Those of you still following Apple's Retail guide (http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/) to iPhone availability may want to know how the retail store algorithm works.

At 9 p.m. every night (local time), the inventory is checked at each Apple Store. Those with less than 10 8GB iPhones are considered to be "out of stock" for the following morning. Therefore. the tool tells us nothing about the status of 4GB iPhones at the Apple Stores.

Beyond this, Apple Stores appear to be getting daily shipments (except Sunday) of new Apple iPhones, so even if your store is listed "out of stock", new iPhones are likely arriving at some point during the following day.

I wish they would let some of the online orders catch up before they stock the stores EVERY DAY! I live on an Island with NO Apple Store and only ONE AT&T store. That AT&T only had about 20 total from what I heard and they have not gotten any others that they admit to.:(

I ordered on Saturday morning on day 2 of sales and mine is not scheduled for shipment for another 6 days. BAH

Any word on whether these phones feature running updates to some of the problems people have been identifying with the initial launch of the iPhone?

Im sure there is no difference in the daily shipments of iPhones to the Apple Stores. I would think Apple has a warehouse where they have these things stockpiled, so they can evenly distribute them to the stores that need them the most.

Does anyone know of a serial number ID code that says what day/week the phones was manufactured? Id like to know how far back these were on the assembly line.
