Hi, my name is Rower_CPU and I eat hummus... :D
I've been eating more hummus lately and it's mighty tasty. I like it with tortilla chips, and my brother makes some mean Hummus Nachos.

I love it when makes Hummus, especially her Hummus and Falafel pita sandwiches. As far as pre-made brands Tribe of Two Sheiks is good as well as Athenos though it is a bit saltier.

I like hummus too, but I think saying that's it's the second best food might be overstating it a bit.;) I don't think I've tried any store brands before. I or actually my wife makes it. As for recipes, we usually follow the one in the Mossewood cookbook.

last time i checked me and josh both like hummus :)
i prefer athenos, either original or roasted red pepper.
i haven't tried making any yet...i'm thinking about it
i like it with pita bread, red or green bell pepper strips and chips. The only thing i really don't like it with is celery *eew*

To those who make their own hummus: Do you soak your own chick peas or do you use them from a can? I used to make the stuff, but I haven't in a while. I once tried soaking my own beans and cooking them but it didn't turn out so good.
Maybe I'll make some this week. Thanks for the inspiration.

i always soak. canned beans don't do it for me. there's a food co-op near my house in pgh and they sell organic chick peas in bulk. soak overnight, retain 1/3 liquid, continue on.
EDIT- canned beans work in a pinch. they are ready right away, which is nice. i just prefer the consistancy of fresh beans.

Personally I don't care for the taste of hummus.
This would probably be the wrong place for saying I don't like it, but this is the thread about it.
I have had it but I still don't care for it, my mom is totally for it though.

well I've never made my own...but used to date someone whose mother made it occasionally...and she preferred soaking the beans to getting them canned...
swore it had a better flavor...

Yeah, I was introduced to it when I was living in SD. I've never made it myself, I get the stuff in the orange and white can. Good stuff, but it's even worse than Adam's Peanut Butter to mix...

I couldn't tell you the first time I had hummus - it was quite some time ago.
Recently I've found Horseradish Hummus at Trader Joes - damn good stuff :D

Tribe of two shieks garlic hummus is pretty darn good humus for premade stuff...I like to make my own, but I never have the time...

You use chickpeas (usually blended in a blender, but i've heard of people hand mashing them), tahini, some lemon juice, salt, garlic, spices...thats pretty much it...i'm not forgetting anything am i?

My favourite is the lemon flavour hummus, i think it is much better than salsa for dipping crisps (chips in the US).

I love hummus (its got to have some olive oil to be good ie. not dry, IMHO) but damn it gives me death-breath!

I'm also a fan of Humus. Tribe of 2 Sheiks here in Boston makes great soy bean humus. I like all of their flavors as listed. Great with Pitta bread or as a dip!
