Are these drives just Seagate drives with less warranty and just rebranded to Maxtor? Since Seagate owns Maxtor, this is what I think it is, but I might be wrong.

It did say on the drive "Manufactured by Seagate". It is a 500GB SATAII drive. Am I in good hands? It was on sale, will be putting it in my Mac Pro

I havent had any problems with my two Maxtor Basic drives (have a 320GB and a 160GB in my windows box).

OTOH if it is a matter of $10 - $15 more to buy a bare Seagate with 5 year warranty, that's a no brainer. There is nothing more valuable than your data.

Then I'd want a drive that the manufacturer believed would last 5 years... click... full circle logic accomplished... resetting post clock to zero... Hello, SDave, my name is HAL. I can sing you a song "Daisy, Daisy... 😛

lol...

No, I already bought the Maxtor, threw away the box so I couldn't return it either way. Was just asking.

It looks EXACTLY like my 400GB SATA seagate drive. It says "Manufactured by Seagate" on it, so it's probably made by seagate.
