Hi, I'm new to the iPod and just bought my wife one for her birthday. Her brother gave her his power adapter that he used on his iPod mini (since the iPod did not come with one). My question is, can you use it to charge the iPod (are the voltage and current specifications the same as the mini)? I want to make sure before damaging the unit or battery.

Yea it's fine. You won't damage anything if you try. It might not be able to charge it if your iPod is too new, since newer ipods don't support firewire charging. But I'm not sure if your charger is firewire or not.
Just try it, and if it works it works.
EDIT: actually the newer iPods support firewire charging just not file transfer. So odds are it works.

I'm pretty sure that all iPods can still charge over firewire, just not take data. Almost positive, actually.
