Edit SMASH ON DEC 3RD!
Edit 2: Wait, is there no online for Smash?! They talked about online for other games like MARIO KART (hahahahahahahaha! So happy) and Madden, but what about Smash?

I'm happy about the Smash Bros. release date and Mario Kart announcement, but this keynote is seeming like a snooze fest, too.
I'm hoping the Wii Zapper and racing wheel are not like those silly plastic add-ons that the third parties have been selling. Considering the Wii Remote has that port for expansion, they should've just made new controllers that hook up through the port.
E3 looks like it's lost it's excitement after getting shrunk the way it did. Here's to hoping Sony gives us a kick ass Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer.

If you have Flip4Mac, the Gamespot one work quite nicely.
Pretty lackluster, in my opinion. E3 has really lost its touch.
Wii Fit looks good. But the exercises don't really seem that intense. Maybe the should've gotten some fitness guru to help out with making it like they had that doctor for Brain Age.

It's over.
Long story short:
• New zapper add-on (Suggested retail price $19.99)
• Nintendo satisfied with their online offering
• Mario Kart Wii Online (Steering will add-on included)
• Wii Fit (I kinda like the idea)
• Buncha release dates
So far Microsoft's and Nintendo's keynotes were pretty uneventful. Let's see what Sony has in store.

Brain Age didn't benefit that much from the doctor. Honestly, almost all of Brain Age is just traditional cognitive tests put into a "game" setting. Wii Fit uses what's known as a force plate, though I'm assuming a very low level one. A good force plate will cost you thousands :). Still, some of it looks fun.
What made me happy during the Keynote:
Mario Galaxy! (Nov 12th, right?)
Mario Kart Wii! And it's online!
The Zapper!
Zelda: PH looks amazing!
What was mediocre:
Wii Fit. This will be good for a lot of people out there, but considering how much I already do to stay in shape, and that it uses a very toned down piece of hardware that I have in my lab, I'm not horrible impressed. At least not yet.
What was bad:
Smash isn't going to be online??? I don't know if this is true, but I didn't hear anything about smash being online, and they were talking about lots of others that were going to be, makes me think it won't. Can someone confirm this either way??

I have to say i'm surprised that people are disappointed. This is the new "Improved" E3. From what I can seen it's disappointing compared to last year. You have to remember there was all of this buzz with new systems last year, and this year they are all here. Buzz is gone, we only got titles so naturally the buzz is going to be down this year. People are just learning these systems. Next year will be better followed by the year after that. But that's by the new E3 standards, which is... Yeah.... that's all i got to say about that. Thankfully, there is E for All!

SO! Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy this year. I should be hearing the sound of eating hats... Mario Kart in Q1 2008. I still think that's too soon. I hope it's not rushed and another quality MK title.

It would have to be pretty solid to support somebody running on that thing. I can see it more being used for skateboarding/snowboarding games.

Indeed. That is a great lineup.

It could end up in very limited use... ala the Donkey Kong bongos. But I would love it if that thing gets wider support. I could imagine it adding a lot more immersion to games (Especially when used in conjunction with the Wii Remote motions).

Very impressed here; Nintendo did not announce a lot of games, admittedly, but Mario Kart, the fact that ALL previously announced games are actually coming out in 2007 and not next year, and Wii Fit and massive amounts of third party support (100 Wii 140 DS games) made up for it.
Seriously here. People yawning about Wii Fit are idiots. I did too at first, then I tried the thing. It's incredibly accurate; I was sweating after playing Hula Hoops. I did the skiing game and my muscle movements and weight shifts in my feet controlled the turning.
It was really, really good. I want to see a Tony Hawk game using the Balance Board.
Yawn....better than MS though. I thought Reggie was going to explode on the "online" thing but once again we are in the dark.
Wow. You of all people. Reggie was practically TALKING TO YOU. He said he's seen people complaining about Nintendo not taking online seriously, and asking when they would. He said, "What if we had and you didn't know?" Then he started showing off a series of third party online games.
Third. Party. Online.
You just put up an entire thread complaining about how Nintendo wasn't giving out third party online dev kits and they've just been doing it in secret. He listed off like five or six third party online games including Guitar Hero III which is coming out in like 2-3 months and Madden 08.

Wii Fit is mine for sure. It looks absolutely fantastic - they are going to sell a gazillion of these. I'd also lay money on seeing them equipped in many, many hospitals as a rehabilitation/physiotherapy device. Skiing/snowboarding and skateboarding games = awesome.
From that BMI graph it looks like they've taken some cues of the functionality like the Nike+ ipod. Did they have the ability to set goals and compete online against other people - i.e. X number of pushups per month etc? I should probably read some more about it.....

Wii Fit sounds great. I know people who will be happy, the main reason they bought the wii & wii sports was for some easy excerise, so this will be ideal.
However just wondering......
Nov 12 - Mario Galaxy
Dec 3 - Smash Bros
Are these USA release dates.... I'd be concerned that Europe may be left waiting yet again. After all we dont even have Super Paper Mario until the end of September.... :(:(
My prophecy of no Mario Galaxy till 2008 could still come true for Europe.

As a fellow PAL I think we'll be OK. Nintendo will be trying to hit up chrissy big time, and there's no better way than a big title like Mario Galaxy (or smash bros) to appeal. We can't be left in the cold this time!

DS:
Picross DS™ - July 30
Brain Age™ 2: More Training in Minutes a Day - August 20
DK™ Jungle Climber - September 10
The Legend of Zelda®: Phantom Hourglass - October 1
Chibi-Robo™: Park Patrol - October 2
Flash Focus™: Vision Training in Minutes a Day - October 15
Mario Party® DS - November 19
Nintendo Magic (name not final) - November 26
Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ - December 3
Nintendo® Crossword (name not final) - TBA
Have fun with Picross and Nintendo Magic (if it's what I think it is)! There maybe a reason they are selling for $5.50 a piece. At least with Nintendo Magic you get a deck of cards.
The Vision Training game isn't too bad but gets boring after about a week.

It's a start.
Now get rid of the codes and I'll be more impressed. :p

I caught that earlier (if it's the same walkthrough vid). I hope it's an insanely massive game, looks like it's quite non-linear.
I had an idea a while ago, where if a player did well on a level they would ascend up to a harder level. But that requires so many levels, though does open up a lot of replayability. I'd love to see that in action in a well designed game like Mario Galaxy.
edit: okay. I just caught the Mario Kart Wii announcement video. Online battle mode. oh. yes. That is all MKDS was missing.

Q4 is that Fiscal Quarter or Calender Year ? Remember if it's Fiscal Quarter it could be up-to March 2008.
I'm still not going to get my hopes up.
And no Wii Fitness to 2008 ? OMG..... That sucks major ASS!!!
That means people who have been waiting for another Wii Sports style game have had to wait upto 18 months between titles. That's a pile of crap. Nintendo want to appeal to non-gamers and came out of the starting grid racing with Wii Sports and yet now where are we ? 2008 is an utter joke.
For casual/non gamers it seems the Wii = The new sandwich toaster
Everyone has one, but the majority are in the cupboard doing sweet FA.
Nintendo and non / casual gaming audience is the biggest joke in history. The only people who think that kind of time frame between titles is exceptable is Nintendo fanboys, and I'm sorry but your not the audience they were meant to appeal to.

Dude. I dont see how anyone is worried if there is online in Brawl. Do you think with Nintendo making Madden, Fifa, and other 3rd party games online that they will drop one of the biggest titles that has absolute need for online?
Metroid dropped it because Metroid is not an online kind of game. Brawl will defenetly have it. No doubt at all.

Well it's kind of different for a fighter, especially one like Smash. The simplest delay will greatly affect the gameplay. I think Nintendo does want to add the online otion, but due to contraints, they are keeping it underwraps until they are sure of the online abilities.
But I would agree online play for Smash would be absolutely amazing. Competion would be awesome.

I hope you're right but I still think a fighting game where constant hits are critical makes or breaks a game would really suck. In a racing or sport game, it's more.... bearable, I guess that's what I'm trying to get at.

What are you talking about? Nintendo said it would be online at E3 2005 when they announced it was in development. They repeated it at E3 2006. They said it AGAIN a few months ago. I think I saw an interview with Reggie and was asked. He said no comment... O don't remember a confirmation. If they did say that in 2005, I'm sure that has changed since then, otherwise they would of made note of it like they did with Mario Kart, and that's not even coming out this year.

I've seen 3 confirmations, one in 2005 (the Smash Bros announcement said it would be the big game to take the Revolution online, Iwata said it on stage), one in 2006 (TGS was it? or E3?) and one web page post.

damn final exams didn't really get to follow it like i wanted:
wii fit: looks intresting but if it can have a huge impact depends on the reception and the amount of stuff which can be done with the board
for other games like skateboarding or snowboarding/ surfing it seems obvious but we have to wait what they can make out of it
mii showing of channel: quite a basic thing.. a DS demo channel would have been much nicer
mario kart wii online: mario kart DS led to a DS sales explosion, and the same can happen with the wii
lack of game trailers shown at presser but instead showing them afterwards: can you please do away with that ? it's seriously annoying
side note: dragon quest swords just launched in japan with 200k on the first day and on the way of selling out of it's planned 350k stock, so you can bet on it that TGS will bring some square enix announcments for the wii

Care to give a link then? The official web site doesn't mention it, the wikipedia article doesn't link to anything and GAf knows nothing of any announcement. I'd love to see it. The fact that Nintendo used part of their conference to outline online games and included games out next year is a pretty good indication.

Care to give a link then?
Here's one (http://wii.ign.com/articles/707/707504p1.html)
Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. "My plan is to include Wi-Fi connection compatibility and online functionality. One of the primary reasons Super Smash Bros. Brawl was created was that Nintendo, when taking Wii online, wanted to have Smash Bros. to do that," added Sakurai.
And another (http://www.nwiizone.com/nintendo-wii/nwii/smash-bros-brawl-confirmed-online/)
July 3, 2007 - Nintendo of America said on Monday that its hotly anticipated new Wii fighter, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will not be playable at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2007. According to representatives for the subsidiary contacted by IGN, Nintendo has chosen not to display the game in playable form because it has a wealth of other products to show, including some surprises. This, however, does not mean that a formally playable Brawl will not be unveiled in the near future - perhaps shortly after E3 - at a separate event.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl was originally set to release at Wii launch, but was delayed to 2007 in order to give the team working on it more development time. The game features a huge cast of mascot fighters, a great many recognizable background stages and more musical compositions from famous videogame composers than any other videogame in existence. In addition, gamers will be able to choose their favorite fighter and battle online against friends.

Why does everything have to be "revolutionary"? I'm so sick of that term on tech boards. Its such a lame argument to knock something for "not being revolutionary".
