Hi, I just got an airport extreme and am trying to figure out how much my connection improved. I have broadband cable but am confused about connection and download speed.

I've been going to this sight and doing the test:
http://www.speedtest.net/

Using my old router, the download speed was 1822 Kbs

On the new extreme network it is 4860 Kbs.

How do these numbers correlate to the rated transfer speeds of the various wireless standards since they are all listed in Mbps? (for expample 802.11g's top speed = 54Mbps)

Do I divide by 100? is 4860kbs the same as 4.86Mbps?

Mate, there's a lot of sites 'round the place that will tell you the difference between bits and bytes. In real terms, download a large file from a server with a good connection. I use my ISP's server, but Apple will do. This will give you a more accurate and relevant indication of your connection speed.
