can tend to forget to turn it back on as soon as I wake up.

I figured this on my own when my iphone slolwed down...but it <i> is </i> a computer, so it makes sense

I turn mine off at night then back on in the morning.I really don't want to get any phone calls on my phone while sleeping.Gives the iPhone a chance to rest too!

Why? It takes only a few seconds and if it corrects problems I will definitely do it daily. It stopped random closing of Safari that I experienced after about 4 days of use.
