Currently I have this 160gb 3.5" Maxtor 7200rpm Diamond Max HD in an enclosure from OWC. I want to get rid of it so I can put a 500gb drive in my enclosure. (I might have a problem transfering the data off it to the new one though, it being the biggest HD I own, with nothing to copy it to)
What do you think I could get for this drive? I was going to put it in my parents G4 Quicksilver Tower, but it had to be formated as only 128gb since that computer can't take more than that in one drive bay. That seemed like a bit of a waste, so I am considering selling it instead. Does anyone need a 160gb drive anymore, It would be great for older machines that aren't *too* old, or in an eclosure the way I have used it.
I thought it had 16mb cache, but I didn't see a 160gb maxtor with a 16mb cache in my quick online search, so it may only have 8mb cache.

drives like this are worth around the 50.00$ mark used.

Considering you can get a brand new 160GB for $48 or so, I doubt it. I'd say you might be able to do $30, maybe $35 shipped and get a buyer.

I looks like I could get around 30-50 on ebay, so If I can get that amount on here, I would be pleased!
Well, while this is a feeler, are a maxtor 80gb 7200 or IBM 40gb 5400 (came in G4 Tower from apple) worth much?

I'll give you $25 shipped for the 160gb, $15 shipped for the 80gb, or $8 shipped for the 40gb. Many ebayers are charging $5 shipping, which seems about right. If it is worth it to you, let me know ASAP, before I spend that money.

Actually, with more research, I have found that I will need a new enclosure as well if I get an ATA or SATA HD, so consider the OWC Mercury Elite FireWire 35" with Oxford 911 chipset up for offers as well (was $65 in 11/05). I guess I will need to start a for sale thread, or take all this to ebay.

You mean a total of $48 for all three drives shipped? Sorry, I can't do that. I have to keep either the 160gb or both of the smaller drives. I want to see if I can sell to 40gb + 80gb for a comparable price to what I could get for the 160gb. Also, Now I have to get rid of my enclosure as well, so I might part that out with one of these drives pre-installed for someone.

Good luck.. I currently sell that harddrive (160gb Diamondmax 7200 rpm) for 64.52 to a major e-tailer. I would think 30-35 max you could get out of it.
Good luck though :)

I have a deal on the drive for $30 shipped, pending receiving the payment from 1dterbeest. Once I get the payment, I will ship (hopefully tomorrow if I get the money before the post office closes).
