Considering iDVD, DVD Studio Pro and the QuickTime MPEG2 encoder all REQUIRE G4 processors, putting a DVD-R drive in an iBook isn't terribly useful.

Yes, there is a version of the Bitvice MPEG2 encoder that will run on the G3, but it's slower than Apple's encoder by a 3:1 margin, even running on a G4.

I can't even imagine running the Bitvice encoder on an iBook. "Got a few DAYS to encode this DVD-length MPEG2 file?"

Save your money and buy an older-model PowerBook G4 and get an external Firewire DVD-R burner. Yeah, it'll cost more but it will be worth it.

isn't it true though that most dvd burning software won't work with external dvd burners? That also does not seem time,cost-effective.
